Before the list, one thing to know: most Ping riverside restaurants cluster on two sides — along Charoenrat Road (the Wat Ket side) and along Charoenprathet Road and Pa Tan. They're a short walk apart along the river. Late afternoon, near sunset, is the golden hour for the view. For the popular spots and fine-dining rooms, book a riverside table ahead — tables right on the water are limited and they fill up fast.
The 10 Ping River Restaurants We Picked
Ordered from special-occasion atmosphere down to easy, laid-back tables — not by which is tastier, since each one suits a different kind of evening.
Le Crystal Restaurant
A French restaurant on the Ping that's been here over 20 years and has won Tatler Dining's best-French award several times. You sit on a riverside garden terrace with a live jazz trio most nights. This is the one for a proposal or a full-on celebration.
Oxygen Dining Room (Cross Chiang Mai Riverside)
The glasshouse dining room at the Cross Riverside hotel, with full views over the Ping. It has held a Michelin star, with beautifully plated dishes and good ingredients. Good for a romantic meal or a dinner where you want quiet and care.
Paak Dang Riverside Dining
A two-storey Lanna-style teak house on the water that has earned a Michelin Plate. The Thai food is serious — crab in curry powder, duck curry with lychee, grilled river prawns. At night it's lit up nicely, and it's a business that hires young people from the surrounding community.
The Service 1921 (Anantara Chiang Mai)
A dining room set in the old British Consulate building from 1921, inside the Anantara on the Ping. The steakhouse zone and the Korean–Chinese–Thai rooms are split by a spy theme into separate spaces. The mood is classic and upscale — good for a celebration that calls for a touch of formality.
Deck1 (Deck One)
A smart-casual riverside spot in the Wat Ket community, with a giant rain tree by the terrace. There's both an indoor zone and open-air seating, serving Thai and fusion, plus khao soi at lunch. Works for a relaxed dinner or a long sit.
The Riverside Bar & Restaurant
A Ping River institution open since 1984, with a wooden deck right on the water and live music every night. The standout is a dinner boat that cruises past temples and old riverside houses for around 75 minutes — good if you want the experience of eating on the water.
The Good View Bar & Restaurant
A big riverside spot open since 1996, with two live bands trading sets every night. The menu is broad — Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Western — and you can sit on the riverside lawn or under the wooden house. Good for a group of friends or a larger gathering.
PoonPoon (formerly WOO Cafe)
A spot on Charoenrat Road near Wat Ket. In late 2025 it was renovated and renamed from WOO Cafe to PoonPoon, but the pretty styling and the quality are close to what they were. Good for photos, a coffee, or a light lunch.
Cross Chiang Mai Riverside (hotel dining)
If you don't want to commit to the full Oxygen experience, the Cross hotel's general bar and dining areas still sit you by the river for a lighter spend. Good for a drink while you watch the sunset before dinner.
Riverside Seafood (Terrace Seafood)
For seafood lovers, there's a Ping riverside seafood restaurant with both air-conditioned and open-air seating right on the water, looking out over a wide stretch of river. Good for a family meal where you want prawns, clams, crab and fish without dressing up.
Tips for booking a riverside table
Tables right on the water are scarce, especially at Le Crystal, Paak Dang and Oxygen. Call or message to book at least 1–2 days ahead and specify a riverside table. Over long weekends and during the Loy Krathong–Yi Peng festival, book a week or more in advance.
Want to taste deeper? Try a Chiang Mai food tour or cooking class
Half a day with a local who knows the lanes — or cooking a dish yourself — teaches you more than just eating. Book ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide.
How to Pick the Right Spot for the Occasion
Proposal / anniversary
Le Crystal or Oxygen — set menus, live music, a private riverside table. Book ahead and let them know it's a special occasion.
Birthday / family meal
Paak Dang or The Service 1921 — serious food, an upscale but warm atmosphere, plenty of room for a big table.
Chilling / drinks with friends
The Good View, The Riverside or Deck1 — live music, a wide drinks list, and room to settle in for a long while.
A Half-Day of Eating Along the Ping
If you've got an afternoon-to-evening window, try planning a walk along the Wat Ket–Charoenrat side like this. It's a short stroll, but you get coffee, sunset and a riverside dinner all in one outing.

What to Know Before You Go
- Rainy season (Jun–Oct) — riverside terraces may close on some days if it's raining or the river rises. Call to check first.
- Parking — Charoenrat Road is narrow and hard to park on in the evening. Many people take a Grab and get dropped at the door.
- Riverside mosquitoes — open-air areas can have a few mosquitoes in the evening. Pack repellent for peace of mind.
- Prices — the figures on this page are rough per-person costs and can change with the dishes and drinks you order.
