The charm of Koh Chang is its long string of west-facing beaches, with the sun dropping into the sea straight ahead every evening — which makes a "beach bar" the main event for most people who come here. Each beach has its own character. White Sand Beach is the liveliest, with bars lined up in a row; Kai Bae and Klong Prao are quieter and better for couples; and Lonely Beach is the island's real party zone. We've ordered this list by atmosphere and how easy each spot is to reach, not by which is "best" — because everyone wants something different.
Read this before you head out
The road around Koh Chang is steep with several hairpin bends, especially the hills between beaches. Riding a motorbike at night after drinking is very risky here. We'd use a red songthaew (shared pickup taxi) or call a ride — and if you plan to drink, pick a bar you can walk home from.
White Sand Beach — the liveliest, bars in a row
White Sand Beach is the first beach you reach after the ferry, and the one with the most bars on the island. In the evening, beachfront spots lay out cushions facing the sea so you can sip a drink and watch the sun go down in comfort. Several keep the music going with live bands into the night.
Sabay Bar
The best-known beachfront bar on White Sand, and on the island. The draw is the evening fire-spinning show by the sea (usually starting around 8:30pm), plus a live band playing rock and pop. It gets loud and busy, with plenty of younger travelers. Reviewers consistently note that drinks and food run pricey compared to the spots next door — you're mostly paying for the show and the location.
White Sand Beach Sky Bar
A bar built around the sunset view, with a more romantic feel than the party spots. Good for a cocktail in the golden hour (roughly 5:30–7:00pm) before heading off to find dinner.
15 Palms Beach Bar
A beachfront spot with cushions and seating right on the sand, so you can have dinner while the sun sets. There's a happy hour, prices are mid-range, and the vibe is relaxed without getting rowdy.
Oodie's Place
A live-music bar leaning rock and blues, with a friendly, hang-with-your-mates feel. Drinks are easier on the wallet than many beachfront spots, so it suits people who care more about the live music than the view.

Klong Prao & Kai Bae — quieter, good for couples
Further south are Klong Prao and Kai Bae. These two beaches are quieter and more laid-back than White Sand, with fewer bars but sunset views that are every bit as good. They suit anyone who wants to chill without the crowds — couples or families.
El Barrio
A Mexican restaurant near Kai Bae that plenty of reviewers credit with the best cocktails in the area, using good-quality spirits in a stylish bistro setting. Prices run above the island average, but the drinks are seriously mixed — a good pick for a special dinner.
Cabana (White Knot Resort)
A poolside bar right on the beach at this resort, calm and quiet — good for sipping a drink at sunset without loud music. It's not crowded, and you can go even if you're not staying at the resort.
Morgan Bar
A small, warm, friendly bar near Kai Bae focused on handmade cocktails in a comfortable setting. Mid-range prices, and a good fit for anyone who likes a quiet bar where you can sit and talk for hours.
Tastory (Pearl Beach)
A garden bistro near the Klong Prao–White Sand border, with a DJ spinning at sunset. The standout is the value: happy-hour cocktails around 120 THB, and a vibe that sits between mellow and lively.
Lonely Beach — the island's party zone
Lonely Beach is the party center of Koh Chang. Bars stay open late, with DJs, drinks served by the bucket and fire shows. At sunset some spots are still quiet enough to sit and chill, then they pick up after dark. If you're here for the party, this is the destination — just drink responsibly.
Lonely Beach Bar
The classic beachfront bar of the area, with cushions set out on the sand. The early evening is good for a cocktail and the sunset, with rotating DJs and a chilled vibe before it ramps up later. A solid way to start the night.
Stone Free / Himmel & Ting Tong
A cluster of bars on the Lonely Beach lane. Stone Free is a long-running spot with pool tables and good music, while Himmel and Ting Tong are dance bars open until dawn, with DJs and on some nights bands down from Bangkok. This is the real party zone — not for anyone hoping for an early night.
Drink responsibly — what to know before drinking by the sea
- Buckets are stronger than they look — the bucket drinks at Lonely Beach are mixed with a heavy hand. Pace yourself and know your limit.
- Don't swim while drunk — you can't see the currents in the dark, and getting in the water after drinking is very risky.
- Riding after drinking = dangerous — Koh Chang's roads are steep with hairpin bends. Take a red songthaew or walk back to your place instead.
- Watch your valuables — beachfront bars get crowded late at night, so keep an eye on your bag and phone.
- Some places close in low season — during the monsoon (roughly May–Oct) some bars and resorts close or cut their hours. Check before you go.
Match the beach to your style
Want a quiet, couples-style sunset → Kai Bae / Klong Prao · want live music and plenty of bars to choose from → White Sand Beach · want to party till dawn → Lonely Beach. All three beaches face west, so you get the sunset at every one.
