You can drive around Pai in under 10 minutes, so most cafes cluster into two zones: in town, around the walking street, where everything is walkable, and along Route 1095 on the way into town, the field-and-mountain-view cafes that take a short car or motorbike ride to reach. This plan saves the view cafes for day one and the in-town walking-and-eating for day two. If you've only got one day, just cherry-pick from both.
Before you head out
A lot of cafes in Pai keep their own hours: some close on Saturdays, some shut early around 5pm. It's worth a quick check of the shop's Facebook page before you go, especially during the rainy low season when some places cut back their opening days.
10 Pai cafes worth the stop
We picked these from places that are actually open and get steady reviews, ordered so you can see which ones stand out for the view, which for the coffee, and which suit a long sit. Prices are rough ranges and can shift with the menu and the season.
Coffee in Love
The legendary cafe on Route 1095 heading into Pai, the spot that put Pai on the map back in the movie era. Wide-open views over fields and mountains, plenty of photo corners. The coffee is middling, but you come here for the setting and the view.
Earth Tone
A vegan-organic cafe-restaurant that's one of the most talked-about in town. They serve brunch all day, smoothie bowls, granola, and organic coffee with beans roasted in-house. It's across from Wat Phra That Mae Yen, open daily except Saturday, roughly 9:30am–5pm.
Khaotha
A specialty coffee shop near the clock tower and the town's central park. Relaxed feel, and you can pick your roast level, light, medium, or dark. Locals say the coffee lives up to the name. Walkable from the walking street.
Cafe de Pai
A long-running spot open since 1999, right in the center of town. Full coffee menu, espresso, latte, mocha, starting around ฿40, plus breakfast sets and baked goods. A good place to start the morning before heading out.
Fat Cat
A vegan-vegetarian cafe on the edge of town, known for its banana-oat-nut breakfast bowls at around ฿100, made without sugar, with gluten-free options. The coffee is solid too. Good for clean eaters or anyone keeping it plant-based.
Khaotharoasted
A cafe set in a big garden in Wiang Tai, with seating among the trees and a pond view. Open daily 9am–5pm, made for a long, slow coffee away from the bustle of town.
Art Farm Studio
An art-leaning cafe in Wiang Tai with an artistic fit-out and a rooftop terrace where you can catch the breeze and a mountain view. Good for anyone who likes quirky photo corners that don't feel like every other cafe.
Pangsanee
Decked out in a loft-meets-vintage style with plenty of seating, known for its panini toasts and a range of breads. A good afternoon stop for something sweet alongside your coffee.
Pai Coffee Studio
A cafe in Mae Hi with fragrant coffee and a quiet, easy atmosphere. Better suited to people who care more about good coffee than a full-on view, and a nice way to dodge the crowded spots in town.
Espresso Bar by Prathom
A tiny coffee bar in town for serious espresso drinkers, focused on the shot and a friendly, laid-back vibe. Good for a single cup while you're wandering the walking street.
A cafe-hopper's tip
Hit the view cafes along Route 1095, like Coffee in Love, early, when the sun is still soft and the crowds are thin, photos come out better than at midday. Save the in-town cafes for the afternoon, when it's an easy walk and you're not driving against a stream of tourists.

Day 1 — mountain-view cafes on the edge of town
The first day focuses on the spots that take a short car or motorbike ride, since they sit along the road and on the outskirts. We've laid out the route to flow from the town entrance and loop back, so you never retrace your path.
View cafes + vegan brunch
Day 2 — eat and cafe-hop in town
The second day covers the in-town spots that are all within walking distance, no car needed. You can start late and easy, then loop around the walking street through to the evening.
In-town cafes + desserts
How to do it in a single day
If you've only got one day, don't try to hit every cafe. Just pick one of each kind: one view cafe, one in-town coffee-focused cafe, and one brunch spot to fill you up.
- Morning — Coffee in Love on Route 1095 for the mountain view before the crowds
- Late morning — Earth Tone or Fat Cat for one vegan-organic brunch
- Afternoon — Khaotha in the center of town for a specialty coffee, then on to the walking street
- Evening — street food on the walking street to close it out
Getting around Pai
Pai is a good place to rent a motorbike for the outlying cafes, around ฿100–150 per day, but the mountain roads have plenty of curves. If you're not confident riding, stick to the in-town cafes you can walk to, or use a local hired ride one trip at a time.
Food stops to slot between cafes
Pai isn't just coffee. Save some room through the day for the local food, so you don't fill up on snacks and miss the real thing.
Pai Walking Street
The hub for evening eats, savory and sweet, grilled bites, and the odd unusual snack. You can graze your way down the whole street.
LunchKhao Soi & Nam Ngiao, Pai-style
Local northern Thai dishes you'll find at town eateries, a good lunch before heading out to the afternoon cafes.
Pai souvenirs
Locally roasted coffee, dried goods, and crafts to take home, picked up from the walking street and shops in town.
