🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

Koh Chang runs long from north to south, with the west coast strung together as the main eat-and-play zone. Going down the coast you've got White Sand Beach, Klong Prao, Kai Bae, then Lonely Beach, and finally the Bang Bao fishing village at the southern tip. Most of the standout spots cluster along these beaches and you can reach them on foot or by motorbike. We've split the food into three big categories — seafood / Thai restaurants · beach bars · cafes — so you can pick by mood and time of day.

Good to know before you head out to eat

The coastal road on Koh Chang is steep with several hairpin bends, especially the climbs around Kai Bae and Lonely Beach. If you're riding a motorbike at night after a few drinks at a beach bar, take extra care or grab a songthaew (shared pickup) instead. Some restaurants and cafes close for long stretches during low season (roughly May–Oct) — checking their Facebook page or calling ahead is the safer bet.

Seafood: at Bang Bao and on the water

When people think Koh Chang seafood, most picture the Bang Bao fish pier — an old fishing village at the island's southern tip, where restaurants jut out on a wooden jetty so you can eat watching the fishing boats come and go. Another seafood-heavy area is around Klong Prao, with waterfront places that pair dinner with evening firefly tours. Over on the east coast, the Salak Phet–Salak Kok side is a real working fishing community — quieter, and usually cheaper than the beach side.

Ordering seafood without overpaying

At Bang Bao most prices are by weight (per 100g / per kilo), so before you order, ask the price per kilo and have them weigh it in front of you to avoid surprises on the bill. Crab and lobster prices swing with the season — if you're on a budget, steamed fish, shellfish, and regular prawns are far better value.

Beach bars: drinks with the sunset

Koh Chang's west coast faces straight into the sunset, which makes a beach bar the evening activity you shouldn't skip. Each beach has its own character: White Sand Beach is lively with live music, Kai Bae sits in the sweet spot — neither dead nor rowdy — while Lonely Beach is the real party zone, with fire shows, reggae, and cheap drinks.

White Sand Beach · live music

Sabay / White Sand Beach bar strip

White Sand Beach is the beach-bar strip with live music and fire shows after dark. It's a good spot to sip a cocktail through the sunset and then carry on with a band. Beers start around 100–150 THB, cocktails around 180–250 THB.

White Sand Beach · sunset

15 Palms Beach Bar

A White Sand Beach bar near KC Grande where you sit right on the sand for a lovely sunset. Cocktails around 220–320 THB, and a more relaxed vibe than the party strip.

Lonely Beach · party

Stone Free / Himmel (Lonely Beach)

Lonely Beach is the party hub. Stone Free is known for reggae and live music, while bar spots like Himmel run fire shows and DJs. Beers around 90–130 THB, buckets around 250–400 THB.

Bang Bao · clifftop view

Cliff Cottage Sunset Bar (Bang Bao)

A clifftop bar-restaurant at the Bang Bao viewpoint, looking out over the surrounding islands and a full-on sunset. Better suited to couples or anyone who wants a quiet seat over a party.

An honest word on the beach bars

The fire shows and parties at Lonely Beach are fun, but the sand gets dark and crowded — keep your valuables close. Drink prices at bars right on the sand are often several times what you'd pay at a convenience store, so if you're watching the budget, have your first round at a shop and save the bars for later. And heading home late, the roads are dark and steep — a songthaew is safer than riding yourself.

Cafes: on the hills, by the beach, and for coffee lovers

Koh Chang keeps adding cafes — from specialty coffee shops roasting their own Thai beans to hilltop spots with views over the whole island. They're perfect for a mid-morning stop after breakfast, or to dodge the afternoon heat before another swim. Most are clustered around Kai Bae, Klong Prao, and White Sand Beach.

FAQ

Where's the best place to eat seafood on Koh Chang?

The Bang Bao fishing village at the south of the island is the main seafood area — the well-known spots are Chao Lay Seafood, Chowlay, and Ruan Thai, all built out over the water on the fish pier. Around Klong Prao there's Phu Talay and Jae Eiw, which are cheaper. If you want a genuine fishing-community feel with fewer people, cross over to Salak Phet on the east coast.

How much does seafood cost on Koh Chang?

At Bang Bao, a seafood meal runs around 300–400 THB per person, while the one-plate Thai spots around Klong Prao–Kai Bae start at roughly 80–200 THB per person. Crab and lobster prices move with the season, so for anything priced by weight, ask the per-kilo price and have it weighed in front of you before you order.

Which Koh Chang beach bars are the most fun?

Lonely Beach is the real party zone, with fire shows, reggae, and cheap drinks at Stone Free and Himmel. White Sand Beach is better for watching the sunset with live music. If you'd rather have something quiet with a clifftop view, try Cliff Cottage Sunset Bar at Bang Bao.

Which Koh Chang cafes are worth a visit?

For the views, go for hilltop cafes like Altitude 79 (a 270-degree view) and The Mount Café at Kai Bae. For serious coffee, try Coffee Routine, which does V60/AeroPress with Thai beans. And if you want to work by the beach, there's WARI Coffee at Klong Prao.

Are Koh Chang restaurants open during low season?

They are, but not all of them. Around May–Oct there's rain and rough surf, and some restaurants and accommodation — especially around Lonely Beach and Bang Bao — close for long stretches. If you're coming then, check their Facebook page or call ahead, and skip the island-hopping snorkel trips if the weather's bad.
