Yasothon with Kids
An Easy 2 Days 1 Night

Yasothon is a small town that turns out to be easier with kids than you'd expect. Distances between stops are short, traffic is light, and there's a genuine mix to keep everyone happy: a public park to run around in, a giant toad-shaped museum kids love, a photogenic old quarter, and cafés with real play areas. We've laid out a 2-day, 1-night plan that takes it one stop at a time — never crammed — leaving room for naps and meals at a kid's pace.

Yasothon with Kids An Easy 2 Days 1 Night

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

When you take kids on a road trip, the things you dread most are long drives, cranky kids, and sights scattered all over the map. Yasothon helps a lot here, because most of the main stops sit in town or just on the edge of it — only a few minutes apart by car. So we've put the spots that need walking in the morning, the ones where you can sit and rest in the afternoon, and built in a midday nap window for the little ones. This plan suits families with toddlers through primary-school age, whether you've driven your own car or rented one.

Trip Overview Before You Set Off

  • Where to base yourself — stay in Yasothon town. It's close to Phaya Thaen Park, the Ban Singha Tha quarter, and the dinner spots, with nothing more than a 15-minute drive away.
  • Getting around — a private car is by far the easiest for a family, since you've got the car seat, kids' gear, and flexibility around nap times. There's no convenient public transport in town.
  • When to go — the cool season (Nov–Feb) has the best weather, comfortable enough to walk the park all day. Come in May and you'll hit the Bun Bang Fai rocket festival — crowded and hot, better suited to older kids than toddlers.
  • What to pack — hats, sunscreen, drinking water, and a folding umbrella. Several stops are out in the open, and the Isan sun gets strong from mid-morning.

Day 1 — Phaya Thaen Park, the Toad Museum & Old Town

Day 1

In town: stroll, learn, take photos

08:30
Start the morning with breakfast in townBreakfast spots and the morning market in Yasothon serve congee, rice soup, and old-school drip coffee — a good fill-up for the kids before you head out. Pick a place near your hotel so there's no rush.
09:30
Stroll through Phaya Thaen Public ParkA park in the centre of town beside the Lam Thuan stream, with a playground, open lawns, and a path around the lake. Perfect for letting kids burn off energy in the morning before the sun gets fierce. Free entry, easy parking.
10:30
Visit Phaya Khankhak Museum (the Toad Museum)A giant toad-shaped building about 19 metres tall, inside the Wiman Phaya Thaen grounds next to the park. Inside it tells the story of toads and frogs from around the world, with a 4D cinema about the Bun Bang Fai rocket festival that kids enjoy. Entry is about 40 THB for adults and 20 THB for kids.
12:00
Lunch break + nap time for the kidsHead back into town for lunch at an Isan or made-to-order spot with comfortable seating. Early afternoon, let toddlers nap at the hotel for an hour so they're not cranky come evening.
15:30
Walk the old Ban Singha Tha quarterA historic trading district of pastel-toned Sino-Portuguese shophouses — photogenic from every angle. It's a relaxed, short walk with cafés and snack shops dotted along the way, great for family photos.
17:00
Café stop in the old quarterAround Ban Singha Tha there are cafés set inside old buildings, like VA-CHI, where you can rest your legs over a coffee while the kids have a snack or an iced milk. A nice pause before dinner.
18:30
Dinner in townClose the day with bold Isan food or a mookata grill — the kind of spot locals in Yasothon gather at. Choose somewhere with plenty of seating for the kids, then head back to the hotel to wind down.

Day 1 tip

Phaya Thaen Park and the Toad Museum share the same grounds — park once and you can walk to both. Pairing them back-to-back in the morning saves time and means no shuffling the car around, so the kids aren't getting in and out repeatedly.

Day 2 — Phra That Kong Khao Noi & a Café with a Play Area

Day 2

A local legend, then a play-and-run café before heading home

08:30
Pack up and have breakfast before check-outDay two doesn't need to be as rushed as the first. Take a relaxed breakfast at the hotel or a spot in town to get the kids going before you set off.
09:30
Drive to Phra That Kong Khao Noi, Ban Tat ThongAbout 7 km from town along Highway 23 toward Kham Khuean Kaeo — under 15 minutes by car. It's an old square-based chedi tied to the legend of Kong Khao Noi, the son who killed his mother over a small basket of rice. There's a large car park, restrooms, and stalls selling local products.
10:30
Tell the kids the legend + walk around the chediUse the Kong Khao Noi legend as a story to teach kids about gratitude and patience. The walk around is short with some shade, but bring hats and water since it's out in the open.
11:30
Stop at a café with a play areaWrap up the trip at a family café like MißAree The Garden, with a garden, playground, and play equipment kids can use for free, while adults sit over coffee and lunch. A chance for the kids to burn off energy before the long drive home.
13:30
Lunch, then start the drive homeMany family cafés serve main dishes too, so eat lunch here and you won't need to hunt for another spot — then hit the road in the afternoon. Full and content, kids often sleep for the whole drive.

Day 2 tip

If the kids aren't ready to leave yet, there's a dedicated kids' café in town before you reach Phra That Kong Khao Noi — Len Baan Phing Kids Cafe, designed specifically for children. An easy add-on if you have time to spare.

Tweaking the Plan by Your Kids' Ages

Take it easy

Toddlers (under 4)

Focus mainly on Phaya Thaen Park and a café with a play area. Keep the museum visit quick, leave plenty of room for a midday nap, and don't pack in more than 2–3 stops a day.

Learn + play

Primary-school kids

The Toad Museum and its 4D cinema are the highlight for this age, the Kong Khao Noi legend makes for a fun story, and they can spend longer taking photos in the old quarter. Add an in-town kids' café as one more stop.

Less walking, more sitting

Three-generation family

Bringing grandparents along? Stick to low-walking stops with parking close by, like Phra That Kong Khao Noi and the Ban Singha Tha quarter. Avoid walking in the late-morning sun and schedule café rest stops more often.

The Honest Bits to Know Before You Bring Kids

  • Several stops are out in the open — Phaya Thaen Park and Phra That Kong Khao Noi get strong sun from mid-morning into the afternoon. Slotting them into the morning or evening is far more comfortable.
  • The museum has a closing day — Phaya Khankhak Museum is usually closed on Tuesdays, and weekday hours differ from weekend hours. Check before you go so you don't make a wasted trip.
  • Check opening days for kids' cafés — some family cafés close on certain days or get crowded on weekends. A quick call or look at their page first is the safer bet.
  • Short distances, but no convenient public transport — getting around Yasothon is easiest with your own car. If you didn't drive in, arrange a rental car or a private driver ahead of time.
