Khao Yai with the Kids
Farms, a Water Park & Animal Feeding in 2 Days

Khao Yai (Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima province) is one of the easiest places in Thailand to take kids. It sits about 2–3 hours from Bangkok and is a comfortable drive in your own car, and the family-friendly attractions line up one after another along Thanarat Road — a dairy farm where you can milk a cow, a sheep farm where kids hand-feed the animals, and a water park tucked into the hills. We've put together a 2-day plan where the kids get both animals and water time, paced so you're not constantly doubling back in the car and nobody ends up exhausted.

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

The nice thing about Khao Yai for families is that the attractions are clustered in stretches along Thanarat Road (the road up to the national park), so a short drive is all it takes to switch from one activity to the next. Little kids don't have to sit in the car long enough to get cranky. This plan leans on things kids actually take part in — feeding animals and playing in the water — mixed with meals and cafés where the parents get a breather too.

Plan ahead before you go

Khao Yai gets very busy on long weekends and through the cool season (Nov–Jan). The good places to stay fill up fast and prices climb, so if you're going then, book your accommodation several weeks ahead. Many of the water parks and farms let you buy tickets online in advance, which is usually cheaper than paying at the gate.

Day 1 — Farm Chokchai and animal feeding

Day 1

Dairy farm, sheep farm, cowboys

08:30
Leave your hotel and grab breakfast before the farmPlenty of restaurants and cafés along Thanarat Road open early. Pick one with rice porridge or a sizzling-pan egg breakfast that's easy for kids to eat, before the first farm tour slot.
09:30
Farm Chokchai — the farm tour ride around the propertyLocated at 169 Mittraphap Road, Nong Nam Daeng subdistrict, open 09:00–17:00. The drive-around farm activity runs about 120 THB per person. Kids get to try milking a cow, bottle-feeding calves, and watching the cowboy and sheepdog herding shows. Buy tickets in advance or arrive early — tour slots are limited and fill up fast on weekends.
12:30
Lunch — try the farm's steak or fresh-milk ice creamFarm Chokchai has its own restaurant and fresh-milk ice cream that kids love. Adults can also head out to one of the well-known steakhouses along Thanarat Road, since this area is Khao Yai's steak strip.
14:30
Sheep Land — feed the lambsAt kilometre marker 4 on Thanarat Road (the road up to Khao Yai), open 09:00–18:00. Entry is about 40 THB, with cups of feed for the sheep sold separately. Kids can get up close and feed the sheep themselves, and there's a café and wool souvenir shop out front where the adults can sit and rest.
16:30
Stop at Primo Piazza for Italian-village photos and to feed sheep and goatsA Tuscan-village-style spot, open Thursday–Monday 09:00–23:00. Entry before 17:00 is about 100 THB for adults and 50 THB for kids, with animal feed exchanged at the gate. There are photo corners and restaurants, so you can stay on for dinner.
18:30
Dinner around Pak Chong or Thanarat Road, then back to the hotelPak Chong has plenty of restaurants and evening markets. Pick something not too spicy that's easy for kids. After a busy first day, kids usually drop off to sleep early.

Animals and little kids

Before feeding sheep or goats, tell kids to keep their hand flat and lay the feed out so their fingers don't get nipped, and pack hand sanitiser to use after touching any animal. The farm animals are tame but fairly large, so little kids should always have an adult right next to them.

Day 2 — Water park and nature

Day 2

Water play and mountain views

08:30
Breakfast at your hotel or a café — bring swimwearPack swimwear, towels, a change of clothes, sunscreen, and non-slip sandals for the kids, since today is all about the water.
10:00
Scenical World — water park and amusement park in the hillsLocated at 777 Moo 5, Thanarat Road, Mu Si subdistrict, open 10:00–18:00. It has both a water park zone and amusement rides. The standard ticket is about 890 THB for adults and 680 THB for kids/seniors; promotional Splash Day Passes drop to around 599/399 THB. Booking online in advance is cheaper than at the gate, and there's a separate zone for little kids.
13:00
Lunch break inside the water park, then more play in the afternoonThere are restaurants and shaded seating inside the park. Let the kids eat and take a short nap before the afternoon session. Keep them from playing in the strong midday sun too long, and have them sip water often.
15:30
Leave the water park, stop at a farm café or flower field for photosThanarat Road has several farm cafés and flower gardens with big open spaces for kids to roam. Pick one with a lawn where the kids can run around after a full day in the water.
17:00
Pick up Pak Chong souvenirs before heading homeKhao Yai–Pak Chong souvenirs include fresh milk, ice cream, sweet corn, shiitake mushrooms and fruit wine. Stop at a market or a roadside souvenir shop along Mittraphap Road before getting on the highway home.

If your family has a third day or wants to add some nature, try driving up into Khao Yai National Park for half a day. Entry for Thai visitors is 40 THB for adults and 20 THB for kids, plus 30 THB for the car. A walk that kids can handle is Haew Suwat Waterfall, which isn't far from the car park — but build in extra time for the winding mountain drive.

What to watch out for driving in Khao Yai

The roads inside Khao Yai National Park wind and climb, and wildlife like barking deer, gaur and wild elephants really do cross the road — especially around dawn and dusk. Drive slowly and leave enough room to brake in time. If your kids get carsick easily, bring medicine and a bag. The stretch of Thanarat Road outside the park (where the farms and water park are) is flat and much easier to drive.

  • Drive slowly inside the park — wildlife crosses the road, don't honk to scare them off, and never feed wild animals.
  • Allow extra travel time — traffic backs up from the entrance on long weekends, so leaving early means fewer cars.
  • Pack for the kids — a change of clothes, sunscreen, hats, drinking water and snacks, since most activities are outdoors.
  • Check opening days — some attractions close on certain weekdays (Primo Piazza, for example, closes Tuesday–Wednesday), so call or check their page before you go.

Family-friendly Khao Yai spots that kids love

Beyond the three main spots in the plan, there are several more family places along Thanarat Road. If your family has extra time or wants to swap the programme around, we've picked the ones where kids genuinely get involved, with rough entry prices.

A dairy farm that's been part of Khao Yai for ages. The tour ride takes you around the farm, where you can milk a cow, bottle-feed calves, and watch cowboy and sheepdog herding shows. Kids get hands-on at every station.

Pal Adventure / activities for older kids

FAQ

How many days is right for Khao Yai with kids?

Two days and one night is about right for little kids. The first day focuses on farms and animal feeding, the second on water play at the water park. If you have bigger kids or want to add some nature, stretch it to three days and add a half-day in the national park.

What's the difference between Farm Chokchai and Sheep Land?

Farm Chokchai is a large dairy farm with a tour ride and station-based activities like cow milking and a cowboy show; the activity runs about 120 THB. Sheep Land is a smaller sheep farm with entry around 40 THB, focused on letting kids feed and pet the lambs as you walk around on your own, and it takes less time.

Is the Khao Yai water park suitable for little kids?

Scenical World has a water zone for little kids that's separate from the big rides — they can play in the shallow water, but they need an adult with them the whole time, plus sunscreen, hats and a change of clothes, since the sun is fairly strong. The bigger rides usually have height restrictions.

Is driving around Khao Yai with kids dangerous?

The stretch of Thanarat Road where the farms and water park sit is flat and easy to drive. But once you go up into the national park, the road winds and wildlife really does cross it, especially around dawn and dusk — drive slowly, leave space, never feed the wild animals, and bring motion-sickness medicine for the kids.

What season is best for Khao Yai with the family?

The cool season (Nov–Jan) has lovely weather but is very crowded — accommodation fills up fast and prices rise, so book ahead. The rainy season (Jun–Oct) is green and the waterfalls look great, but paths in the park get slippery, so take care. If you can avoid long weekends, the trip is more relaxed and the traffic is lighter.
