The nice thing about Khao Yai for families is that the attractions are clustered in stretches along Thanarat Road (the road up to the national park), so a short drive is all it takes to switch from one activity to the next. Little kids don't have to sit in the car long enough to get cranky. This plan leans on things kids actually take part in — feeding animals and playing in the water — mixed with meals and cafés where the parents get a breather too.
Plan ahead before you go
Khao Yai gets very busy on long weekends and through the cool season (Nov–Jan). The good places to stay fill up fast and prices climb, so if you're going then, book your accommodation several weeks ahead. Many of the water parks and farms let you buy tickets online in advance, which is usually cheaper than paying at the gate.
Day 1 — Farm Chokchai and animal feeding
Dairy farm, sheep farm, cowboys
Animals and little kids
Before feeding sheep or goats, tell kids to keep their hand flat and lay the feed out so their fingers don't get nipped, and pack hand sanitiser to use after touching any animal. The farm animals are tame but fairly large, so little kids should always have an adult right next to them.
Book the activities in your Khao Yai trip ahead
Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want — prices and availability are shown live on each site.
Day 2 — Water park and nature
Water play and mountain views
If your family has a third day or wants to add some nature, try driving up into Khao Yai National Park for half a day. Entry for Thai visitors is 40 THB for adults and 20 THB for kids, plus 30 THB for the car. A walk that kids can handle is Haew Suwat Waterfall, which isn't far from the car park — but build in extra time for the winding mountain drive.
What to watch out for driving in Khao Yai
The roads inside Khao Yai National Park wind and climb, and wildlife like barking deer, gaur and wild elephants really do cross the road — especially around dawn and dusk. Drive slowly and leave enough room to brake in time. If your kids get carsick easily, bring medicine and a bag. The stretch of Thanarat Road outside the park (where the farms and water park are) is flat and much easier to drive.
- Drive slowly inside the park — wildlife crosses the road, don't honk to scare them off, and never feed wild animals.
- Allow extra travel time — traffic backs up from the entrance on long weekends, so leaving early means fewer cars.
- Pack for the kids — a change of clothes, sunscreen, hats, drinking water and snacks, since most activities are outdoors.
- Check opening days — some attractions close on certain weekdays (Primo Piazza, for example, closes Tuesday–Wednesday), so call or check their page before you go.
Family-friendly Khao Yai spots that kids love
Beyond the three main spots in the plan, there are several more family places along Thanarat Road. If your family has extra time or wants to swap the programme around, we've picked the ones where kids genuinely get involved, with rough entry prices.
Farm Chokchai
A dairy farm that's been part of Khao Yai for ages. The tour ride takes you around the farm, where you can milk a cow, bottle-feed calves, and watch cowboy and sheepdog herding shows. Kids get hands-on at every station.
Sheep Land
A sheep farm where kids can get up close to feed and pet the lambs. The grounds are open fields that are easy to walk, with a café and wool souvenir shop out front.
Scenical World
A water park combined with an amusement park in the hills, with slides, a little-kids' zone and rides — a full day of water play for the kids. Booking online in advance is the better deal.
Primo Piazza
An Italian Tuscan-style village with lots of photo corners, where you can feed sheep, goats and cows. It has its own restaurants and café, and makes a good late-afternoon family photo stop.
Pal Adventure / activities for older kids
An outdoor adventure park for older kids and teens with things like climbing and zip-lining. A good fit if your family has bigger kids who want something more active — check the schedule and minimum height before you go.
Khao Yai National Park (Haew Suwat Waterfall)
If you want to add some nature, head up into the park for half a day. Haew Suwat Waterfall isn't far from the car park and is manageable for kids, but the path gets slippery after rain — take care and hold the kids' hands.
Pick a place to stay that works for kids
The Khao Yai stays families tend to like are resorts with a lawn or a pool for kids to run around, located around Pak Chong or the start of Thanarat Road for a short drive to the farms and water park. See family-friendly options on our Khao Yai accommodation page.
