Look for a small unmarked door in a hidden sub-soi off Soi Nana, on the edge of Chinatown, and you have found Asia Today. Niks Anuman-Rajadhon opened it back in 2017, and it has since become one of the names Bangkok's cocktail crowd keeps coming back to, with a turn in Netflix's Midnight Asia documentary along the way. What sets it apart from its neighbours is a genuine obsession with rare Thai ingredients: the team goes out to find wild honey from Khao Yai, chrysanthemum flowers from Chiang Rai, and garlic from Lampang, then builds drinks around them that you simply cannot get anywhere else.
The one to order is the Bee's Knees, served in a hand-made beeswax cup so the wild-honey aroma reaches you before your first sip. Right beside it is the Honey Daiquiri (also called the Honeysuckle), built on a house rum blend and wild honey, soft and rounded in a way that explains the regulars. The menu shifts with whatever the team has foraged that season, so a drink you love tonight may be gone next month, which is part of the fun.
The room inside is small and warm, the kind of place where the bartender remembers your face, and sitting at the bar to chat is half the experience. On weekends it now opens as a daytime cafe from 10am to 4pm, pouring coffee from Thai roasteries, while the bar runs from around 7pm until late every day except Monday. The easiest way in is the MRT to Hua Lamphong, then a short taxi ride or walk into the Yaowarat lanes. Seats are limited, so message @asia_today_bar on Instagram to book before you go.
