Jomtien Beach Pattaya
Long, quiet, and easy with the whole family

If Pattaya sounds a bit too hectic for you, Jomtien Beach is the answer for anyone who wants the sea but at a slower pace. The sand runs for more than 6 kilometres alongside the beach road, lined with coconut palms, canvas sun loungers you can rent for the day, a long row of seafront restaurants, and a watersports zone for anyone after a thrill. It's a beach where families can let the kids paddle far more comfortably than on the city-side Pattaya Beach.

Jomtien Beach Pattaya Long, quiet, and easy with the whole family

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

Jomtien Beach sits south of central Pattaya, just past Pratamnak Hill on the way down. It's a long, continuous stretch of sand several times longer than the city-side Pattaya Beach. The busiest spots are central Jomtien and the southern end around the Dongtan curve, while the far end heading toward Na Jomtien gets even quieter and cleaner, ideal for anyone wanting to escape the crowds. The big draw here is the more relaxed feel: the water is fairly shallow close to shore so kids can wade, and there's tree shade running the whole length.

How Jomtien differs from Pattaya Beach

Plenty of people mix up Pattaya Beach (the city side, near Walking Street) with Jomtien Beach. The short version: Pattaya Beach is lively, comes alive at night, has loads of bars and big crowds, while Jomtien is quieter, longer, with finer sand, and far better for lounging all day. If you're travelling with family or just want to relax without diving into the nightlife, Jomtien is the more comfortable pick.

  • Atmosphere — Jomtien is quiet and laid-back · Pattaya Beach is lively, with a fun nightlife
  • Beach length — Jomtien runs over 6 km, so there's room to spread out and never feel cramped
  • Who it suits — Jomtien for families and chilled-out couples · Pattaya Beach for the party crowd
  • Watersports — both beaches have them, but the Dongtan curve at the southern end of Jomtien is easier and more open

Beachfront restaurants on Jomtien

Part of Jomtien's charm is that you can genuinely eat right by the sea, from old-school seafood spots and modern beach clubs to little roadside stalls selling snacks. We've picked places that are still open and that both locals and visitors talk about, just to give you a sense of the options. The prices below are rough ranges and will shift depending on the menu and the season.

Tip

Most beachfront restaurants open from late morning until late night, roughly 10am to midnight. If you want a good sunset-view table, aim to sit down before 5pm, and call ahead to book the popular spots on long weekends because they fill up fast.

Watersports — what you can do and what it costs

The popular watersports zone is on the southern Jomtien side around the Dongtan curve, where the space is open, the waves are gentle, and staff are on hand to brief you before you go, with a life jacket provided every time. The prices below are the rates we've actually seen from operators in that area; you may be able to haggle a little if you're in a bigger group or visiting off-season.

  • Jet ski — around ฿900–1,500 per 30 minutes (riders take turns within the rented time)
  • Banana boat — around ฿800 per 30 minutes, up to 6 people per ride
  • Parasailing — around ฿1,000 per ride, drifting up for a view of the beach from above
  • Towable sofa/donut ring — around ฿800 per 15 minutes, about 4 people, great for groups of friends
  • Canvas lounger + ring float — rentals from around ฿40, yours for the whole day

Beyond the quick thrills, Jomtien is also one of Thailand's well-known kitesurfing spots, with schools like Blue Lagoon KBA Kiteboarding School teaching everyone from total beginners. The wind is best from late in the year into early the next (roughly November to April) and again during the southwest monsoon. If you're interested, check wind conditions with the school before you head out.

Safety first

Wear a life jacket every time and listen to the full safety briefing before you launch. Agree on the price and the time clearly before you start, photograph the price board or save the chat to avoid misunderstandings, and if the sea is rough or a red flag is up, sit it out for now.

Seafront places to stay on Jomtien

Jomtien has places to stay at every level, from quiet luxury seafront resorts on the Na Jomtien side to condo-hotels in the middle of the beach where the sea is just across the road. Getting there and what to bring

  • From Bangkok — about a 2-hour drive on the motorway, or take a minivan/coach to Pattaya and connect by songthaew
  • Songthaews in Pattaya — there are routes running into Jomtien, with fares from around ฿10 per trip along the main routes; if you charter one, agree on the price before you get in
  • Parking — many watersports spots have free parking, while the busier stretches of beach can be hard to find a space, so arriving early is easier
  • What to bring — sunscreen, a swimsuit, a towel, and a waterproof phone pouch if you're doing watersports

Enjoy Pattaya with your wits about you

The city side of Pattaya has a nightlife district, so if you head out at night, keep an eye on your valuables and your bag. Don't leave your things on a beach lounger while you go for a swim, and if you're planning a boat trip to Koh Larn or a nearby island, always check the weather and the sea conditions first. On rough days it's better to postpone.
