Uthai Thani is a small town that's easy to eat in. Come evening, if you can't decide what to have, mookata is the answer locals pick most — it's filling, good value, and lets you sit and chat for hours. Shops here range from per-set plates with bold house-cured pork to buffets in the low hundreds of baht where you refill all you want. We've ordered them by popularity and value, and we'll tell you straight who each spot suits.
8 Mookata & Grill-BBQ Spots in Uthai Thani
Tak Baan Tone
A homey in-town mookata shop that's gone famous nationwide. The draw is the house-recipe cured pork that's genuinely tender, the self-cured pork belly, plus crispy pork crackling, fried garlic, and a signature dipping sauce. Reservations book out a month ahead; the first seating starts at 5.30pm. Reserve via LINE in advance, or walk in and put your name down out front from the afternoon.
208 Mookata Buffet
An in-town mookata buffet locals come to in groups — pay once, refill all you want. Great for families or a big table, filling and good value within a budget of a few hundred baht. Relaxed vibe, no booking needed.
Tee Lek Grill & Shabu
A grill-plus-shabu buffet. If you like both grilling and hotpot dipping in one meal, this will suit you. Plenty of ingredients to choose from, easy on the wallet, and good for a night when you just want a relaxed dinner with no queue to gamble on.
Theep Mookata (Nong Chang)
A mookata buffet over on the Nong Chang side, with some Isan dishes thrown in too. If you're staying or traveling around Nong Chang–Ban Rai and don't want to head into town, this is the handier stop. Friendly prices.
F&F Mookata
An in-town mookata shop with good reviews and easy prices, ideal for a dinner you don't have to plan — just walk in. A simple go-to that locals nearby keep coming back to.
Tai Mookata
A small, local-style mookata shop that's easy on the wallet, good for a tight budget or a table of two or three. Not fancy, but filling and friendly.
Lung Chian Mookata, Shabu & Grilled Seafood
A spot with mookata, shabu, and grilled seafood all in one place. If you want some grilled seafood on top of the usual pork, you'll like this. Good for a meal where you want to eat a bit of everything at once.
Khrua Moo Jum (near the stadium)
It's really more a moo jum (pork hotpot) shop than a grill, but if one day you want to swap grilling for a hot dip, this is the cheapest on the list. It does delivery too, perfect for a rainy night when you don't want to go anywhere.
Tip on the queue
If you're heading to Tak Baan Tone, don't count on walking in and eating right away. The shop opens LINE reservations in the morning and slots usually fill fast. If you didn't book, try putting your name down out front in the afternoon and budget time to wait. The in-town buffets, on the other hand, you can just walk into with no booking.

How to Pick a Spot That's Worth It
- Big group, tight budget — go for a buffet like 208 or Tee Lek, a few hundred baht per head with unlimited refills, better value than paying per set.
- Want the real deal and don't mind waiting — Tak Baan Tone is the one people will drive a long way for; the self-cured pork tastes different from your average shop, but you need a reservation.
- Traveling around Nong Chang–Ban Rai — Theep Mookata is handier than going into town, so you're not driving far back at night.
- Want some seafood too — Lung Chian has grilled seafood on top of pork, so you get pork, prawns, and shellfish in one meal.
- Rainy night, can't be bothered going out — Khrua Moo Jum does delivery, so you can order a hotpot to eat at your place.
Make Your Uthai Thani Mookata a Little Better
A good mookata is about timing, not speed. Grease the plate with oil or pork fat before you start, then line vegetables around the rim so the juices from the pork run down and simmer them. House-cured pork like Tak Baan Tone's goes on the top of the dome so it cooks just right. Don't rush off — the house dipping sauce is the star that makes each shop different, so taste it before you add anything.
On cash
Plenty of the local mookata shops in Uthai still run mostly on cash, so it's better to carry some, just in case the smaller shops don't take PromptPay.
Lakeside Grilling — a Festival Worth Checking
In the cool season some years, Uthai Thani holds a lakeside grilling festival at Bueng Phra Chanok, where mookata shops set up stalls by the water. The air is cool and pleasant and you can sit grilling with a view over the lake. If you're visiting late in the year, check the Uthai Thani provincial PR page to see whether it's on this year — it's a more relaxing dinner than sitting in a regular shop.
