White Sand Beach is the most developed beach on Koh Chang. Locals named it literally because the sand at the north end is whiter and finer than on the other beaches. The strip follows the island's main road and packs in beachfront resorts, restaurants, massage shops, convenience stores and bars that stay open late. It suits first-timers who want everything within reach — no need to drive anywhere far when food and fun are all on one beach.
White Sand Beach Has 3 Zones — Pick the One That Fits You
White Sand Beach isn't the same end to end. Understanding how it splits before you book makes it much easier to land where you actually want to be.
- North zone (far end) — the prettiest sand on the whole beach, with small guesthouses tucked into the hillside. Quieter and more laid-back, but the road into this zone is very steep — a downhill stretch you need to take care on.
- Middle zone — the heart of the beach. Restaurants, bars, shops, convenience stores and the tour-boat pier all cluster here. It's the liveliest at night, with fire shows, seafood barbecue and a long stretch you can stroll along the sand.
- South zone — carries on from the middle and gets a little quieter, with budget-friendly stays scattered about. It's a short walk back to the middle zone, so it's good for travellers who want to save money but stay near the food.
A Word on the Roads
The roads around Koh Chang are steep with several hairpin bends, especially the descent into the north zone of White Sand Beach. If it's your first time on a motorbike here, use low gear going downhill and don't grab the front brake hard — plenty of beginners come off on these slopes. If you're not confident, take a songthaew (shared pickup taxi) instead.

White Sand Beach Stays for Every Budget
This beach has everything from bungalows in the low thousands of baht to beachfront resorts with pools. The prices below are rough high-season figures (Nov–Apr); off-season they drop a lot, but some places close for renovation or shut for the whole low season — check with the property before you book.
KC Grande Resort
The biggest and most complete beachfront resort on this beach, with a private beachfront of 200 metres or more, rooms in the main building and beach villas right on the sand. Good for couples and families who want full comfort.
Sangtawan Resort
Modern air-conditioned bungalows in a central spot, an easy walk to the restaurants. A mid-to-upper option that feels better value than the five-star prices.
Kacha Resort
A family favourite with two swimming pools and plenty of space for kids to run around. Right on the beach, with its own on-site restaurant.
Erawan Hotel
Stylish rooms on the road side, with a rooftop pool looking out to sea — cross the road and you're on the beach. Fair value if you don't mind not sleeping right on the sand.
Mac Resort
Central on the beach, with a pool, and an easy walk to the bars and restaurants. A solid middle-of-the-road choice that nails the location.
White Sand Beach Resort
Older bungalows, but sitting on the prettiest stretch of sand on the island at the far north end. Quiet atmosphere — good if you'd rather have a nicer beach than a newer room.
Buffalo Bill's (rooms above the steakhouse)
Rooms above the well-known steakhouse, easy on the wallet and right in the thick of the food and nightlife. Good for solo travellers or couples who care most about location.
SP Place / Baan Sai Khao
Clean motel-style rooms starting in the low thousands of baht. Good value if you just need somewhere to sleep before heading out all day.
Island Lodge / Pingpong's House
Guesthouses on the inland side, about 300 m from the beach — the cheapest in the area and good for backpackers on a tight budget. Still an easy walk to the sand.
Restaurants & Cafes Worth Trying
White Sand Beach has food from all over within one walkable strip — from Thai cooking on the sand and grilled seafood to Western, Indian and Turkish, plus a few good coffee cafes.
Kin Dee / Kapow
Thai and Western food across from Ban Pu Resort. Good cooking at reasonable prices — popular with both locals and travellers.
Buffalo Bill's
Steaks and Thai food, one of the beach's long-running spots, with live music on some nights. Good for a proper dinner.
Taste of India
Bold Indian food with rich, slow-cooked curries — a good change of pace from all the seafood.
Chu Jai Cafe
A good-coffee cafe that also sells handmade goods. Relaxed atmosphere, nice for a midday break.
Sahngad Cafe & Camping
A viewpoint cafe up on a hill looking out to the sea and the sunset — worth a stop for photos in the late afternoon.
Beachfront seafood barbecue
At night several spots fire up grills for prawns, shellfish, crab and fish on the sand. Pick it fresh, sold by the kilo — confirm the price clearly before you order.
Beach Bars and the Nightlife
White Sand Beach has the busiest nightlife on Koh Chang. Several bars right on the sand run fire shows every night — sit with your feet in the sand, listen to live music, and the drink prices are fair, not the kind you pay on the bigger Andaman islands.
- Sabuy Bar — the biggest beach bar on the island, with a fire show every night. A popular meet-up spot.
- 15 Palms — a beachfront spot that shows live sports, so you can eat, drink and catch the football.
- Tapas Bar — a long-running beach bar with a relaxed vibe, good for settling in for the evening.
- The White Elephant — a Scandinavian sports bar with the biggest beer selection on the island, plus a buffet on Wednesday and Sunday nights. Always packed.
On Beachfront Drinks
The beach bars set their tables right on the sand, and the seating shrinks when the tide comes in — if you want a table near the water, get there before sunset. And if you're walking back to your place late, watch out for the dark road and motorbikes: there are no street lights along the whole stretch.
Water Activities and Island-Hopping Snorkeling Tours
White Sand Beach is a convenient starting point for snorkeling tours. The pier and tour booths are in the middle zone, so you can walk over and book yourself, or have your accommodation book for you. Most tours include free hotel pickup and drop-off.
- Kayak / SUP rental — available along the beach from around ฿100. Paddle close to shore to see the shallow coral.
- Full-day snorkeling tour — a wooden boat takes you to Koh Rang and a few nearby islands, three stops, around ฿800–900 per person including transfers and lunch on board. Departs Bang Bao around 9:30 am and returns in the evening.
- Half-day to full-day speedboat — faster, heading to Koh Wai, Koh Kloom and Koh Laoya, around ฿800–1,100 per person.
- Scuba diving — several dive shops run courses, and the dive sites around Koh Rang are well regarded, with clearer water than the shallow spots.
Honest Note: Season and Safety
The island-hopping snorkeling boats mainly run in high season (Nov–Apr). During the monsoon (May–Oct) the sea is choppy and windy, and many tours are cancelled or run unpredictably — always check the weather, and don't force a boat trip if the swell is strong. The Koh Rang national park fee is around ฿200 for adults / ฿100 for children, separate from the tour price. Before booking, ask exactly which spots you'll visit and the full price, because each roadside booth runs different deals.
The Best Time to Visit
Koh Chang's high season is Nov–Apr — calm sea, clear water and good sun, ideal for snorkeling and sitting at the beach bars. Over New Year and long weekends it gets crowded and stays cost more, so skip the long weekends if you want better prices and fewer people. In low season (May–Oct) it rains heavily and the sea is rough; accommodation gets much cheaper, but some resorts and restaurants close for a long stretch and the boat tours may not run.
