If you're into coffee, Khon Kaen will probably surprise you. The city has in-house roasters who take their beans seriously, specialty bars running several single origins, and bakeries pulling fresh croissants out of the oven every morning. The handy part is that most of them cluster in the city centre, a short drive or ride-hail apart, so you can cafe hop comfortably in a single day. We split it across 2 days anyway, so you can take your time and actually sit and enjoy each one instead of rushing.
Khon Kaen cafes we'd start with
These are the spots locals bring up the most, and they're all still open. We've ordered them by where we'd start if your time is tight, but each one has its own vibe — drop any of them into whichever day suits you. Prices are a rough range per person and can shift depending on what you order.
Trinity Café
Khon Kaen's best-known croissant shop, run by siblings who are serious about French pastry. Buttery, fragrant croissants — crisp outside, soft inside — in plain, almond and Ispahan, plus canelés and kouign-amann. Mornings get busy and things sell out fast, so coming early pays off.
Godfather Coffee
An in-house roaster done dark-loft style — bare concrete, raw steel, the kind of moody space that's hard to find in town. The draw is their own roasted beans and several single origins, plus a signature drink like the Black Rose. It's near the train station and good for a long work session.
Lecithin Specialty Coffee
A proper specialty bar — well-chosen beans, careful brewing, and each drink with its own character. The space is modern but warm, and it sits near Khon Kaen University, so it suits anyone who wants to actually talk coffee with the barista.
From Scratch bakeshop & cafe
A handmade-bakery spot known for cream-cheese bagels and soft cookies, with a wide drinks list spanning coffee, milk tea, matcha and soda. It's across from Srinagarind Hospital and easy to find — good for breakfast or an afternoon snack.
maco.kkc
A newer, design-led cafe that stands out from the storefront in. There's an outdoor zone with a backyard feel — minimalist stone chairs out on the lawn — so it's a nice one for photos and a relaxed sit in town.
Mali Cakery
Homemade cakes decorated with fresh flowers that look almost like artwork, with options like an Earl Grey Lavender cake and a young-coconut cake. One for dessert lovers who want both the taste and the photo.
Coffee In Town
A small, quiet spot with raw concrete-and-brick decor and enough parking. They do coffee, tea and bakery — a good place to sit quietly, read or get some solo work done.
Uniq cafe
An in-town cafe leaning toward sweets and drinks, with fruit yoghurt, a comfortable atmosphere and free Wi-Fi. A handy afternoon break between the other stops.
How to order your stops
Croissants and bakery items sell out fast, so put the baking spots in the morning and save the in-house roasters and specialty bars — where you can linger — for late morning and afternoon. That way you don't miss the good stuff and you're not rushing your coffee.

Local eats to slot between the cafes
A full day of coffee needs some savoury breaks. Khon Kaen is an Isan town with serious food, so just slot these meals into the plan — most are right in the city centre and easy to find.
- Som tam & grilled chicken — the lunch that fits this town best, properly bold flavours, with well-known shops all over the city
- Mu kratha / jim jum — the dinner locals gather over, a relaxed way to close out the day
- Noodles behind campus — affordable student spots, a quick fill-up between cafes
- Sticky rice & fried snacks at the morning market — a nibble before you start the coffee run
Getting around
Most spots are in the city centre and the area behind the university. Driving yourself is easiest, since parking is simpler than in a big city. If you're not driving, ride-hailing apps work in town, but waits can be longer once you head out of the centre — keeping nearby cafes back to back will save you time.
Straight talk before you go
Khon Kaen cafes open, close and relocate fairly often, especially the newer ones. Before you head out, double-check each place's page or Google for opening hours and rest days. Some croissants and cakes are made in limited numbers each day, so if there's a particular item you're set on, call ahead or go early to be safe. Treat this plan as a framework — swap cafes in and out based on the day you visit and how much energy you've got left.
