Short answer: Always get travel insurance for Thailand. The biggest reason is medical cost — especially motorbike accidents, which are common among tourists. Private hospitals are good but expensive for serious cases. Choose a policy that covers medical treatment, emergency evacuation, and the activities you will actually do (including motorbike riding and diving).
What to check before buying
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Medical limit | Serious private-hospital cases can be very costly — pick a high enough limit |
| Emergency evacuation | From islands/remote areas you may need transfer to a major hospital |
| Motorbike cover | Many policies will not pay without a license or helmet |
| Adventure activities | Diving, ziplining, climbing must be listed as covered |
| Flights/baggage | Delays, cancellations or lost luggage |

This is where claims fail most often. Many policies only pay for motorbike-accident treatment if you held a valid license and wore a helmet. Confirm this clearly before you ride.
