Koh Lipe has three main beaches, all within a 15–20 minute walk of each other. Pattaya Beach is the main beach in the centre of the island where the speedboats dock, with a long row of bars and restaurants. Sunrise Beach, on the east side, is a longer, quieter stretch that's great for sunrises but still has bars open in the evening. Sunset Beach, a small cove on the west side, is the quietest of the three and the spot many people rate as the best sunset view on the island. And the Walking Street that connects Pattaya and Sunrise Beach is where you'll find the live-music bars and cocktail spots.
Read this first — Koh Lipe is seasonal
Koh Lipe hits monsoon season roughly from mid-May to October: rough seas, big swells, and a lot of speedboat runs from Pak Bara cancelled. A number of guesthouses and beach bars close for the whole season. If you're planning a trip in this window, always check with your accommodation and the pier first to confirm they're open and the boats are still running. The peak season, when everything is fully open, is roughly November to April.
10 Koh Lipe beach bars worth knowing
These are ordered by atmosphere and location, not a strict ranking of which is best — each one stands out for a different reason. Some you go to for the view, some for the fire show, some for the music. The prices listed are ballpark figures from reviews and can shift up or down with the season and time of day.
Zodiac See Sun Bar (Sunrise Beach)
A popular beach bar at the western end of Sunrise Beach, with cushions and pillows laid out on the sand so you can stretch out comfortably. There's a fire show most nights, and on some nights a bigger party — it's the liveliest of the Sunrise Beach bars. Good for anyone who wants both the view and a bit of buzz.
Happy Mojito (Sunset Beach)
The only bar serving on Sunset Beach, set on wooden stilts against the cliff with an unobstructed view out to the sea and the sunset. It's the sunset spot many people call the best on the island. The standout drink is the mojito the place is named after. Quiet atmosphere — good for couples or anyone who just wants to sit in peace.
Sea La Vie Bar (Sunrise Beach)
A small, easygoing bar on Sunrise Beach, best known for sipping a beer at high tide when the waves come almost up to your chair. There's a happy hour with a buy-5-get-1-free deal and friendly prices. Good for anyone who wants to sit and chill rather than party.
Lipe Bar (Pattaya Beach)
A beach bar on Pattaya Beach with an evening fire show and a fun night-time vibe. Being on the main beach, it does get busier, but it's an easy walk from a lot of accommodation. Good for anyone who wants to catch a fire show without walking all the way over to Sunrise Beach.
Pattaya Song (Pattaya Beach)
A beach bar on Pattaya Beach known for the most wallet-friendly prices of the beach bars — beer is noticeably cheaper than elsewhere. It also does iced coffee. Good for budget travellers who want to sit beachfront and watch the boats come and go in the evening.
Castaway Bar (Sunrise Beach)
The bar at Castaway Resort on Sunrise Beach, with a covered wooden deck where you can sip a cocktail and look out over the long stretch of beach. The vibe is relaxed and resort-style. Good for anyone who wants shaded seating and a well-made cocktail.
Elephant Beach Bar (Sunrise Beach)
The beachfront bar of Lipe Beach Resort on Sunrise Beach, and another popular drinking spot on this beach. Easygoing atmosphere, and you can walk straight off the sand to sit down. A good stop while strolling along the beach in the evening.
Elephant Coffee House & Bar (Walking Street)
On Walking Street near Pattaya Beach, known for live music at night. It does both beer and cocktails, and the atmosphere is livelier than the beach bars. Good for anyone who wants to hear a live band after dinner.
Reggae Home Bar (near Walking Street)
A small reggae bar tucked just off Walking Street, known for its chilled tunes, relaxed atmosphere and well-made cocktails. It's the kind of spot reggae fans settle into for the long haul.
OMG! Sports Bar (Sunrise Beach / Walking Street)
A sports-bar-style spot with comfy beanbags that shows films or live broadcasts in the evening, with a good range of drinks. Good for anyone who wants to catch a match or a movie over a casual beer.

Which beach is best for the sunset
Koh Lipe sits so that the sun sets over Sunset Beach on the west side, so if you're set on a full, unobstructed sunset, head to the Sunset side. Pattaya Beach, which faces southwest, also gets a lovely sunset and is easier to walk to — handy if you're staying around the centre of the island.
- Sunset Beach — the fullest, most unobstructed sunset view, and the quietest, with Happy Mojito as the only bar on the beach. It's about a 10–15 minute walk from Pattaya Beach along a cliffside path.
- Pattaya Beach — a lovely sunset and the most convenient, with a long row of bars to choose from. Good if you don't want to walk far.
- Sunrise Beach — technically the sunrise beach, but the bar atmosphere is good in the evening and there are fire shows. A good place to carry on after the sunset.
Walking to Sunset Beach after dark
The path from Pattaya Beach to Sunset Beach runs along the cliff, and parts of it get dark and slippery at night. Bring a torch or use your phone light, and leave yourself enough time to walk back before it's pitch dark — it's safer that way.
Drink responsibly — enjoy Koh Lipe with a clear conscience
The beach bars are part of what makes Koh Lipe special, but the island is small and the environment is fragile. Drinking responsibly keeps your trip ending well and leaves no trace behind on the island.
- Things cost more on the island than on the mainland — everything is shipped in by boat, so beer and cocktails are pricier than in town. Carry extra cash, since many places only take cash and the island's few ATMs charge high fees.
- Pace yourself so you can walk back — there are no vehicles on the island, and walking on sand and along the cliff path in the dark takes a clear head. Drink in moderation and you'll be safer walking yourself home.
- Take your rubbish with you — don't leave glasses or bottles on the beach — waste management on the island is limited, and litter left behind often ends up in the sea. Carrying it back to a bin makes a real difference for the island.
- Don't step on or collect coral and rocks — even the pretty stones on the beach should be left where they are. Taking coral or rocks home as a souvenir is against the rules and damages the ecosystem.
- If you have a snorkelling trip the next day — don't drink heavily the night before, and always check the weather and safety conditions with your operator. When the seas are rough, many snorkelling tours are cancelled — for your own safety, trust your guide's advice.
