The Children's Discovery Museum Bangkok is a City of Bangkok museum built around learning through real play, not just looking at objects behind glass. Kids spin, press, climb, dig and try things for themselves at every stop. After a major renovation and reopening, the museum is split into several buildings arranged by age group and theme, with cool air-conditioned indoor zones and an outdoor lawn. Children love it because they get to play freely, and parents love that the fun comes with real skills to take home.
Highlights for kids
Each building has its own theme and activities, and walking through them all can easily fill several hours. These are the spots kids tend to fall for and ask to play again.
- Dinosaur zone & fossil dig — the highlight many kids run straight to, with a big dinosaur model and a sand pit where little explorers slowly dig up model skeletons.
- Water play garden — an outdoor splash zone with fountains and a fish tunnel to cool off in. It runs in set sessions through the day, so pack a change of clothes.
- Rainbow Building — designed for newborns to about age 6, with soft, colourful toys and play equipment that builds fine and gross motor skills.
- Role-play rooms — kids get to act like grown-ups, from cooking to building a pretend city and trying different jobs in timed rounds.
- Science and discovery zones — spread across the Tor Tawan, Universe and Unilever buildings, with hands-on exhibits to press, spin and test that teach light, sound, water and the human body.
- Outdoor lawn — open space and outdoor activities beside the park, perfect for burning off energy after the indoor rooms.
Tips for parents
It suits children from babies up to around 12, with the sweet spot roughly 2 to 10 years old. Many activity rooms and the water play run in timed sessions with age guidance, so check the schedule when you arrive. If the kids will play in the water, bring a spare outfit, a towel and non-slip shoes. Weekday mornings are quieter and let them play more freely than weekends.
Before you go
- Opening hours — Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 16:00, closed every Monday. Hours can shift on public holidays, so check the museum's page before you go.
- Entry fee — free. Register with an ID card or passport at the entrance and collect a wristband. There's an optional donation box, but nothing is required.
- Getting there — take the MRT to Chatuchak Park or Kamphaeng Phet station, or the BTS to Mo Chit, then walk about 5 minutes. It's right beside Queen Sirikit Park, and there's parking if you drive.
- Best for which ages — newborns to around 12, most fun for ages 2 to 10. Younger children need an adult close by.
Value and safety
Because it's a City of Bangkok museum, entry really is free and the place is kept clean and tidy, which makes it great value for a family day. The things to watch are the water zone and the climbing equipment, so stay close to little ones. School holidays and long weekends get busy, and the occasional room closes for maintenance, so if you're coming especially for one zone, check the museum's Facebook page before you leave home.
