Phetchabun's mookata scene splits neatly into two camps. The first is the in-town buffets, around 180–300 THB per person, with loads of food and a long buffet line — great value when you're eating in a group. The other camp is the spots up on Khao Kho, which sell the mountain views and cool wind first and foremost; prices tick up a bit, but you get an atmosphere the in-town places can't match. Below we start with the in-town spots that are cheap and easy to find, then work our way up to the mountain-view places that suit an overnight trip.
10 mookata and grill-buffet spots locals in Phetchabun actually go to
Je Wi Mookata Buffet (Branch 2)
The in-town buffet locals talk about most for value. Long buffet line, plenty of snacks, drinks included and no time limit on your table — ideal for a group of friends or family who want to eat for hours. It's on the side facing the army camp, before you reach Phet Chomphu village.
MoMo Grill & Shabu Phetchabun
A Korean-Japanese style grill-buffet and shabu spot, a newer place in town with several set options to match your budget — from a starter set up to a premium set with ribeye and seafood. The buffet line is kept fresh and topped up constantly, and there's dessert like mulberry sorbet. Open from midday onward, good if you like picking your own set.
Champ Buffet Mookata & Grilled Prawns
The clear draw here is grilled prawns and seafood at buffet prices. If you'd rather grill prawns and shellfish than just pork, this is the place — one flat price including drinks, open from afternoon until evening. Good for a day when you want seafood without counting the cost per piece.
Tang Tao Buffet Mookata & Grilled Seafood (Sa Yao)
A buffet in the Sa Yao area focusing on grilled seafood alongside mookata. Plenty of seating, easily handles big groups, and it's a regular meet-up spot for people around Sa Yao. The seafood is decently fresh for an in-town buffet.
F. Buffet Grill (on the road up to Khao Kho)
A grill-buffet right at the start of the climb up to Khao Kho, about 300 m from the Camp Son junction. A good-value option for anyone driving up the mountain who wants to eat before reaching their accommodation. There's a drinks-not-included price and a refill price that includes drinks, with seafood on the line.
Love U Mookata Buffet Khao Kho
A grill-buffet up on Khao Kho that people stop at while touring the mountain. Friendly prices, in a zone that's easy to drive to — good if you want mookata near the sights without coming back down into town.
Shabu & Mookata Windmill View Khao Kho
A spot that sells its windmill view first and foremost, with mookata, cheese prawns and shabu. Open only Saturday-Sunday, midday to evening, good for anyone who wants a grilled meal plus a nice photo corner in the cool late-afternoon light.
Krua Kanyama Khao Kho
A small mookata spot on Khao Kho that locals pass on as a tucked-away find. It serves mookata with som tam and grilled chicken, home-style flavors — good if you want a local feel rather than a big buffet.
Phu Pha Mok Khao Kho Resort (Mookata sets)
A restaurant inside a resort where you get both the view and your mookata, served as sets. There are snacks like curry-powder soft-shell crab, fried chicken wings and pork liver — good if you're staying in this zone and want a relaxed dinner without going anywhere.
Sea-of-Mist View Mookata (Khao Kho glamping/resort zone)
Several camps and resorts on Khao Kho have a mookata zone where guests can sit and eat looking out over the sea of mist in the evening. Prices run higher than in town because you're paying for the setting — some places do a set around 599 THB. Good for an overnight trip when you want to close the day with a warm meal and a view.
Tips for choosing a spot
If you want value and lots of food, go for an in-town buffet (Je Wi / MoMo / Champ). But if you're touring Khao Kho and want the view, budget another couple hundred baht for the mountain spots, and book or call to check first — several view places open only on Saturday-Sunday or by season.

In town vs. up on Khao Kho — which to pick
The main difference is price and atmosphere. The in-town Phetchabun spots focus on good-value buffets, 180–300 THB per person with loads of food, great for eating in a big group. The Khao Kho spots sell the mountain views and cool wind, with prices moving to sets in the high hundreds up to five or six hundred baht. If your trip already has you staying on the mountain, a view spot for one meal is worth it for the setting. But if you're staying in town or want to save, the in-town buffets cover more bases.
- Coming as a group, want value — go for an in-town buffet, Je Wi or MoMo Grill & Shabu
- Love seafood and grilled prawns — Champ Buffet, or Tang Tao Buffet for grilled seafood
- Touring Khao Kho, want the view — the windmill-view spot, or a sea-of-mist resort's mookata zone
- Driving up the mountain, want to eat before your stay — F. Buffet Grill near the Camp Son junction
When to go
Phetchabun's cool season (roughly November–January) is when mookata tastes best, because the cold weather makes the atmosphere — but it's also the busiest time. View spots on Khao Kho fill up fast on long weekends, so go before 18:00 or call ahead to book. The in-town buffets get packed from around 7 pm onward; if you'd rather not wait, going right when they open is easier.
On paying
Most in-town buffets take bank transfer / PromptPay, but some of the smaller spots up on Khao Kho are easier with cash. Carry a bit of cash when you head up the mountain, since the signal is patchy in places.
