Pattaya is the kind of place you can fill a whole day without repeating yourself. Spend the morning at the wooden architecture of the Sanctuary of Truth, walk Nong Nooch Garden or hop a boat to Koh Larn around midday, swing by the carved hillside Buddha at Khao Chi Chan in the afternoon, then head to Walking Street for the lights at night. The best part is that nothing is too far apart — rent a car or hire a songthaew and you can cover a lot easily. Here are the 5 main spots Pattaya locals tell first-timers to hit first.
5 Pattaya Attractions Worth Visiting
Sanctuary of Truth
A seaside wooden temple in Naklua, over 100 metres tall and carved entirely by hand. It has been under construction for decades and still isn't finished, which makes it a rare chance to watch traditional woodwork up close. Go in the morning before the sun gets harsh. You'll need to wear a hard hat inside since it's still an active build.
Nong Nooch Garden
A large botanical garden south of town with several themed sections — a French garden, a dinosaur valley, plus Thai cultural and elephant shows. It's easy to spend a whole day here and great for families. If you want to catch a show, pick the ticket that includes it.
Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain)
A mountain with a gold-inlaid laser-carved Buddha image about 130 metres tall, created to honour the King's 50th year on the throne. Out front is a wide garden and a reflecting pond. It's prettiest in the late afternoon when the light softens, and it's free to enter. It sits south near Nong Nooch, so you can pair the two on the same day.
Koh Larn (Coral Island)
The island off Pattaya with much clearer water than the beaches in town. It has several main beaches such as Tawaen and Samae. Boats from Bali Hai Pier take 30–40 minutes — go to swim, snorkel over shallow coral, or do it as a day trip out and back. Always check the weather and sea conditions before you go.
Walking Street
A roughly 500-metre pedestrian street along South Pattaya beach, open to foot traffic in the evening, lined with seafood restaurants, bars, live music and nightlife venues. The lights and energy are lively. It's good for soaking up the atmosphere and grabbing seafood by the sea — go with your wits about you, keep an eye on your valuables and stick with a group.
Planning Tip
The Sanctuary of Truth and Walking Street are on the town side, while Nong Nooch and Khao Chi Chan are a few kilometres apart down south. Pairing places in the same direction on the same day saves a lot of travel time.

Sanctuary of Truth — Woodwork by the Sea
The Sanctuary of Truth is an all-wood temple carved entirely by hand, set on the sea in the Naklua area. The building weaves several Asian religious beliefs into its carvings. What makes it special is that it's still being built and has never been finished, so you get to watch real woodworkers at work as you walk through. Because it's an active construction zone, you'll be given a hard hat at the entrance, and there are cultural and elephant shows at set times.
- Hours — 08:00–18:00 daily, last entry around 17:00
- Tickets — adults ฿500 daytime (evening rounds cost more), children ฿250
- Dress — dress modestly, as it's a cultural site
- Best time — early morning before the sun is harsh, for better photos and fewer crowds than the afternoon
Nong Nooch — A Big Garden for All Ages
Nong Nooch is a botanical garden covering hundreds of rai south of town, with several landscaped zones including a French-style garden, a model dinosaur valley and a cactus plaza. You can wander and shoot photos all day. Another highlight is the Thai cultural and elephant shows, which run several times a day. If you're set on the shows, get the ticket that includes them and check the elephant show times before you plan your walk.
Nong Nooch Ticket Prices
Foreigner tickets are split into ฿800 with the show and ฿500 without, while Thai nationals or holders of a Thai driver's licence pay ฿300. These prices can change during festival periods, so double-check at the entrance to be sure.
Khao Chi Chan — A Buddha on the Cliff
Khao Chi Chan is a mountain with a gold-inlaid, laser-carved Buddha image on its cliff face, about 130 metres tall, created to honour the King's 50th year on the throne. Out front is a wide garden and a reflecting pond. Entry is free with no ticket. It sits south near Nong Nooch, so you can see both in one day. The late afternoon, when the light softens, gives the prettiest photos and more comfortable weather than midday.
Koh Larn — Clear Water Off Pattaya
Koh Larn lies out to sea from Pattaya, with much clearer water than the beaches in town. It has several main beaches: Tawaen is the liveliest, with restaurants and water activities, while Samae and Nual beaches are quieter and calmer. Boats leave from Bali Hai Pier — there are budget passenger ferries that take 30–40 minutes, and speedboats that are faster but cost more.
- Passenger ferry — about ฿40/trip, departs 06:30–18:30, takes 30–40 minutes
- Shared speedboat — about ฿150–300/trip, gets there in 15–20 minutes
- Private boat charter — from around ฿1,500 for a small group, depending on boat size
- Check before you go — look at the weather and sea conditions; boats may not run during the monsoon
A Word on the Boats
Before boarding for Koh Larn, check the forecast and ask at the pier about the sea conditions. If the water is rough, push your trip to another day. Always wear a life vest and keep valuables in a waterproof bag.
Walking Street — Lights After Dark
Walking Street is a pedestrian street along South Pattaya beach, roughly 500 metres long, that closes to cars for walkers from early evening. Both sides are lined with seafood restaurants, bars, live music and nightlife venues, and the lights and buzz are a Pattaya signature. From around 18:00–20:00 it's still quiet; from 21:00 onwards the crowds build. If you just want to stroll, take in the atmosphere and eat seafood, early evening is plenty.
Enjoy the Nightlife Sensibly
Walking Street has a nightlife district. Keep your wits about you, watch your bag and valuables, and going with a group feels safer. Always agree on the price of drinks or services clearly before you order, and there are tourist police along the whole street.

How to Make a 2-Day Pattaya Trip Count
If you're staying overnight in Pattaya, here's a route that keeps you from doubling back. Day one tackles the town side and the harder-to-reach spots; day two heads south to Nong Nooch and Khao Chi Chan — or swap in a beach day at Koh Larn if you prefer.

South: Garden & Mountain
Swap In a Beach Day
If you'd rather focus on the sea, just swap day 2 for Koh Larn. Take an early boat from Bali Hai, spend the whole day swimming at Tawaen or Samae beach, and head back in the evening — but always check the weather first.
Getting Around Pattaya
- Songthaew — loops the main routes in town, good for short hops; agree on the price before you get in if you want to charter one
- Motorbike/car rental — handy for getting around the southern spots like Nong Nooch and Khao Chi Chan; you'll need a licence and a helmet
- Taxi/ride app — convenient but pricier, good at night or with lots of luggage
- Boat to the islands — leaves only from Bali Hai Pier; check the last boat back before you return
