Phichit Itinerary 2 Days, 1 Night

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

Phichit sits halfway between Nakhon Sawan and Phitsanulok, and plenty of people drive straight past without stopping. But with two days to spare it's more fun than you'd expect. The town is known as "Mueang Chalawan" after the Krai Thong–Chalawan legend tied to the Nan River. The main sights cluster in and around the town center, all within a ten-to-twenty-minute drive of each other, so it's easy to plan an unhurried trip. This itinerary assumes you're driving yourself or renting a car, since public transport around town is limited.

2-Day, 1-Night Trip Overview

  • Day 1 — Explore the town: Wat Tha Luang (Luang Pho Phet) by the Nan River, a stroll through the old quarter, then Bueng Si Fai in the evening for the sunset
  • Day 2 — Phichit Old City Park and the Chalawan legend, with a stop at a cafe or for souvenirs before you leave
  • Good for — couples, families, and easygoing travelers who want a small town to themselves
  • Getting around — driving yourself is easiest; parking in town is easy to find

Before You Set Off

Phichit gets strong midday sun, especially in the hot season. Schedule outdoor activities like Bueng Si Fai for the late afternoon, and keep the temples and shaded spots for the morning — you'll have a much more comfortable day.

It's enough for the main in-town sights. Day 1 covers Wat Tha Luang, Luang Pho Phet, and Bueng Si Fai in the evening; Day 2 covers the Old City Park and the Chalawan legend. If you want to add temples outside town like Wat Khao Rup Chang or Wat Pho Prathap Chang, stretch it to three days.

When is the best time to visit Bueng Si Fai?

Late afternoon before sunset is best — the breeze is cool and you can walk or cycle around the lake. There's a food market and viewing spots, and some days have live music by the water.

How do you get to Phichit?

Driving yourself is easiest. Phichit sits halfway between Nakhon Sawan and Phitsanulok, with the northern rail line passing through and buses into town. Public transport around town is limited, though, so having a private car or a rental is recommended.

What souvenirs is Phichit known for?

Tha Khoi pomelo is a local specialty — in season you can buy it at orchards and souvenir shops. There are also local snacks and processed river fish to take home.
