Koh Lipe Food Guide
Seafood, Walking Street & Beach Bars

Koh Lipe is a tiny island in the southern Andaman, about as far south as Thailand goes, but the food scene is bigger than you'd expect. There's grilled seafood right on the sand, a Walking Street running across the middle of the island, and laid-back beach bars with fire shows after dark. We've picked spots that are actually still open and given honest ballpark prices, plus a few heads-ups — because everything on the island runs noticeably pricier than on the mainland.

Koh Lipe sits inside Tarutao National Park in Satun province, and the island is small enough to cross on foot in 20–30 minutes. The heart of it is the Walking Street, the single pedestrian lane that links Pattaya Beach on one side to near Sunrise Beach on the other. Almost all the restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops line this strip, while the sea-view spots are spread along Pattaya, Sunrise, and Sunset beaches.

Straight up — island prices

Everything on Koh Lipe has to come over by boat from the mainland, so food runs roughly 30–60% more than in town. Bottled water is 15–25 THB, a bottle of beer 100–140 THB, and seafood is priced by weight. Check the price per 100g/kilo before you order so the bill doesn't surprise you.

Fresh seafood — grilled and made to order

Koh Lipe's big draw is seafood that came off the boat the same day. Many places set out trays of fish, prawns, squid, and shellfish out front so you can pick, then weigh it for the price. You choose how it's cooked — grilled, barbecued, steamed with lime, or stir-fried. You'll see a lot of sea bass, grouper, and king mackerel, while lobster shows up seasonally and the price climbs with size.

How to pick seafood worth your money

Look for clear eyes, bright red gills, and firm flesh on prawns and squid. Ask the price per 100g or per kilo before it goes on the scale, and stand and watch the weighing to be sure. Lobster prices jump fast with size — if you're on a budget, sea bass or squid will stretch further.

Walking Street — graze the whole strip

Koh Lipe's Walking Street is busiest from early evening on, when the shops light up, prop out their menu boards, and bits of live music start. It's about a 10–15 minute walk end to end, lined with seafood and Thai restaurants, wood-fired pizza, crepe and roti stalls, plus dessert and coffee shops. It's perfect for a wander after dinner, stopping to nibble as you go.

On Walking Street

Paolo's Italian Pizza

Thin, crisp wood-fired pizza, open late. Good for a night when you want a break from seafood. A pie runs around ฿250–400.

On Walking Street

Nee Papaya / Papaya Mom

A popular Thai spot on the street with seafood, grills, and live music in the evening. Lively atmosphere.

Roadside sweets

Roti, crepe & dessert stalls

Little roadside stalls selling banana-and-egg roti, crepes, toast, and ice cream for ฿40–80. Good for finishing off a meal.

  • Come before peak — the popular places pack out from 7–9pm. If you want a good view table or a sought-after spot, getting there early makes it easier.
  • Carry cash — many of the small places take cash only, and ATMs on the island are few and charge steep fees. Withdraw on the mainland and bring extra.
  • Try several spots in one meal — order small plates from a few places and graze as you walk. You'll sample more than sitting at one table.

Beach bars — chill out with a fire show

After sunset, Pattaya and Sunrise beaches turn into a bar zone, with places laying out cushions, beanbags, and low tables on the sand, playing music and running fire shows most nights from around 8:30pm. Cocktails mostly land around ฿180–300, some bars have cheaper cocktail deals, and beer is ฿100–140 a bottle. The vibe is mellow rather than the full-on party of the bigger islands.

Watch the fire show safely

Fire shows are fun, but sparks can fly. Sit a sensible distance back from the circle, keep small kids away, and don't try the fire gear yourself unless you know what you're doing. Tidy up your glasses and trash — this beach is inside a national park, so help keep it clean.

When the island opens and closes (important)

Koh Lipe runs on a season. High season is roughly November to April, when the sea is calm and the restaurants and bars are all open. During the monsoon, around May to October, the sea gets rough, boats from Pak Bara and the mainland may cut back or stop, and many hotels, restaurants, and bars close for a long stretch. If you're going off-season, always check the weather, the boat schedule, and call ahead to your hotel and any restaurant first.

  • High season (Nov–Apr) — restaurants and bars all open, clear water, the best time for eating, sightseeing, and snorkeling.
  • Monsoon (May–Oct) — many places close, boats cut back; check the weather and safety before you travel.
  • Snorkeling/boat trips — always check the wind-and-wave forecast and listen to your guide; don't push out if the sea is rough.
  • Protect the sea — don't touch or take coral and rocks, don't feed the fish, and carry your trash back to shore.
