🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026
A lot of people drive straight past Kamphaeng Phet, treating it as a pit stop on the way north. But stop for a couple of days and you'll find a 600-year-old old town that UNESCO listed as World Heritage alongside Sukhothai and Si Satchanalai. What makes it great for budget travellers is that the per-person cost is far lower than the better-known tourist towns — entry fees, lodging, and food included. We built this plan from real 2026 prices and only picked spots that are still open and running.
Rough Total Budget to Prepare
These numbers assume two people sharing a room and driving or renting a car yourselves, counting from the moment you reach Kamphaeng Phet town.
- 1 night's lodging — an in-town room runs about ฿400–600, so ฿200–300 each split two ways
- Total entry fees — Historical Park ฿40 + Aranyik-zone temples ฿40, around ฿80–100
- 4–5 meals — ฿50–120 each, around ฿400–500 total
- Fuel / getting around town + hot spring — around ฿300–400
- Egg-banana / krayasart souvenirs — around ฿150–250
Money-Saving Tip
The Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park ticket splits into two zones — the in-town zone (Wat Phra Kaeo, Wat Phra That) and the Aranyik zone (Wat Chang Rop, Wat Phra Si Iriyabot), at 40 THB each. Do the in-town zone first to get your money's worth. If your budget is really tight, you can pick just the Aranyik zone, which is bigger and has larger stupas.

Budget Hotels You Can Actually Book
Lodging in Kamphaeng Phet town is very wallet-friendly, and most places are a 5–10 minute drive from the Historical Park. Here's the group that starts in the low hundreds and still has solid reviews.
The Room Hotel Kamphaengphet
A small in-town hotel with clean rooms and cold air-con — perfect for a single night without paying much. It's close to restaurants and the market, with an easy run to the Historical Park.
Fiq Boutique Hotel
The cheapest boutique hotel in this group, with cute, well-styled rooms. Good for couples or solo travellers, and great value for the price.
Soda Resort
A garden-style resort with rooms roomier than the in-town hotels and a quiet, peaceful feel. Good if you've driven yourself and want easy parking.
Scenic Riverside Resort
A spot on the Ping River with a pool and breakfast. The price ticks up a little, but you get a river view — good if you want to upgrade the vibe without spending a lot.
Navarat Heritage Hotel
A downtown hotel travellers know by name, with standard rooms and breakfast included. Book during a promo and you'll get a good rate — good for anyone who wants a full-service hotel.
How to Book Cheap
Room prices in Kamphaeng Phet barely shift with the seasons, except during the Egg-Banana Festival (around September), when rooms fill up fast. If you're coming then, book 2–3 weeks ahead to lock in a rate before it climbs.
Famous Local Eats, Under 100 THB a Plate
This is the part that makes a budget trip fun, because Kamphaeng Phet's best food is cheap local cooking — no fancy restaurants needed to eat well and leave full.
Chakangrao Noodles
The province's most famous dish — hand-kneaded noodles that are chewy and soft, with a balanced broth in a style close to Sukhothai noodles. Many shops have passed the recipe down for decades. Don't miss the dry noodles with pork satay.
Siang Bamee
Another legendary noodle shop, around as long as Chakangrao. House-made noodles in a punchy tom yum broth. Locals can't agree on which shop is better, so try both and decide for yourself.
Ping River Fish
Kamphaeng Phet sits right on the Ping River, and several riverside restaurants do grilled and fried fish at friendly prices. Order to share among a few people — much better value than eating solo.
Egg-Banana — Crisped & Fresh
Kamphaeng Phet egg-bananas are known for being sweet and fragrant. Eat them fresh, or grab crisped egg-banana chips or banana paste as cheap snacks at markets and souvenir shops.
Krayasart
A local sweet made from puffed rice, peanuts, sesame, and sugar — chewy, sweet, and rich. It's a classic provincial souvenir you can take home; cheap, and it keeps for a while.
Evening / Night Markets in Town
The cheapest dinner is walking a market — rice-and-curry plates, fried snacks, and desserts starting in the tens of baht. Grab a few things and eat back at your room, full for under 100 THB.
Day-by-Day Plan
Set up so you keep moving without backtracking. Day one is all the cheap-entry World Heritage old town; day two adds nature and a hot spring before you head home.

Nature + Hot Spring Before Heading Home
If You Have an Extra Half-Day
For nature lovers who've driven themselves and have time to spare, there are a few spots you can add without blowing the lodging budget.
Khlong Lan National Park
Khlong Lan Waterfall is one of the biggest and prettiest falls in the province, and you can swim. It's about an hour's drive from town, with park entry in the tens of baht for Thais.
Blue Pool (Old Mine)
A check-in spot with vivid blue water from an old mine pit — great photos in good light, free entry. A handy stop on the way to Khlong Lan.
Mae Wong National Park
A large forest on the western side, with the Khun Nam Yen viewpoint and hiking trails. Good for campers who'd rather pitch a tent and save on lodging.
Check Before You Go
The Nakhon Chum retro market and some waterfalls only open on certain days or in certain seasons — falls look best in late rainy season especially. Check the official pages or call ahead before you set off, so you don't waste the trip.
