Casa de la Flora — design cube pool villas on the beach at Khao Lak

If you've ever scrolled through Khao Lak resorts and stopped on those square, slate-grey villas with big glass walls — that's Casa de la Flora, a design-led resort and a Member of Design Hotels™ right on the beach. The whole place holds just 34 pool villas, and every single one has a private pool — no exceptions. The minimalist, modern architecture is unlike most Thai resorts. From approx. THB 6,000/night. Scored 9.3 from 63 Trip.com reviews.

Our Full Review

Casa de la Flora opened in 2012 and quickly became one of those resorts you recognise instantly from its design. What sets it apart from other Khao Lak resorts is its slate-grey cube architecture with big glass facades — clean and modern enough to earn it a place in Design Hotels™ (part of the Marriott family). The whole resort is just 34 villas lined along the beach, and every one has a private pool, from the entry category right up to the largest — something hard to match at this price point.

Rooms start with the Studio Pool Villa at around 70 sqm — and despite the 'studio' name, it has a terrace with a private pool and jacuzzi, plus a generous bathroom with a tub for two. Step up to the Beachfront Pool Villa (48 sqm but facing straight out to sea) and the Beachfront Suite Pool Villa (67 sqm with a separate living area) for waking up to the ocean from your bed. The Duplex 2-Bedroom and Beachfront Grand Pool Villa are two-bedroom villas for families or groups of friends. Guests regularly praise the cleanliness, the nightly turndown, and a minibar that's restocked free every day.

"We stepped straight from bed into our private pool, had breakfast looking out to sea, then walked a few steps to the beach — so beautiful we couldn't stop taking photos."

The heart of the place is its beachfront setting in Khuk Khak, Khao Lak — quiet, with a main seaside pool and a poolside bar. The La Aranya restaurant serves Thai and international food with a sea view, while Spa La Casa and a fitness centre cover the rest-day stuff. The thing guests mention most is the à la carte breakfast you can order until 2pm — every dish cooked fresh, not a self-serve buffet. It's perfect if you like to sleep in, though some note it can be slower than a buffet when the resort is busy.

Honestly, Casa de la Flora has a few trade-offs. The one guests mention most is that the beach in front swims only with the tide — at low tide it's shallow and wide, better for a stroll than a swim, so people rely on their villa pool and the main pool. Some reviews find the spa and gym ordinary for the price, and the resort's airport transfer pricier than just taking a taxi. It's about an hour by car from Phuket Airport. It scores 9.3 from 63 Trip.com reviews and 4.7/5 from over 920 TripAdvisor reviews (ranked #20 in Khao Lak) — consistently well-regarded.

The main pool and beachfront restaurant at Casa de la Flora in the evening

Casa de la Flora suits travellers who value design and the privacy of their own villa pool more than a swim-all-day beach. If you're a couple, on a honeymoon, or a group who loves a photogenic resort and quiet time in a private pool, it delivers. But if you're set on swimming in the sea, or want a large resort packed with activities, weigh it up. Rates start from approx. THB 6,000/night in low season, climbing to THB 11,000–13,000+ in high season for the beachfront villas.

A tip from reading the reviews: if the budget stretches, pick a Beachfront Pool Villa or higher so your pool and deck face straight out to sea — far better for the mood than the garden-view Studio. Check the tide schedule before you go to plan any sea swims, and try a late à la carte breakfast by the water one day — it's the feature guests love most here.

Honest Take
🎯
This place is a great fit if...
Casa de la Flora is best for travellers who value striking design and a private pool in every villa on Khao Lak beach — especially couples, honeymooners, or groups who love a photogenic resort and quiet time in their own pool. But accept that the beach out front swims only with the tide, it's a way from the airport, and the price isn't for every trip.
💡 Check before you book
These 3 points matter to some travellers — make sure they fit your trip (we have added the workaround).
  • 💡If you're set on swimming in the sea — the beach out front swims only with the tide, shallow and wide at low tide → rely on your villa pool and the main pool, or choose a deeper-water beach resort in this roundup.
  • 💡If you want a large resort with lots of activities — this is just 34 villas focused on calm and design, with an ordinary spa/gym → it suits those who'd rather relax in their own villa.
  • 💡If you haven't booked for high season (Nov–Apr) — beachfront villas sell out fast given the limited number → book 1–2 months ahead and pick a free-cancellation rate first.

Your pool and deck face straight out to sea — better for the mood than the garden-view Studio, ideal for couples who want to wake up to the ocean.
🌙
Check the tide schedule
The beach out front swims only with the tide — plan high tide if you want a sea swim; low tide is better for a stroll and photos.
🍳
A late breakfast by the sea
À la carte until 2pm, every dish cooked fresh — the feature guests love most. Sleep in one day and eat by the water.
🚖
Compare the airport transfer price

Frequently asked questions — Casa de la Flora, Khao Lak, Phang Nga

Where is Casa de la Flora and how do I get there?
Casa de la Flora sits right on Khao Lak beach in Khuk Khak, Takua Pa, Phang Nga Province. It's about 1 hour by car from Phuket Airport (HKT), and around 5 minutes from Bang Niang Beach and Market. The resort can arrange a transfer, but it usually costs more than a Grab/taxi — compare prices first.
How much does Casa de la Flora cost and what rooms are there?
Rates start from approx. THB 6,000/night for a Studio Pool Villa (~70 sqm, with a private pool). From there you can step up to a Beachfront Pool Villa (48 sqm, facing the sea), a Beachfront Suite Pool Villa (67 sqm), and a Beachfront Grand Pool Villa (2 bedrooms). High-season rates climb to THB 11,000–13,000+, so compare a few platforms before booking.
Does every villa at Casa de la Flora really have a private pool?
Yes — all 34 villas have a private pool, with no exceptions, including the entry-level Studio Pool Villa. It's the resort's main draw and hard to match at this price point, ideal for couples who want full privacy.
Can you swim at the beach in front of Casa de la Flora?
The beach out front swims only with the tide. At low tide it's shallow and wide, better for a stroll and photos than a swim, so most guests rely on their villa pool and the main seaside pool. If you're set on sea swimming, check the tide schedule and plan around high tide.
Who is Casa de la Flora best for?
It suits couples, honeymooners, or groups who value design and privacy. The resort is all about photogenic villas and private pools, not a large resort with lots of activities. It's better for those who want quiet time in their own pool than travellers set on swimming in the sea all day.
What is breakfast like at Casa de la Flora?
Breakfast is à la carte, served until 2pm, every dish cooked fresh rather than a self-serve buffet, at the beachfront La Aranya restaurant. It's great if you like to sleep in, though it can be a little slower than a buffet when the resort is busy — and it's the feature guests praise most.
