Phetchabun With Kids An Easy 2-Day Khao Kho Family Trip

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

Khao Kho is about a 5-hour drive from Bangkok, and it stays cool nearly all year. Some of the mountain roads are steep and winding, but most of the family-friendly stops are a quick walk from the car park — no trekking required. This plan keeps each day to just 2–3 main stops, leaving room for the kids' afternoon nap and so you're not rushing to drive after dark, since the mountain roads have no lights.

Before you go

With young kids you'll really want your own car — Khao Kho's stops are spread 10–20 minutes apart and there's no public transport up the mountain. Pack a light jacket too, because mornings and evenings can drop to 15–18°C.

The 2-day, 1-night plan at a glance

  • Day 1 — head up the mountain late morning, stop at a view cafe for lunch, hit a flower field in the afternoon, then check into a resort with a pool in the evening
  • Day 2 — animal farm in the morning so the kids can see sheep and horses, the dinosaur park mid-morning, then stop at Wat Pha Sorn Kaew for photos on the way down
  • Rough budget — entry fees for the whole trip run about 600–900 THB for a family of four; family rooms start around 1,500–2,500 THB/night

Day 1 — Flower fields + view cafes

Day 1

Up the mountain · flowers · resort check-in

10:30
Arrive at Khao Kho, stop at Pino Latte Resort & Cafe for lunchA cafe with panoramic mountain views and a big open lawn for the kids to roam. They serve both mains and desserts. Open 08:00 on weekends and 10:30 on weekdays. Around 44% of reviews say it's good for bringing kids.
13:00
Head into Khaokho Flower TerraceA terraced flower garden built in steps, with smooth paved paths — a stroller can manage some sections. Entry is about 60 THB, redeemable for a 20 THB drink discount. There's also a skywalk and a zipline that older kids can try for around 30 THB.
15:30
Take a drink break at the garden cafe; kids nap in the car between stopsThe flowers rotate with the seasons. In the cool season (Nov–Feb) you'll see the most blooming at once — sunflowers, marguerites and other cool-weather flowers all out together.
16:30
Check into a family resortPick one with a pool or a play area — like De Capoc Resort (outdoor pool + activity lawn) or Pak Dee Home Wiew Mok (with a playground) — so the kids can burn off energy after a full day in the car.
18:00
Dinner at the resort or somewhere nearbyKhao Kho's roads get dark fast and have no lights, so it's best not to drive far at night. A place within a 5–10 minute radius will feel a lot more relaxed.

What to know about the flowers

The flower fields up at Khao Kho genuinely depend on the season. If you come in the rainy season (Jun–Sep), some beds may be resting between plantings. Check the garden's social page before you go to see what's actually blooming, so you don't end up disappointed.

Day 2 — Animal farm + dinosaurs

Day 2

Farm · dinosaurs · Wat Pha Sorn Kaew

08:30
Wake up at an easy pace, breakfast at the resortNo need to rush — today's stops open around 08:00–08:30, everything is a short walk, and there are no long lines in the morning.
09:30
Head into B.N. FarmAn agricultural farm of over 1,000 rai with vegetable plots, a flower zone and an animal corner for the kids. Easy to stroll around. Entry is about 20 THB, open 08:30–17:00, with a cafe on-site to take a break.
11:00
Head into Amazing Dinosaur Khao KhoA dinosaur park with big moving models that roar, plus a maze zone for the kids to run around. Open daily 08:00–17:00. Adults 131 cm and up pay 120 THB, kids 91–130 cm pay 60 THB, and under 90 cm get in free.
12:30
Lunch near the dinosaur parkThere are made-to-order spots and noodle shops around here — easy for kids to eat, and no need to drive far.
14:00
Stop at Wat Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew before heading downA pagoda decorated with colorful tiles that photographs beautifully. The path has some steps, but it's manageable while carrying a small child — a nice closing stop with no long walk.
15:30
Start the drive back down the mountainAim to leave before 3:30 pm so you clear the winding mountain road before dusk. It's an easier and safer drive than after dark.

Why this plan works for young kids

The key to taking kids up Khao Kho is simple: don't cram in more than 3 stops a day. Little kids run out of steam fast and get cranky if they walk too much. So this plan leaves time for an afternoon nap, sticks to spots you can reach on foot from the car park, and skips anywhere that needs real trekking or climbing.

Kids' play

What the kids love most

Amazing Dinosaur and the animals at B.N. Farm — the kids get moving models up close and real animals to see right beside them.

Adults chill

Where parents get a break

View cafes like Pino Latte and Flower Terrace — sit with a coffee and the mountain view while the kids run around a safe lawn.

What to pack

  • A light jacket — Khao Kho is cool at 15–18°C morning and evening, and little kids get cold easily
  • Hats and sunscreen — the midday sun is strong, especially out in the flower fields where there's no shade
  • Snacks and water in the car — there are stretches between stops with no shops, for when kids get hungry on the road
  • A foldable stroller or carrier — some paths aren't smooth, and a carrier moves better than a stroller in those spots
  • Personal meds and motion-sickness pills — the road up is winding, and some kids get carsick

FAQ

Is taking young kids up Khao Kho tiring? Is the road tough?

Most of the family-friendly stops are a quick walk from the car park with no trekking — places like Flower Terrace, B.N. Farm and the dinosaur park. The road up the mountain itself is winding and steep in spots, so if your kid gets carsick easily, bring motion-sickness pills and drive slowly.

When is the best time to visit Khao Kho for family flower photos?

The cool season, roughly November to February, has the most cool-weather flowers blooming at once — both sunflowers and marguerites — and the weather is pleasantly cool. In the rainy season some beds may be resting, so check the garden's social page before you go.

Are the kids' attractions at Khao Kho expensive to get into?

Most are very cheap. B.N. Farm is about 20 THB, Flower Terrace about 60 THB, and Amazing Dinosaur is 120 THB for adults, 60 THB for kids 91–130 cm, and free for under 90 cm. For the whole trip, expect around 600–900 THB for a family of four.

How many days are enough for a family with kids?

Two days and one night is just right, with 2–3 stops a day to leave room for the kids' nap. If you only have one day, pick one view cafe and one nearby flower field — that's plenty. Don't overpack it, because little kids run out of steam fast.

What kind of place should I stay in with kids?

Pick a resort with a pool or a play area, like De Capoc Resort or Pak Dee Home Wiew Mok, so the kids can burn off energy after a full day in the car. And have dinner close to where you're staying, since Khao Kho's roads are dark with no lights.
