The three main stops on this plan all sit within 10 kilometers of the town center. Wat Tha Luang is right on the Nan River in central Phichit, the old-town park is about 7 kilometers to the south, and Bueng Si Fai is on the west side of town. So the plan is to do the temple visit in town first thing in the morning, follow with the old town through late morning and midday, then finish at Bueng Si Fai in the evening — which happens to be exactly when the lake looks its best.
This day works best if you have your own car or a rented motorbike, since the sights are spread out and public transport around town is thin. With no vehicle you can hire a car between stops, but you'll move much more freely driving yourself. Total distance for the whole day is under 30 kilometers — an easy drive that won't wear you out.
Where you're going today, at a glance
- Morning — Wat Tha Luang, paying respects to Luang Pho Phet on the Nan River in the town center
- Late morning — Phichit old-town park: the city pillar shrine, Wat Mahathat, Chalawan Cave
- Midday–afternoon — back into town for lunch, then rest out of the afternoon heat, or browse the souvenir market
- Evening — Bueng Si Fai: cycle around the lake, photograph the Chalawan statue, eat at the riverside night market
Route-planning tip
Bueng Si Fai is at its prettiest and liveliest from evening into the night, when the food market, bike rentals, and lakeside music all come alive — so it makes sense as the last stop of the day. The temple and old town are easy to do in the morning, while the sun is still gentle and the crowds haven't shown up yet.

Why the route runs in this order
The reason for doing Luang Pho Phet at Wat Tha Luang first thing is that it's central, easy to set off from, and the sun isn't hot yet. From there you head south to the old-town park, an open area that's still bearable to walk in the late morning. By noon you're back in town right on time for lunch, you spend the afternoon resting in the shade, and you save Bueng Si Fai for the evening — when the lake is at its prettiest and busiest, with the soft light, the night market, and the breeze off the water. The whole thing wraps up in one loop with no doubling back.
Adjusting the plan for who you're with
With family / older travelers
Lean on Wat Tha Luang and Bueng Si Fai, both easy to walk. Cut down the walking at the old-town park — just stop by the city pillar shrine and Wat Mahathat — and take a longer, relaxed lunch.
Photo and cafe people
Give Bueng Si Fai more evening time to catch the sunset and the Chalawan statue, and slot in a cafe in town during the afternoon before heading out to the lake.
A stop en route to Phitsanulok / Nakhon Sawan
If you only have half a day, just pick Wat Tha Luang + Bueng Si Fai and you'll have seen Phichit's highlights, then drive on.
Things to know before you go
- Getting around — your own vehicle is by far the easiest; the sights sit within a 10 km radius, only a few minutes apart by car
- Free entry — Phichit old-town park is open daily with no admission fee; it's an open public area
- Temple dress — Wat Tha Luang is a royal temple, so dress modestly; covering shoulders and knees is more appropriate
- Timing for Bueng Si Fai — busiest from evening into the night, when the market and bike rentals are open; come in the morning and it's much quieter
Straight talk
Phichit is a small town and its sights aren't flashy the way a big city's are. The appeal is in the quiet, the Krai Thong-Chalawan legend woven into the town, and Bueng Si Fai reworked into a riverside park where people come to sit out in the evening. Come expecting that and you'll have a better time than if you're expecting grand spectacle.
