Phichit sits halfway between Nakhon Sawan and Phitsanulok, and plenty of people drive straight past without stopping. But with two days to spare it's more fun than you'd expect. The town is known as "Mueang Chalawan" after the Krai Thong–Chalawan legend tied to the Nan River. The main sights cluster in and around the town center, all within a ten-to-twenty-minute drive of each other, so it's easy to plan an unhurried trip. This itinerary assumes you're driving yourself or renting a car, since public transport around town is limited.
2-Day, 1-Night Trip Overview
- Day 1 — Explore the town: Wat Tha Luang (Luang Pho Phet) by the Nan River, a stroll through the old quarter, then Bueng Si Fai in the evening for the sunset
- Day 2 — Phichit Old City Park and the Chalawan legend, with a stop at a cafe or for souvenirs before you leave
- Good for — couples, families, and easygoing travelers who want a small town to themselves
- Getting around — driving yourself is easiest; parking in town is easy to find
Before You Set Off
Phichit gets strong midday sun, especially in the hot season. Schedule outdoor activities like Bueng Si Fai for the late afternoon, and keep the temples and shaded spots for the morning — you'll have a much more comfortable day.

About Bueng Si Fai
Bueng Si Fai has been redeveloped over the past few years and now has restrooms, parking, and bike rentals on site. Bike rental runs around 20–40 THB per ride. The breeze is pleasant in the late afternoon — aim to arrive about an hour before sunset so you can ride while the light is still good.

Where to Stay in Phichit
Most places to stay in Phichit are mid-range hotels and local guesthouses in the town center, at friendly prices. Pick a spot in town near the train station and market and you'll reach the sights most easily, since everything is packed within a few kilometers. For a two-day, one-night trip, a single night in town is plenty.
When to Book Ahead
You can usually find a room in Phichit without much trouble, but during the annual long-boat racing festival (around September) the town fills up and rooms go fast. If you're set on visiting then, book ahead.
