FAQ

Which province is best for Michelin eating in Thailand?

Bangkok wins by a mile. It holds 39 starred restaurants (two three-star, eight two-star, 29 one-star) plus 32 Bib Gourmands, for 190 listings in total. From the three-star Sorn down to cheap-and-brilliant street stalls, every tier of the guide lives in one city.

Outside Bangkok, where should I eat?

Phuket ranks second with 19 Bib Gourmands and one-star Pru, 60 listings in all, strong on southern Thai food and seafood. Chiang Mai is third with 18 Bibs led by CHAWEE, ideal if you love northern Thai cooking and great value plates.

Which small province over-delivers?

Nonthaburi is the underdog. With just 11 listings it still holds two stars from Akkee, lifting it to fourth place. Phang-Nga also cracks the top six thanks to one-star Aulis. Both show how much weight a single star carries in the ranking.

What about Khon Kaen and the northeast?

Khon Kaen is Isan's Michelin capital, fifth overall with 11 Bib Gourmands led by Baan Heng. No stars yet, but it's a home base for regional and Thai-Chinese food at friendly prices, with Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani following close behind for Bib hunting.

How did we rank the provinces?

We weighted each distinction: three-star counts 100, two-star 50, one-star 25, Bib Gourmand 6 and Selected 1, then totaled the score per province. This rewards provinces with stars, while Bib-rich places like Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen still climb the board.
