Reverie Siam Resort — a riverside luxury resort in Pai that's held the town's #1 spot for years
Pai is full of hipster guesthouses, bamboo huts and hostels, but if you want genuine luxury in this small mountain-valley town, Reverie Siam Resort is the name that comes up most. A resort on the banks of the Pai River, styled in 1920s colonial design fused with Lanna craft — it looks like it stepped out of a film. It has held the #1 spot for Pai on TripAdvisor for years, and its 18 rooms and villas start from approx. THB 4,800/night.
Reverie Siam opened in 2013 on the bank of the Pai River, on the town side of Pai. The owners set out to build a resort that tells the story of the 1920s — the era when Siam and the West began to blend. The design is colonial fused with Lanna, complete with a gramophone, vintage touches, warm tones and details that feel considered in every corner. Many reviews say walking in feels like stepping back in time — this is not your typical Pai resort.
There are only 18 rooms and villas, each individually styled. Even an entry-level Deluxe runs to around 50 sqm, which is much larger than the rooms at most Pai resorts. There's Deluxe Garden View, Deluxe Pool Access that opens straight onto the pool, and 55 sqm villas with a private garden and an outdoor pavilion. Bathrooms are generous, beds are soft, and the sitting terrace is a feature reviews mention again and again.
"Open the door in the morning and step straight into the pool — clear water, quiet, just birdsong and the river. Worth every baht."
The two pools are the standout. One is a riverside infinity pool overlooking the mountains, the other a larger natural free-form stone pool that's more private. Both are kept clean according to reviews. The resort is wrapped in neatly kept, shady gardens with several quiet corners to sit — exactly the atmosphere travellers who come to Pai to genuinely rest are looking for, not the party side of Pai.
The Silhouette bar and restaurant serves Mediterranean dishes and a long list of tapas, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The English breakfast draws praise for its variety and flavour. The room has a vintage feel, and it's easy to linger over a glass of wine by the river in the evening. Service is another thing guests rave about — staff are warm and attentive, and there's a free shuttle into town, so getting around is never a worry.
The location is on the town side of Pai, about 5 minutes by car from the Walking Street and night market. It's far quieter than the Walking Street strip, yet still easy to reach town by shuttle or scooter. Mae Hong Son Airport is far away (a 3–4 hour drive over the mountains), so most guests take a minibus up from Chiang Mai. A 9.5 from 58 reviews on Trip.com and the #1 ranking among 32 Pai hotels on TripAdvisor (from 468 reviews) are hard to argue with.
To be honest, Reverie Siam isn't for every budget. Rates start at roughly THB 4,800–6,500/night for standard rooms, with villas higher. The most common gripe is that some rooms are fairly dark, with limited lighting in the evening for anyone who wants to work or read in the room. The menu also leans Mediterranean, with few local Thai dishes. If you come to Pai to be out on activities all day and just sleep in the room, the price may not be worth it. But if you want the hotel to be part of the trip — to sit still by the river, eat well and feel time slow down — it does that better than anywhere else in Pai.
A tip from reading many reviews here: ask for a Pool Access room or a villa facing the river — the riverside view and infinity pool are the resort's highlight. In Pai's high season (November–February, when it's cool), book at least 1–2 months ahead, as there are only 18 rooms and they fill fast.

- 💡If Pai's high season (Nov–Feb) is approaching and you haven't booked — with only 18 rooms it fills fast → book 1–2 months ahead and choose free cancellation first.
