This route works best if you have your own car (or rent one from Chumphon town), because the beaches and viewpoints are spread out beyond the towns and public transport doesn't reach them. The total distance from Pathio up to Ban Krut isn't far, an easy drive of around 1–1.5 hours between zones. The appeal is that it isn't packed like Hua Hin: fewer people, long beaches, and fresh seafood at prices that won't sting.
Why go block-day
Block day = lock the whole day into one zone, don't change hotels every night, don't drive long stretches. This approach suits the beaches around here because each one is worth sitting at for a while, not just a quick photo stop. We'd suggest one night near Pathio/Thung Wua Laen, then one more night up in Ban Krut or Bang Saphan.
The 3-day route at a glance
- Day 1 — Pathio zone (Chumphon) Thung Wua Laen Beach, Noen Sai Ngam dune, Saphan Hin Kop. Cover the Chumphon side of the coast.
- Day 2 — cross the province line to Bang Boet–Bang Saphan Drive the coastal road north past Bang Boet Beach (which straddles both provinces) on to Ao Bo Thong Lang.
- Day 3 — Ban Krut + Khao Thong Chai Crescent-moon beach, the great chedi up on the hill, then loop back.
Book the activities in your Chumphon trip ahead
Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want — prices and availability are shown live on each site.
Day 1 — Pathio zone, the Chumphon coast
Start from Chumphon town and drive north into Pathio district. It's about 16 km from town to Thung Wua Laen Beach. This zone has white sand and shallow water, ideal for an early swim before the sun gets harsh.

Straight talk
The Saphli beachfront walking street only opens Friday–Saturday evenings, 4 PM–10 PM. If your trip doesn't line up with those days, don't sweat it: the seafood at Pak Nam Chumphon is good any day of the week anyway.
Day 2 — crossing into Bang Boet–Bang Saphan
Today is the highlight of the plan. Drive the coastal road north across the Chumphon–Prachuap line, past Bang Boet Beach, a bay over 14 km long that straddles the two provinces, with fine sand, clear water and very few people. Then continue to Ao Bo Thong Lang, a bay so curved it's almost a full circle, earning it the nickname "the pearl of Bang Saphan".

Day 3 — Ban Krut and Khao Thong Chai
Ban Krut is a crescent-shaped beach over 12 km long, split into north and south Ban Krut by Khao Thong Chai hill. On the hill sits Phra Mahathat Chedi Phakdee Prakat, a white nine-spired chedi topped in gold, a 360-degree viewpoint over the Ban Krut sea that most people still haven't been to.

What to know before you go
- Your own car is the answer The beaches and viewpoints sit outside the towns and public transport doesn't reach them. If you don't have a car, renting one in Chumphon town is the easiest move.
- Fill up in the towns Stations are spread out along the coastal stretch, so top up before you leave town.
- Best season is Nov–Apr Clear water, gentle waves. In the rainy season (May–Oct) the Gulf side gets waves and rain in spells, so check the forecast first.
- Dress modestly for Khao Thong Chai and the chedi It's a sacred site, so wear sleeves and nothing too short.
- Quiet beach = few facilities Some beaches like Bang Boet really are deserted, so pack snacks and water in the car just in case.
Can be trimmed shorter
If you only have 2 days, combine days 1 and 2: do Thung Wua Laen in the morning, then drive straight up to Bang Boet–Bang Saphan and stay over in Ban Krut. On day 2, climb Khao Thong Chai before heading home. You'll still get the core of the route.
