Koh Phangan 4 Days 3 Nights
Party, Quiet, Diving, Wellness

Koh Phangan packs several personalities into one island — Haad Rin with its famous Full Moon Party, a quiet north with clear water, the reefs around Koh Ma, and Sri Thanu, the island's yoga and wellness capital. This 4-day 3-night plan fits all of it in, starting with the most high-energy day and winding down to an easy day of rest before you leave, with real prices and real spots that are still open.

Koh Phangan 4 Days 3 Nights Party, Quiet, Diving, Wellness

What makes Koh Phangan special is how flexible it is. You can come to party all night, or come to find a quiet corner and fall asleep to the waves — all on the same island. This plan is built for travelers who want a taste of everything, and 4 days 3 nights is just about the right amount: not so rushed that you burn out, but enough to see the lively south, the calm north, and the wellness zone on the west coast.

Most trips start at Thong Sala pier, which is the main port, the market, and the hub of the island all in one. From there you fan out to each zone. Distances on the island aren't long, but some stretches of road are steep and full of sharp bends — and that really matters when you're planning how to get around.

Before you go — getting there and where to stay

Koh Phangan still has no airport, so you'll need to take a boat from Surat Thani or Koh Samui. The Lomprayah high-speed catamaran from Surat Thani runs around 350–450 THB per leg (transfers included in the package), while the Raja Ferry from Don Sak is cheaper at around 200 THB but takes longer, roughly 3 hours. If you're coming from Samui, the crossing is only 30–45 minutes.

  • Pick your base by style — party people go for Haad Rin (Haad Rin), chill travelers pick the west coast around Ban Tai and Sri Thanu, and those after real quiet head north to Thong Nai Pan and Chaloklum.
  • Rent a motorbike — from around 200 THB/day, available near the pier. It's the most flexible way to get around the island.
  • Songthaew (shared pickup truck) — runs the main routes between Thong Sala, Haad Rin, Chaloklum, and Thong Nai Pan. Good if you'd rather not drive yourself.
  • Taxis on the island have fairly fixed, high fares and are hard to haggle down — always write down the price before you get in.

On road safety

The roads toward Thong Nai Pan and some spots in the north are steep and get very slippery in the rain. If you've never ridden a motorbike on steep roads before, don't push it — take a songthaew or taxi, it's safer. Motorbike accidents are common on this island. Wear a helmet every time.

Party smart

The Full Moon Party is genuinely fun, but the "buckets" (mixed spirits in a small pail) hit harder than you'd think. Alternate with plain water, never leave your drink and come back to it, always wear shoes because there's broken glass in the sand, lock your passport in the hotel safe, carry only the cash you need, and arrange your ride back in advance. Don't ride a motorbike drunk.

Full-day tours start around 1,800–2,200 THB per person (roughly USD 58–66) and usually include hotel transfers, lunch, gear, and a guide.

Sea safety

FAQ

Is 4 days 3 nights enough for Koh Phangan?

It's enough to hit all the highlights — the party south, snorkeling at Koh Ma, the quiet north, and a wellness day in Sri Thanu. If you want to commit to a serious detox-yoga program, or take a slower pace, allow 5–6 days.

Do you have to go on a Full Moon night to make it worth it?

Not at all. Koh Phangan is fun any night — Haad Rin has bars open and events like Half Moon / Jungle Party on other nights too. The upside of skipping the Full Moon is cheaper accommodation and a less crowded island. For reference, Full Moon nights in 2026 fall around 31 May, 29 Jun, 29 Jul, 28 Aug and so on — check the date before you book.

Is accommodation on Koh Phangan expensive?

Prices swing a lot with season and location. Guesthouses start at just a few hundred baht, but in high season and on Full Moon nights they climb several times over, especially in Haad Rin. Book weeks ahead if you're going for a Full Moon night.

Can you get around Koh Phangan without riding a motorbike?

Yes. Songthaews run the main routes, and there are island taxis (fares are fairly fixed and high, hard to haggle). Some northern roads are steep and slippery — if you're not used to riding on steep roads, a songthaew or a chartered ride is safer.

When is the best time to visit Koh Phangan?

Roughly May to October the sea is clear and great for swimming and snorkeling, while from March to May the tide drops enough to form a sandbar you can walk across to Koh Ma. That said, island weather can be unpredictable — always check the forecast before you go.
