Koh Chang runs long from north to south, with the west coast strung together as the main eat-and-play zone. Going down the coast you've got White Sand Beach, Klong Prao, Kai Bae, then Lonely Beach, and finally the Bang Bao fishing village at the southern tip. Most of the standout spots cluster along these beaches and you can reach them on foot or by motorbike. We've split the food into three big categories — seafood / Thai restaurants · beach bars · cafes — so you can pick by mood and time of day.
Good to know before you head out to eat
The coastal road on Koh Chang is steep with several hairpin bends, especially the climbs around Kai Bae and Lonely Beach. If you're riding a motorbike at night after a few drinks at a beach bar, take extra care or grab a songthaew (shared pickup) instead. Some restaurants and cafes close for long stretches during low season (roughly May–Oct) — checking their Facebook page or calling ahead is the safer bet.
Seafood: at Bang Bao and on the water
When people think Koh Chang seafood, most picture the Bang Bao fish pier — an old fishing village at the island's southern tip, where restaurants jut out on a wooden jetty so you can eat watching the fishing boats come and go. Another seafood-heavy area is around Klong Prao, with waterfront places that pair dinner with evening firefly tours. Over on the east coast, the Salak Phet–Salak Kok side is a real working fishing community — quieter, and usually cheaper than the beach side.
Chao Lay Seafood Bang Bao
A longtime favorite on the Bang Bao pier, open for decades, built around ingredients straight off the boat. Curry-powder stir-fried crab, grilled prawns, and steamed fish with lime are the headliners. You're seated by the sea at the end of the pier — great for groups or families.
Chowlay Seafood
A big place in the middle of the Bang Bao pier with live seafood tanks to pick from. It's been around a while and stays consistent, and on weekdays it doesn't get too packed. A reliable choice for a seafood meal with a fish-pier view.
Ruan Thai Seafood
Another large restaurant at the far end of the Bang Bao pier, done up in wooden Thai-house style with a section out over the water. Comfortable seating that suits families or couples, with a standard Thai seafood menu cooked with a southern hand.
Phu Talay, Klong Prao
A waterfront seafood spot around Klong Prao, with wooden-slat seating over the water. Some evenings there's a firefly tour straight from the restaurant. The Thai-seafood dishes are made fresh and nicely seasoned — good for a relaxed dinner.
Jae Eiw Seafood
A local favorite around Klong Prao with fresh seafood at friendly prices. Blue crab, prawns, shellfish, and fish cooked home-style — tasty and dependable. Plenty of people rate it the best value seafood in the area.
Friend Seafood, Kai Bae
A small, locally run seafood place near the 7-Eleven at Kai Bae Beach. Nothing fancy, but the seafood is fresh and the prices are good — an easy stop for lunch or dinner between beach time.
Kati Culinary, Klong Prao
A Thai restaurant that makes its own curry pastes, with deep, homemade flavors. The curries and stir-fries are done well, and the setting is leafy and shaded — a good option if you want proper Thai food rather than seafood alone.
Tiger Hut, Klong Prao
A laid-back, backpacker-style Thai spot right on Klong Prao beach. The one-plate Thai dishes are tasty and easy on the wallet, and you can sit for ages catching the sea breeze — good for budget travelers.
Salak Phet Seafood
A big seafood restaurant on the east coast in the Salak Phet fishing community, with wide bay views and seafood fresh off the local boats. A bit far from the beach zone, but the atmosphere is the real deal and the prices are good — ideal if you want to escape the crowds.
Nong Anat, Klong Prao
A roadside spot serving southern curries and quick made-to-order dishes — bold southern flavors at budget prices. Good for a no-fuss meal during the day when you don't feel like sitting down for long.
Ordering seafood without overpaying
At Bang Bao most prices are by weight (per 100g / per kilo), so before you order, ask the price per kilo and have them weigh it in front of you to avoid surprises on the bill. Crab and lobster prices swing with the season — if you're on a budget, steamed fish, shellfish, and regular prawns are far better value.

Beach bars: drinks with the sunset
Koh Chang's west coast faces straight into the sunset, which makes a beach bar the evening activity you shouldn't skip. Each beach has its own character: White Sand Beach is lively with live music, Kai Bae sits in the sweet spot — neither dead nor rowdy — while Lonely Beach is the real party zone, with fire shows, reggae, and cheap drinks.
Sabay / White Sand Beach bar strip
White Sand Beach is the beach-bar strip with live music and fire shows after dark. It's a good spot to sip a cocktail through the sunset and then carry on with a band. Beers start around 100–150 THB, cocktails around 180–250 THB.
15 Palms Beach Bar
A White Sand Beach bar near KC Grande where you sit right on the sand for a lovely sunset. Cocktails around 220–320 THB, and a more relaxed vibe than the party strip.
Stone Free / Himmel (Lonely Beach)
Lonely Beach is the party hub. Stone Free is known for reggae and live music, while bar spots like Himmel run fire shows and DJs. Beers around 90–130 THB, buckets around 250–400 THB.
Cliff Cottage Sunset Bar (Bang Bao)
A clifftop bar-restaurant at the Bang Bao viewpoint, looking out over the surrounding islands and a full-on sunset. Better suited to couples or anyone who wants a quiet seat over a party.
An honest word on the beach bars
The fire shows and parties at Lonely Beach are fun, but the sand gets dark and crowded — keep your valuables close. Drink prices at bars right on the sand are often several times what you'd pay at a convenience store, so if you're watching the budget, have your first round at a shop and save the bars for later. And heading home late, the roads are dark and steep — a songthaew is safer than riding yourself.
Cafes: on the hills, by the beach, and for coffee lovers
Koh Chang keeps adding cafes — from specialty coffee shops roasting their own Thai beans to hilltop spots with views over the whole island. They're perfect for a mid-morning stop after breakfast, or to dodge the afternoon heat before another swim. Most are clustered around Kai Bae, Klong Prao, and White Sand Beach.
Altitude 79 Coffee
A hilltop cafe with a 270-degree view over both forest and sea. The standout drink is the iced orange espresso, and the view is worth the climb — great for photos and sitting in the cool breeze.
The Mount Café
A cafe on a hillside above the Kai Bae valley, with a panoramic view that's a popular photo spot. The piccolo latte and the desserts are done well, and it's noticeably cooler up here than down below.
Fig Cafe
A green garden cafe at Kai Bae serving single-origin coffee and vegetarian brunch plates. Shady and good for lingering — ideal if you're after something clean or want to skip the fried stuff.
Coffee Routine Koh Chang
A tiny slow-bar kiosk around Kai Bae stocking several single-origin Thai beans, doing V60 and AeroPress for the pour-over crowd. Cash only — for people who take their coffee seriously.
WARI Coffee
A cafe on Klong Prao beach where you can sit in air-con or on a beanbag on the sand. The Americano is strong, and there are tables you can work at — good for laptop types who want to be near the sea.
Reflect Cafe & Bar
A roadside spot in the White Sand Beach zone with skilled baristas and several coffee blends. It's a cafe by day, and come evening there are cocktails and a pool table — all in one place for an easy hang.
A day-by-day eating plan
If you're on Koh Chang for two nights, here's an idea for fitting in seafood, cafes, and beach bars without driving circles around the whole island.
