Koh Kood takes a while to reach — you ride a boat from Laem Sok pier or one of the piers in Trat province. But the moment you arrive, the pace of life slows right down. Most of the island's cafes are clustered around Klong Chao Beach, the main accommodation area, and along the canals through the mangroves. We've ordered them from open-air sea-view spots to the quiet ones in the forest, so you can pick depending on how your day is going.
Sea-view cafes for catching the breeze
These first three are the ones people mention most when they talk about Koh Kood cafes, because they sit where you get the full sweep of the sea. Best in the late morning or before sunset.
Good View Cafe
A cafe on the cliff above Klong Chao Beach — you can climb the steep stairs from the sand or drive up. The draw is the wide sea view from up high. The coffee here is pulled on a real espresso machine and tastes better than at a lot of places on the island. There are waffles, toast, brownies, and fruit smoothies that reviewers say come in generous portions for the price.
View Point Cafe
A former fisherman's house on wooden stilts out over the water at Klong Chao. You sit in a wooden hut catching the sea breeze with a mix of mangrove and ocean in view. Plenty of people say the iced coffee here is the best on the island, and it's a sunset spot folks keep coming back to.
Million Beach Cafe & Bar
A beachfront cafe in the S Beach area — a white, open-air building with long tables by the sea plus white tents and beanbags where you can dig your feet into the sand. They serve coffee, tea, smoothies, waffles, brownies, and cocktails in the evening. Good for settling in for a long stretch from afternoon into the night.
Tip
Most sea-view cafes on Koh Kood are open-air, and around midday the sun is strong and hot. For the nicest atmosphere, drop by in the late morning or from 4pm onward — the breeze is cooler and the light is much prettier.
Want to taste deeper? Try a Koh Kood food tour or cooking class
Half a day with a local who knows the lanes — or cooking a dish yourself — teaches you more than just eating. Book ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide.
Mangrove cafes for a quiet break
Another side of Koh Kood is the cafes hidden along the canals in the mangroves — still water, plenty of shade, birdsong instead of waves. Perfect if you want to escape the sun and find a quiet corner to rest.
Nomkhon Station
A canal-side cafe in the mangroves, across from Paradise Divers, where you can watch the still blue water all day. Coffee, Thai tea, and small bites at prices friendlier than a lot of the island. There are waffles, toast, and brownies to order alongside your coffee.
Khun Than
An old wooden house standing over the water around Klong Mad, with the feel of a traditional waterside home. Good for sipping coffee quietly, away from the bustle — a spot both locals and laid-back travelers stop at.
Mangrove Bungalow & Restaurant
A waterside spot in the mangroves with a thatched roof and rattan chairs, where you catch the cool breeze off the canal. It's both a cafe and a restaurant, so you can stop for coffee or have a light meal. Shaded and cool all day.
Cafes for dessert and baked goods
If you want something sweet with your coffee, these three lean toward baked goods and homemade desserts. Some have homemade ice cream and matcha to try too.
Soul Good
A spot for coffee, matcha, waffles, and homemade ice cream around Ao Ngam Kho. Worth a stop if you're into matcha and fresh-made sweets. Easygoing atmosphere, good for a rest after a swim.
The French Bakery
A French-style bakery around Hin Dam with croissants, baguettes, pastries, sandwiches, and pizza. Good for grabbing fresh baked goods in the morning to go with your coffee, or to take on the boat for the ride.
Little 9 Cafe
A small cafe serving coffee and cake. What people remember is the resident cat you can play with. Good for anyone who likes a warm, homey feel — an easy spot to sit and sip a coffee.
Air-conditioned cafes to escape the heat
On days when the sun is brutal or you want to sit and work, there aren't many air-conditioned spots on the island — but there are a few to choose from.
Suanya Coffee
An air-conditioned cafe around Klong Mad, across from a resort entrance. It's one of the few places on the island where you can sit in an air-conditioned room — good for a hot day or when you want to duck out of the heat and sip a coffee in peace.
How to pick a cafe for your day
- Want the full sea view — Good View on the cliff or Million Beach on the sand, in the late morning or evening.
- Want to watch the sunset — View Point on stilts over the water; go before 5pm to grab a spot by the edge.
- Want to escape the sun and find a quiet corner — Nomkhon Station or Khun Than in the mangroves, shaded and cool all day.
- Want dessert or baked goods — Soul Good for matcha and ice cream, or The French Bakery for croissants in the morning.
- A hot day and you want air-con — Suanya Coffee around Klong Mad.
Cash and signal
A lot of places on the island take cash only, and the few ATMs there are tend to have long queues — bring enough cash with you. Mobile signal and electricity are still patchy in parts of the island, so don't count on being able to work online at every cafe.
What to know before you go cafe-hopping on Koh Kood
- Things cost more on the island — everything has to come over by boat, so a coffee at ฿60–110 a cup is normal here.
- Monsoon May–Oct — some boats stop running and some accommodation and shops close. Check that the place you want to visit is open before you go.
- The roads are narrow and steep — if you rent a motorbike to go cafe-hopping, drive slowly. The climb up to Good View is fairly steep, so watch out when it's wet and slippery.
- Hours can be unpredictable — some small places close on the owner's whim or by season. A call or message before you head out is the safer bet.
- Diving and boat trips — check the weather — if you're mixing cafe stops with diving, check the conditions and swell ahead of time. The sea around here changes fast.
