First time in Thailand — where do you start?
Start by choosing coast or mountains, then pick the town. With three days and two nights the easiest bases are Krabi (Andaman beaches, a 1 hour 20 minute flight from Bangkok, four-island boat trips and inland nature), Chiang Mai (old town, Doi Suthep, cafés) and Bangkok itself (temples, markets, and a train to almost everything). All three have a day-by-day plan on this site and individual hotel reviews behind every stay. The Andaman coast is driest from November to April; the Gulf coast keeps its rain later, so it still works through September.
