Phichit With Kids
3 Days: Bueng Si Fai, Pomelo Orchards & Temples

Phichit is a small town that's easy to do with kids β€” no long drives, and the main sights cluster close to each other around the center. One day you take the kids to see fish and crocodiles at Bueng Si Fai, another day you head out to the Tha Khoi pomelo orchards and stop at old temples tied to the Krai Thong–Chalawan legend. This is a 3-day, 2-night plan paced so the kids don't get worn out and the grown-ups still get a breather.

Phichit With Kids 3 Days: Bueng Si Fai, Pomelo Orchards & Temples

πŸ”„ Updated 21 Jun 2026

The nice thing about Phichit with kids is that everything sits close together. Bueng Si Fai is just a few minutes from the town center, and the old temples and the historical park are all within a half-hour drive. The town is quiet, there's no traffic, and kids can wander around without you having to watch them too tightly. We built this plan around late-morning starts, with the afternoons leaving room for naps, and we kept it from being packed with too many activities.

Before You Go: Prepping a Phichit Trip With Kids

  • Best time to visit β€” November to February is the most comfortable, with cool weather that makes walking around the open-air Bueng Si Fai bearable. Tha Khoi pomelos also fruit well from late in the year into the new year.
  • Getting around β€” A private car is by far the easiest. Some sights sit outside the municipal area; the pomelo orchards and Wat Pho Prathap Chang both need a drive out. Public transport in town is sparse.
  • Where to stay β€” Pick a place in Phichit town near Bueng Si Fai, so it's easy to swing back for the kids' midday naps.
  • What to pack for the kids β€” Hats, drinking water, sunscreen, and snacks, because some spots like the pomelo orchards don't have a convenience store nearby.

Day 1 β€” Arrive + a Full Day at Bueng Si Fai

Knock out Bueng Si Fai on the first day, since it's the spot kids love most in town. There are fish, crocodiles, bikes, and open space to run around by the water.

Day 1

Travel + Bueng Si Fai

11:00
Arrive in Phichit, check in at your hotel in town, drop your bags and head out for lunch.Restaurants in town have noodle soup and made-to-order dishes that are easy for kids to pick from.
13:00
Enter Bueng Si Fai, starting at the Chaloem Phra Kiat Freshwater Aquarium β€” a nine-pointed-star-shaped building that juts out over the water, with tanks of more than 20 freshwater fish species for the kids to look at.It's indoors and air-conditioned β€” a good way to dodge the afternoon sun.
14:30
Walk over to the crocodile pond and the big statue of Phaya Chalawan, and snap a check-in photo at the town's landmark.Tell the kids the Krai Thong–Chalawan legend along the way β€” it makes it more fun.
15:30
Rent a bike or stroll through Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Park by the lake. There's a bridge out over the water and a pavilion in the middle for sitting and feeding the fish. The bike loop around the lake runs over 10 km β€” ride as much as you feel like, no more.
17:30
Watch the sunset over the lake, then head back into town for dinner.Bueng Si Fai closes at 18:00 on weekdays and 19:00 on weekends, so leave yourself time.

Tip

Bueng Si Fai is free to enter, but the aquarium keeps set hours. If you want the kids to get a full look at the fish, go before 3 PM, because the weekend evening queues get crowded.

Day 2 β€” Tha Khoi Pomelo Orchards + Legend Temples

Today you head a little out of town to walk the Tha Khoi pomelo orchards β€” Phichit's GI-certified specialty β€” then stop at old temples so the kids get a feel that's different from the town. The plan leaves the afternoon open to come back for a nap.

Day 2

Fruit Orchards + Temples

09:00
Have breakfast, then drive out to the Tha Khoi–Pho Prathap Chang area to see the Tha Khoi pomelo orchards. Walk among the trees, taste, and buy genuine GI-certified fresh pomelos straight from the growers. You can contact an orchard ahead of time. Some open for visits and sell at the orchard for a better price than the market.
11:00
Stop at Wat Pho Prathap Chang, a late-Ayutthaya-era temple. Walk around the old architecture in a shady, peaceful setting. It's a wide area where kids can wander β€” wear comfortable walking shoes.
12:30
Head back into town for lunch, then let the kids nap at the hotel in the early afternoon. The sun is harsh this time of day β€” resting at the hotel beats pushing on.
15:30
Go to Wat Tha Luang in the town center to pay respects to Luang Pho Phet, a Chiang Saen-style bronze Buddha image over 800 years old. The temple sits on the Nan River, so you can stroll along the water. The ordination hall is open until 18:00 β€” late afternoon, with softer sun, is just right.
17:00
Walk the evening market in town for snacks and souvenirs before heading back to your hotel.Pomelos, local sweets, and snacks are all worth taking home.

Day 3 β€” Old Town Historical Park + Heading Home

The last day is easy and close to town. Take in Phichit's Old Town Historical Park, tied to the Krai Thong–Chalawan legend, where the kids can hear the story and run around in the open space, then make your way home.

Day 3

Old Town + Heading Home

09:00
Check out, then head to Phichit Old Town Historical Park. Walk the old city walls, the ancient moat, old chedis, the city pillar shrine, and Si Mala Island. The area is a wide field with shady trees where kids can run around β€” bring water.
10:30
Stop by the Krai Thong–Chalawan cave in the same grounds, and tell the kids the legend of Chalawan the crocodile to close out the trip.It builds on the Chalawan statue you saw at Bueng Si Fai on day one.
11:30
Grab a last lunch in town and pick up more pomelos and souvenirs before you set off.Leave time for souvenir shopping before shops close for the midday break.
13:00
Set off home, wrapping up the 3-day, 2-night Phichit family trip.If you have time to spare, you can stop in Phitsanulok or Nakhon Sawan on the way.

Packing So the Kids Don't Fuss

  • Avoid the midday sun β€” Bueng Si Fai and the old town are open-air. Plan indoor activities or rest from 12:00 to 14:00.
  • Leave time for naps β€” Little kids should get at least one afternoon rest a day. Don't cram three stops back-to-back.
  • Carry backup snacks β€” Some spots, like the pomelo orchards and the out-of-town temples, are hard places to find food. Bring snacks and water.
  • Comfortable walking shoes β€” Several spots involve walking on grass and gravel paths.

3 days and 2 nights is just right. Spend day one on Bueng Si Fai, day two on the pomelo orchards and temples, and day three on the old town before heading back. If you're short on time, trim it to 2 days focused on Bueng Si Fai and Wat Tha Luang in town.

Is Bueng Si Fai good for kids? What's there for them to do?

Very much so. There's a freshwater aquarium with over 20 fish species in a nine-pointed-star-shaped building, a crocodile pond, a big Phaya Chalawan statue for photos, a bike path along the lake, and a pavilion in the middle of the water for feeding the fish. It's free to enter.

Can you just walk into the Tha Khoi pomelo orchards?

Tha Khoi pomelos are a GI-certified specialty, grown heavily around Pho Prathap Chang and along the Phichit river. Some orchards open for visits and sell at the orchard. We'd suggest contacting an orchard ahead of time. The fruit is at its best from late in the year into the new year.

When's the best time to go to Phichit with kids?

November to February is the most comfortable, with cool weather that makes walking the open-air Bueng Si Fai and old town bearable. It's also when Tha Khoi pomelos fruit well.

Which provinces can you continue on to from Phichit?

Phichit sits in the middle, with easy connections to Phitsanulok and Nakhon Sawan. If you have time left on the last day, you can stop at a neighboring province on the way back.
