If you want cocktails inside a century-old mansion in the heart of Sathorn, Bar Sathorn is a room you cannot find anywhere else in Bangkok. It landed at No. 48 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025, the first Marriott Bonvoy bar in Thailand ever to make the list. The setting is The House on Sathorn, a mansion built in 1889 that has been a private residence, a luxury hotel and the Russian Embassy before design studio AvroKO restored it and folded it into the grounds of W Bangkok. High ceilings, old woodwork and warm lamplight mean every glass you lift carries a bit of the building's history with it.

The bar program is run by Marco Dognini, a bartender who has worked five-star hotels and cocktail lounges around the world. He built the 16 signature cocktails as a walk through the four eras of the house, from the early History of Sathorn to the Hotel Royal years when Madame Staro turned the residence into a grand hotel. The drinks people keep talking about include the Siam Royal, where cognac meets kaffir lime and Thai basil bitters, the L&L Martini with its longan and lychee cordial, and the Ambassador's Favourite, a bourbon-and-cognac pour scented with Thai flower essence. Classic drinkers should order the agave-and-bacon Bloody Mary, chilled with a whole frozen tomato for a savoury bite you won't get elsewhere.

The mood is a proper mansion bar, relaxed but polished, and it works just as well for a date as for a celebratory round with close friends. Getting there is easy: ride the BTS to Chong Nonsi, then walk into the W Bangkok grounds on North Sathorn Road. Prices per glass sit at the premium end you would expect from a hotel-and-heritage bar, so it pays to book ahead, especially on Friday and Saturday nights now that the Asia's 50 Best nod has brought a bigger crowd through the door.
