ibis Bangkok Siam — small rooms, unbeatable location, by the BTS and minutes from MBK

If you're coming to Bangkok and want a clean, affordable bed where you step out the door straight onto the BTS and into the malls — ibis Bangkok Siam answers that exactly. It's a 3-star ibis hotel (Accor) on Rama I Road, right by BTS National Stadium, about a 3-minute walk from MBK and close to the buzzing Banthat Thong food street. 189 rooms from approx. THB 1,500/night. It isn't fancy and the rooms are small, but for travellers who use their room only to sleep before heading out, this is a base that's hard to beat.

Our Full Review

ibis Bangkok Siam opened in 2012 as part of Accor's ibis brand, and it knows exactly what it is — an economy hotel built around cleanliness, consistent brand standards and a strong location. The building sits on Rama I Road on the same block as the National Stadium. The lobby isn't large and is finished in the bright, simple ibis look you'll find worldwide — anyone who has stayed at an ibis before will feel right at home the moment they walk in.

All 189 rooms are standard 17-square-metre units, available with a single queen or twin beds. Each has a small fridge, a kettle, a safe, a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi. The beds are comfortable and the linens clean, but in all honesty the rooms are small — this is the point reviews raise most. With two people and large suitcases, floor space gets tight, the bathroom is compact, and the shower pressure in some rooms is weaker than you'd hope.

"The room really is small, as everyone says, but it's clean and the bed is comfy. What brings us back is being able to walk straight down to the BTS — you can get anywhere — and the breakfast is more generous than you'd expect at this price."

The thing guests praise almost unanimously is the breakfast buffet at The Eight on the ground floor. There's both Thai and Western food, eggs cooked to order, fruit and bread, and enough variety that it doesn't get boring over several nights — many reviews call it better than the room price would suggest. The building also has a lobby bar, a small fitness room and, a favourite detail, a 7-Eleven and minimart right in the building, so you can grab something no matter how late it is.

Location is the real trump card here. It's about a 1–2 minute walk from the lobby to BTS National Stadium, just one stop from Siam. MBK is roughly a 3-minute walk, and you're close to the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC), the Jim Thompson House and Banthat Thong Road, which has become a hugely popular street for young Bangkokians to eat and hang out. Siam Paragon, CentralWorld or the Airport Rail Link are all easy hops away — for anyone who wants to see Bangkok purely by SkyTrain, this location is hard to top.

A bright communal area at ibis Bangkok Siam in the Accor brand's light, modern palette

To be honest, ibis Bangkok Siam isn't a hotel you'll want to linger in all day. There's no pool of its own (during some periods you can use a nearby sister hotel's pool for a fee), most rooms have a city view, and the in-room fittings are standard economy with no flourishes. But if you're the kind of traveller who's out the door by morning and back only to shower and sleep, prioritising location and price — a score of 8.7 from 1,113 Trip.com reviews and a 2025 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice award show most people in that group come away happy.

A tip from reading the reviews: if the standard room feels cramped, upgrade to a higher floor or a room flagged as a city view for more light and a sense of space. Rooms facing Rama I Road can catch some traffic noise, so if you're a light sleeper ask for an inner-facing room. And remember rates tend to climb during big events around Siam — book ahead and compare a few platforms to get the best value.

Honest Take
🎯
This place is a great fit if...
ibis Bangkok Siam is a great-value base for travellers who explore Bangkok by BTS — right by National Stadium station, walkable to MBK and Siam, with a good breakfast and reliable brand cleanliness. Just accept that the rooms are small, the bathrooms compact and there are no luxury facilities — it's for people who use the room mainly to sleep.
💡 Check before you book
These 3 points matter to some travellers — make sure they fit your trip (we have added the workaround).
  • 💡If you want a large room or arrive with several big suitcases — the 17 sqm standard rooms will feel tight → upgrade to a higher-floor / city-view room, or look at a 4-star hotel in Siam with bigger rooms.
  • 💡If you want a pool or full facilities — this is an economy hotel with no pool of its own → choose a design or 4-star hotel in the same area instead.
  • 💡If you can't sleep through noise — rooms facing Rama I Road catch traffic sound → ask for an inner-facing, higher-floor room at booking.

Insider Tips
🏙️
Ask for a high floor / city view
Standard rooms are small — for more light and a sense of space, request a higher floor or a city-view room at booking.
🤫
Avoid street-facing rooms if a light sleeper
Rooms facing Rama I Road catch traffic noise — an inner-facing room is noticeably quieter.
🍳
Add the breakfast package
The buffet at The Eight is widely praised — if the breakfast-inclusive rate isn't much more, it's better value than eating out.
🚆
Plan your days around the BTS
You're by National Stadium station — easy hops to Siam, Chit Lom, Asok or the Airport Rail Link without needing a taxi.
