If you want to know where Chinatown's cocktail boom began, the answer is a heavy wooden door on Soi Nana with the words Teens of Thailand written above it. This was Bangkok's very first specialist gin bar, opened by Niks Anuman-Rajadhon inside a minimally restored old Chinese shophouse. It became the spark for everything that followed: the cafes, bars and creative spaces that now fill Soi Nana all trace back to this corner. Niks himself was ranked 46 on the Bar World 100 list of the most influential figures in the global bar scene, the only Thai name that year, and Teens of Thailand remains a regular fixture on Asia's 50 Best Bars.

Gin is the whole point here, and the menu to look for is the Unusual Gin & Tonics, built on gins the bar infuses in-house with Thai ingredients you rarely see anywhere else: Thai tea, chrysanthemum, jackfruit, pink salted guava. A few pushes further still, into peppered pork jerky or sun-dried banana, yet every glass stays balanced and easy to drink. Prefer things straight? Order a proper classic Gin & Tonic. Feeling adventurous? Tell the bartender what flavours you like and let them build something for you. The room is deliberately the opposite of a polished speakeasy: plain, relaxed and free of ceremony, made for long conversations rather than showing off.

It is a small shophouse with limited seating, so Friday and Saturday nights fill up fast; go early or leave time to wait if you are a group. The easiest way there is MRT Hua Lamphong, then a roughly seven-minute walk into Soi Nana. The whole lane is lined with more bars and spots to hop between afterwards, which makes it a fine anchor for a slow drinking crawl through one of Bangkok's most enjoyable neighbourhoods.
