Bangkok with Kids
A 3-Day Plan That Won't Wear You Out

Taking the kids around Bangkok and keeping the whole family happy doesn't mean walking until everyone drops. The trick is to pick one big highlight per day, then leave room for breaks, naps and proper meals. This plan rounds up the places kids actually love — from the drive-through animal park at Safari World to the glass tunnel at SEA LIFE under Siam Paragon, plus a hands-on children's museum where they can touch everything. We checked the latest ticket prices and closing days for you, because several spots close on Mondays — show up on the wrong day and you've wasted the trip.

Bangkok with Kids A 3-Day Plan That Won't Wear You Out

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

Bangkok is easier with kids than you'd think, because most of what they love clusters into two areas: the Siam area (SEA LIFE under Paragon, reachable on foot via the BTS) and the Chatuchak area (the children's museum, butterfly garden and a big park, all next to each other). The highlights that need a drive out of town — Safari World and Khao Kheow Open Zoo — make more sense as their own full days.

The mistake people make most often: several places close on Mondays, including Safari World, the children's museum and the butterfly garden. If your trip straddles a Monday, make that your hotel-rest day — pool time or a mall walk instead.

Family highlights kids actually love (ordered by best age fit)

Before the day-by-day plan, here are the places we think are most worth the trip for a family, roughly ordered by popularity and how well they suit a child's age. Ticket prices are approximate for 2026 — booking online in advance is usually cheaper than at the gate.

1

Safari World

Ram Inthra Rd, Khan Na Yao district · open 9:00–17:00 (closed Mondays) · ~45 min drive from central Bangkok

Two open-zoo parks in one place. You drive through the Safari Park to see giraffes, zebras, lions and tigers up close, then move on to the Marine Park with its dolphin, sea lion and bird shows. Kids from toddlers to teens love it, and it's on almost every family's Bangkok list.

ZooAll agesFull day
Adult ~฿1,100–1,600 (both parks) · cheaper booked online
2

SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World

Floor B, Siam Paragon · BTS Siam · open daily ~10:00–20:00

An aquarium beneath Siam Paragon, with a glass tunnel you walk under sharks and rays. Kids get a kick out of the penguins and the touch pool with starfish. The big draw is the central location — walkable from BTS Siam, no trip out of town — and it's an easy day even when it rains, since it's all indoors.

Child from ~฿799 online (~฿1,199 at the door) · adult slightly higher
3

Bangkok Children's Discovery Museum (Chatuchak)

Kamphaeng Phet 4 Rd, Chatuchak · MRT Chatuchak Park / BTS Mo Chit, 5-min walk · open 10:00–16:00 (closed Mondays)

A children's museum where everything is hands-on, with science, human-body and nature zones plus an outdoor water-and-sand play area. Best for ages 3–12. The great part: entry is free — you just register with an ID card or passport at the door.

4

Dream World + Snow Town

Pathum Thani · ~45–60 min drive from central Bangkok · open daily

A theme park out in Pathum Thani, with rides ranging from gentle ones for little kids to roller coasters for teens. There's a parade, the sub-zero Snow Town zone for a snowball fight, and a water-play area. Good for families with kids of different ages.

5

Bangkok Butterfly Garden & Insectarium (Chatuchak)

Queen Sirikit Park, Chatuchak · open 8:30–16:30 (closed Mondays)

A butterfly dome inside Queen Sirikit Park, right next to Chatuchak Park, where you walk among butterflies flitting around waterfalls and greenery. It's quick to see, which makes it a good add-on after the children's museum in the same area — and it's free too.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo (Chonburi · day trip)

Si Racha district, Chonburi · ~1.5–2 hr drive from Bangkok

A large open zoo that took in many animals from the former Dusit Zoo. There are zones where you can feed giraffes and hippos, so kids get closer to the animals than they would in the city. It's in Chonburi, best done as a day trip if your family has a car or rents one.

An honest note

Dusit Zoo (Khao Din), the name many people remember, has closed for good — since 2018, with its animals relocated. The same goes for KidZania and Funarium, which both shut during the pandemic. If you come across old guides recommending those two, just skip them. This plan only includes places we've confirmed are still open in 2026.

The 3-day plan — one big highlight per day

The idea: head out early before the sun gets harsh, hit the big highlight in the late morning, take a long lunch break so the kids can nap, then wrap up with something low-key near the hotel in the evening. Adjust the timing to your kids' ages — with very young children, cut the evening activity and head back to rest instead.

Day 1

Safari World, full day

8:00
Leave the hotel earlySafari World is out of town and traffic builds up mid-morning, so an early start gets you there in time for the animals' active hours.
9:00
Drive through Safari ParkNo car of your own? The park runs its own bus tours. Kids get to see giraffes, zebras and lions up close.
11:00
On to Marine Park for the showsCheck the dolphin and sea lion show times at the entrance and plan your walk around them.
12:30
Lunch break inside the parkThere are restaurants and a buffet on site — a chance for little ones to sit and get out of the sun.
14:00
See the rest of the animals + feedingAfternoon sun is strong, so pick shadier zones. Bring hats and plenty of water.
16:00
Back to the hotel to restThe kids will be tired today. Head back for an afternoon nap or some hotel pool time.
Day 2

Siam area — SEA LIFE + air-conditioned malls

10:00
Take the BTS to Siam stationNo rush today — it's a city day, mostly indoors, and a good option if it's raining.
10:30
Visit SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean WorldIt's in the basement of Siam Paragon. Walk through the fish tunnel, see the penguins and the starfish touch pool.
12:30
Lunch at Paragon / Siam CenterPlenty of food courts and restaurants with kids' menus — grab an air-conditioned seat.
14:00
Browse the mall / kids nap at the hotelWith little ones, head back for a nap now and come out again in the evening.
16:00
Lumpini Park for an evening strollTake the MRT to Silom/Lumphini. It's a big park where kids can run around, with monitor lizards to spot and paddle boats, and a cool breeze in the evening.
18:00
Dinner near the hotelEnd the day easy, without walking far — save energy for tomorrow.
Day 3

Chatuchak area — children's museum + butterfly garden

10:00
MRT to Chatuchak Park / BTS Mo ChitThe children's museum opens at 10:00. Go at opening while it's still quiet so the kids get free run of it.
10:15
Bangkok Children's Discovery MuseumFree entry, register at the door. Kids can spend an hour on the science zone and the sand-and-water play area.
12:00
LunchThere are lots of eateries around Chatuchak, or head into a mall near Mo Chit for an air-conditioned seat.
13:30
Butterfly garden & insectarium (next to Chatuchak Park)Free entry, doesn't take long — walk among the butterflies in the dome and snap some nice photos.
14:30
Stroll Chatuchak Park / Railway ParkThe big parks are right next to each other. You can rent bikes — older kids love it — and there's plenty of open space to run.
16:00
Back to the hotel, pack upIf you've still got energy and it's a weekend, swing by Chatuchak Weekend Market for souvenirs before heading back.

If your trip straddles a Monday

Reorder the days however you like, but don't put Safari World, the children's museum or the butterfly garden on a Monday — they're all closed. Make Monday your Siam day instead (SEA LIFE is open daily), or a hotel-pool / mall day.

Extra options if you have more than 3 days

Day trip

Khao Kheow Open Zoo

A day trip out to Chonburi where kids can feed giraffes and hippos up close — worth it if you have a car. Leave early, back by evening.

Older kids

Dream World + Snow Town

A Pathum Thani theme park with rides, a parade and a sub-zero snow zone. Best for older kids and teens, and easily a full day.

Low-key

Chao Phraya river cruise

Kids love being on the water watching the riverside go by. Take the budget-friendly Chao Phraya Express Boat, or an evening dinner cruise.

Tips for surviving Bangkok with kids

  • Book tickets online in advance — for Safari World, SEA LIFE and Dream World, online tickets are usually cheaper than at the gate and let you skip the ticket queue.
  • Check the closing days — several places close on Mondays, so note it before you lock in each day.
  • Dodge the midday heat — Bangkok is hot, so plan indoor activities or a hotel break from 13:00–15:00 and head out again in the evening.
  • Pack the essentials — hats, drinking water, cooling towels, snacks, and a light jacket if you're going into Snow Town or a heavily air-conditioned mall.
  • Rely on the trains in the city — BTS/MRT skip most of the traffic, and young kids usually ride free or at a discount. Save taxis or a rental car for the out-of-town spots.

FAQ

Where's the best place to take kids in Bangkok?

If you can only pick one, Safari World gives you the most — an open zoo and a marine show in a single day. But if you'd rather stay in the city, SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World under Siam Paragon is easy to reach by BTS and works even when it rains. And the Bangkok Children's Discovery Museum at Chatuchak is free, with plenty to keep kids busy for a while.

Is Dusit Zoo (Khao Din) still open?

It closed permanently in 2018 and its animals were moved to other zoos. If you want the same kind of zoo experience with the kids, the closest option to Bangkok is Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi, which works as a day trip.

Which kids' attractions in Bangkok close on Mondays?

Safari World, the Bangkok Children's Discovery Museum, and the Butterfly Garden & Insectarium at Chatuchak all close on Mondays. SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World and Dream World are open daily, so save Mondays for those two or make it a rest day.

Roughly how much are tickets for kids' attractions in Bangkok?

Approximate 2026 prices: Safari World is around ฿1,100–1,600 for an adult (both parks); SEA LIFE starts around ฿799 for a child booked online (about ฿1,199 at the door); Dream World's unlimited-ride pass runs about ฿900–1,200. The children's museum and butterfly garden are free. Booking online in advance is recommended, since it's usually cheaper than at the gate.

How should I plan Bangkok with very young kids?

Stick to one big highlight per day, leave time for a midday nap at the hotel, and pick places that are indoors or close to the train to avoid the heat and traffic — like SEA LIFE and Lumpini Park in the evening. For out-of-town spots like Safari World, go early and come back to rest in the afternoon.
