Highlights and sights around Phetchaburi — nature, city and culture
Phra Nakhon Khiri (Khao Wang)
A hilltop palace in the middle of town from the reign of King Rama IV, with royal halls, a chedi, and an observatory. Take the funicular or walk up — the top has views across the whole city.
Phetchaburi craftsman temples
Phetchaburi is known for its stucco artisans and painters. Old temples like Wat Yai Suwannaram, Wat Mahathat Worawihan, and Wat Ko Kaeo Suttharam still keep their stucco work and wall paintings.
Phetchaburi sweets
The province's most famous treat — mor kaeng custard, thong yip, thong yot, foi thong, and khao niao tat — all made from palm sugar tapped from trees lined along the rice fields.
Cha-am
A long sandy beach where people have come to swim and unwind for years, with hotels and seafood restaurants along the shore. You can ride horses and float on inner tubes — beach life close to Bangkok.
Kaeng Krachan National Park
A vast forest along the Tenasserim Range on the Myanmar border, with a reservoir, waterfalls, the mist viewpoint at Phanoen Thung, and trails for birding and wildlife watching.
Phra Ram Ratchaniwet (Ban Puen Palace)
A European-style palace on the Phetchaburi River from the reign of King Rama V, built in German brickwork. You can walk around the architecture and the palace gardens.

Phetchaburi's signature food — real local spots, rounded up and ranked
Mor kaeng custard and palm-sugar sweets
The town's signature gift to take home — mor kaeng baked custard with taro, lotus seeds, and beans topped with fried shallots, sold all along the Khao Wang area, plus thong yip, thong yot, and foi thong.
Khao chae Phetchaburi
Rice in chilled flower-scented water eaten with side dishes like fried shrimp-paste balls, stuffed sweet peppers, and fried shallots — a hot-season dish made in Phetchaburi for a long time.
Noodles and curry-rice in the old town
The market district by the Phetchaburi River has noodle shops, curry-rice stalls, and several long-running old eateries — good for an early-morning bite between temple visits.
Seafood at Cha-am and Ban Laem
The Ban Laem and Cha-am coast has fresh shrimp, shellfish, crab, and fish. Beachside places do grilled shrimp, crab stir-fried in curry powder, and sea fish to eat right by the water.
Mackerel and dried seafood
Ban Laem is a source of Gulf of Thailand mackerel and dried seafood — salted fish, steamed mackerel, and shrimp paste to buy and take home.
Khanom jeen, tod man, and local dishes
Around Phetchaburi's markets you'll find khanom jeen rice noodles, tod man fish cakes, and local snacks made with bold regional chili pastes and curry blends.
Cafes in the old town by the Phetchaburi River
The old-town area has cafes in wooden houses and shophouses along the river — an easy spot to sip coffee and take in the town and the bridges over the water.
Fresh palm sugar and roadside sweets
Phetchaburi's fields are full of toddy palms, so there's fresh palm sugar, palm fruit in coconut milk, and palm cake sold along the road by season.
