The charm of this side of Pathum Thani is the quiet. The 100-year-old Rahaeng Market in Lat Lum Kaeo district is still a long row of wooden shophouses along the water, where locals do their real shopping β nothing staged for tourists. Over on the Mueang (town) side you'll find Thep Pathum Park on the Chao Phraya, an old morning market, and a cluster of former government buildings that are fun to photograph. This plan runs over two days: day one focuses on Rahaeng Market and the town side, day two heads up along the river toward Sam Khok.
Before you go β a few things to know
- Rahaeng Market is busiest on weekends, roughly 9amβ5pm. On weekdays only a handful of stalls open and it gets very quiet, so if you want the market in full swing, go on a Saturday or Sunday.
- Having a car is by far the easiest option. The sights are spread across different districts (Lat Lum KaeoβMueangβSam Khok), 15β25 minutes apart by car. Driving yourself or renting a car is much smoother than relying on public transport.
- If you don't have a car, take the Red Line train to Rangsit station, then a taxi or hired ride into Pathum Thani town or Lat Lum Kaeo. Budget a fair bit of extra time and fare for that.
- In the rainy season (JunβOct), check the Chao Phraya water level. In high-water years the walkway along the embankment at Thep Pathum Park can flood β check the latest on the Pathum Thani municipality's page before you go.

Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want β prices and availability are shown live on each site.
Day 1 β 100-Year Rahaeng Market + the riverside town
Century-old wooden market, then down to the river at dusk
Tip
Food and sweet stalls at Rahaeng Market tend to start closing in the afternoon, so to try everything, late morning to noon is best. Thep Pathum Park looks its best in the softer light around 4:30β6pm β get there before sunset and you'll catch both the golden hour and the afterglow.
Day 2 β Up the Chao Phraya to the riverside community of Sam Khok
Old temples, riverside markets and Sam Khok's Mon heritage
Markets & food you shouldn't miss
Rahaeng Market, 100 Years (Lat Lum Kaeo)
A riverside wooden market over a century old β the heart of this trip. You can stroll it any day, but it's truly lively on weekends, with noodles, old-style coffee, Thai sweets and traditional snacks.
Pathum Thani Municipal Morning Market (Thet Pathum Rd)
An old morning market in the center of town, with fresh produce and plenty of food. It's near the cluster of former government buildings and Thep Pathum Park, so you can do it all in one area.
Wat San Chao Riverside Market
A market on the Chao Phraya at the mouth of the Bang Luang Chiang Rak canal, with over a hundred stalls in all β an easy-walking riverside spot for food.
Ing Nam Sam Khok Market
A laid-back community market along the Bang Toei canal and the Chao Phraya, with Mon sweets and local snacks.
Extra canal & riverside stops to add
Thep Pathum Park
A riverside park on the Chao Phraya in town, with a pier, walking spaces, a sunset-viewing corner and parking. Free to enter.
Wat Thua Thong, Sam Khok
An old temple on the Chao Phraya on the Sam Khok side, with Mon-style art to see and a peaceful feel β a good place to stop and pay respects along the way.
Pathum Thani old-building district
A cluster of former government buildings and the original provincial courthouse around Thet Pathum Road β fun to wander and photograph for the old architecture.
Make the most of your trip
If you only have one day, trim it down to Rahaeng Market in the morning and midday, then close out at Thep Pathum Park in the evening β you'll still get both the old market and the river view. If you're into temple-hopping, add a riverside temple in Sam Khok on day two to soak up the full Chao Phraya atmosphere.
