A Chonburi food trip is easy because you don't need a complicated plan. Nong Mon, Bang Saen, and Ang Sila are all close together, just a few minutes' drive apart. This plan starts at the morning market in Nong Mon, moves on to a beachfront seafood lunch, then a cafe in the afternoon. Day two covers Ang Sila and some souvenirs before heading home. It works for both day-trippers and people staying overnight.
Day One — Nong Mon, Bang Saen Seafood, Afternoon Cafe
Nong Mon Market → Beachfront seafood → Seaside cafe
Tip
Nong Mon Market opens before dawn and runs late, but the popular souvenirs like the famous khao lam tend to sell out by late afternoon. If you have your heart set on a particular stall, go mid-morning to find more in stock.
Book the activities in your Chonburi trip ahead
Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want — prices and availability are shown live on each site.
Day Two — Ang Sila, Morning Market, Souvenirs for the Road
Ang Sila → Local eats → Souvenir run before home
The Food Spots We Recommend in This Plan
We picked places that are genuinely open and have a steady stream of reviews, sorted by the type of food in the trip. Prices are rough ranges, so double-check with the restaurant since seafood prices rise and fall with size and season.
Mae Khai Thunklao Khao Lam (Nong Mon Market)
A long-running khao lam stall with a Michelin Bib Gourmand nod. The sticky rice is soft and fragrant with coconut, and comes with both Thai custard and black-bean fillings. An easy souvenir to bring home.
Mae Wanna Crab Cakes (Nong Mon Market)
The original crab-cake maker, packed with crab meat, going over 40 years. Crisp outside and soft inside, eaten with plum dipping sauce. You can also buy them raw to fry at home.
Kor Kung Bang Saen
A seafood spot known for freshness, with prawn and crab tanks to choose from and bold flavors. The popular orders are grilled prawns and crab stir-fried in curry powder. Busy on weekends.
Pakarang Ruan Nam Bang Saen
A waterfront seafood restaurant with a nice setting and a breeze. The menu covers it all, boiled, stir-fried, fried, and steamed. Good for coming as a family.
Krua Pa Mai Ang Sila
Waterfront seafood in the Ang Sila area, fresh and friendly on the wallet, with a terrace to catch the breeze. A good day-two lunch before heading home.
Krua Khao Hom Seafood, Tai Hat Won
A homey waterfront seafood place. The standout dishes are stir-fried squid with egg in black sauce and garlic-fried prawns, the kind of home cooking Chonburi locals love.
Casa Tropika Bang Saen
A tropical beachfront cafe with both air-conditioned and open-air seating to catch the sea breeze. A spot to sip coffee and watch the sunset for ages.
Aloha Beach Cafe Bang Saen
A beach-style cafe right on the sand with photo corners by the water and a choice of drinks and bakery. Good for an afternoon break after a heavy meal.
TO DIE FOR COFFEE Khao Sam Muk
A cafe up on Khao Sam Muk with a wide view down over Bang Saen's sea. It's just a short drive up, great for anyone who loves a high vantage and photo angles.
Agaligo Coffee Bang Saen
A sweetly decorated coffee shop in the Bang Saen area with a chill vibe. Good for sitting and working or just a change of scene from the beachfront.
Rough Budget
For a 2-day, 1-night trip per person, food across the whole trip runs about ฿1,000–1,800 (two seafood meals, cafes, and some souvenirs), plus a hotel at roughly ฿800–2,500 per night depending on the level. Fuel for the Bangkok round trip is about ฿600–900.
How to Get There and Pace the Days
- Driving is the easiest — Motorway 7 from Bangkok to Bang Saen takes just over an hour, with easy parking at Nong Mon, Bang Saen, and Ang Sila.
- No car? Still doable — minivans/coaches from Ekkamai or Mo Chit run to Chonburi–Bang Saen, then use songthaews or taxis locally. Agree the fare before you get in.
- Beat the traffic — leave Bangkok before 9am, and on the way back avoid Sunday evening.
- Get the most out of seafood — order several dishes to share, and ask the price per kilo before ordering anything sold by weight. It keeps the budget under control.
