Krabi 2 Days 1 Night Ao Nang–Railay–Four Islands Tour

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

The nice thing about Krabi is that most of the highlights sit around Ao Nang, so staying in one place lets you cover nearly everything without switching hotels. This 2-day 1-night plan suits anyone who lands at Krabi Airport late morning on day one and flies home in the evening on day two. If you arrive late at night or leave early, just shift the activities to match.

Before you go

Book the Four Islands tour 1–2 days ahead, especially in high season (Nov–Apr), because morning slots fill up fast. Also check the tide table, because "Talay Waek" — the Separated Sea — only shows its sandbar clearly at low tide. At high tide you'll just see water.

Day 1 — Ao Nang + Railay + Phra Nang Cave

Keep day one easy so you can ease into beach mode. Check in at Ao Nang, stroll along the beach, then take a longtail boat over to Railay in the afternoon. Railay is a headland that roads can't reach — you can only get there by boat — which is exactly why it stays quiet and rugged.

Day 1

Ao Nang to Railay

11:00
Land at Krabi Airport, transfer to Ao NangA taxi or minibus into Ao Nang runs about 150–300 THB/person and takes roughly 30–40 min.
12:30
Check in around Ao Nang, drop your bagsStaying along the main Ao Nang strip puts the beach, restaurants, and the pier all within walking distance.
13:00
Lunch around Ao Nang's main streetSeafood spots and made-to-order joints line the whole street. Try tom yum goong, fried sea bass, or stop by a dim sum shop like Sung Kopi, which steams fresh and opens morning to evening.
14:30
Catch a longtail from Ao Nang Beach to RailayA longtail from Ao Nang to Railay is about 100 THB one way, 200 THB return. Boats leave once they have a full load, and the ride is around 15 min.
15:00
Walk Railay West, then on to Phra Nang CaveIt's about a 10-min walk along the cliff base from Railay West to Phra Nang. White sand, clear water, and a Phra Nang shrine that locals come to pay respect at. No entry fee.
16:00
Watch the climbers / hike up to the Railay viewpoint (if you're up for it)Railay is a mecca for rock climbers. The trail up to the viewpoint is fairly steep and slippery, so wear shoes with good grip. Skip it if it's been raining.
17:30
Boat back to Ao Nang for sunsetEvening boats can take longer to fill, so leave some buffer. The light this time of day is gorgeous for shooting the cliffs as dark silhouettes against the sky.
19:00
Seafood dinner along Ao Nang BeachBeachfront spots range from chilled-out places with live music to serious seafood houses. Try hoi chak teen (sea snails), steamed blue crab, and grilled prawns — order by the kilo and share, it works out better value.

What to know about the boats

Ao Nang–Railay longtails don't run on a fixed schedule — they wait until the boat is full before leaving. If your group is small you might wait a while or have to pay extra to charter. When the swell picks up (usually monsoon season, May–Oct) boats may stop running or get hard to board, so check the sea conditions first.

Day 2 — Four Islands & Talay Waek

The highlight of this plan is the Four Islands tour, the classic Krabi day trip. You leave Ao Nang in the morning, swim, snorkel over coral, then walk the "Talay Waek" sandbar that links Chicken Island, Koh Mor, and Koh Tup together at low tide. The tour includes lunch and pickup/drop-off at your Ao Nang hotel.

Day 2

Four Islands tour, then fly home

08:00
Early breakfast at the hotel / check out and pack upYou can leave your bags at reception and take only the essentials on the boat. Wearing your swimsuit from the hotel saves time.
09:00
Tour van picks you up from the hotel to the pierMost join-in tours include pickup from hotels in the Ao Nang–Noppharat Thara area. Confirm your pickup time with the operator the night before.
09:30
Set off, starting at Koh Poda for a swim and photosKoh Poda has fine white sand and shallow, clear water — great for an easy swim, with a tall limestone rock as a backdrop.
11:00
Snorkel over coral around Chicken IslandTours usually hand out snorkel masks; ask if you'd like a life jacket. Some spots get schools of fish coming in close — just be careful not to step on the coral.
12:30
Lunch on the island (included in the tour)Usually a simple boxed meal or basic buffet with fruit and drinking water. If you have allergies or eat vegetarian, tell the operator ahead of time.
14:00
Highlight: walk the "Talay Waek" sandbarAt low tide the sandbar emerges and links Chicken Island, Koh Mor, and Koh Tup, so you can walk from one island to another through the middle of the sea. It's the shot most people come to Krabi hoping to see.
15:30
Stop at Railay / one last swim before heading backSome programs finish with a stop at Railay. If you already went yesterday, treat it as a bonus chance to sit on the beach again.
16:30
Back at the pier, van drops you at the hotelShower and change, grab your stored bags, and give yourself at least 1.5 hours to reach the airport before your flight.
18:00
Head to Krabi Airport and fly homeIf your flight is in the evening, there's still plenty of time for dinner around Ao Nang or souvenir shopping at the airport.

Rough budget to prepare

  • Four Islands join-in tour — about 700–800 THB/person by longtail, 800–1,000 THB/person by speedboat (Thai rate), including lunch and hotel pickup/drop-off
  • National park fee — 40 THB for Thais, 400 THB for foreigners (paid on top of the tour price, on site)
  • Ao Nang–Railay longtail — about 100 THB one way, 200 THB return
  • Airport–Ao Nang transfer — minibus/taxi about 150–300 THB/person
  • Meals — made-to-order dishes 80–150 THB each, a big seafood meal shared works out to about 300–500 THB/person

Straight talk

Tours advertised really cheap (say, 550 THB) usually don't include the park fee yet, and some operators cram the boat full. If you want it comfortable, go with one that reviews well and ask how many people per boat before booking. Speedboats are faster but slam over the swell — if you get seasick easily, a longtail rides smoother.

Which area should you stay in

Most convenient

Ao Nang main strip

Close to the beach, restaurants, and the pier — everything's walkable. Ideal for a 2-day 1-night plan where you don't want to waste time getting around.

Quieter

Noppharat Thara Beach

Just past Ao Nang, quieter and good for anyone who likes calm — but you'll need to take a ride into Ao Nang when you're after food.

Rugged and quiet

Railay

Stay right on Railay if you want to wake up to a quiet beach, but food options are limited and prices run higher. Better for a longer trip than a short plan.

FAQ

Can you see Krabi properly in 2 days and 1 night?

You can, just about, if you focus on Ao Nang. Day one, cross over to Railay and Phra Nang Cave in the afternoon; day two, do the full-day Four Islands tour. That covers the pretty beaches, a longtail ride, and Talay Waek. If you also want Emerald Pool, waterfalls, or Phi Phi, you'll need to stretch it to 3 days and 2 nights.

How much is the Krabi Four Islands tour, and should you book ahead?

The Thai join-in rate is about 700–800 THB by longtail and 800–1,000 THB by speedboat, not including the park fee (40 THB for Thais, 400 THB for foreigners). Book 1–2 days ahead, especially in high season, since morning slots fill up fast.

Can you see Talay Waek all day?

No. Talay Waek is a sandbar that only emerges at low tide. At high tide you'll just see water. A good tour schedules this stop to land right at low tide, but if you want to be sure, check that day's tide table before choosing your slot.

Is a boat the only way to reach Railay?

Yes. Railay is a headland walled in by limestone cliffs with no road in, so the only way there is by longtail from Ao Nang or Noppharat Thara — about 100 THB one way, roughly a 15-min ride.

What time of year is best for a trip like this in Krabi?

High season, November to April, has calm seas, clear skies, and full boat and tour service. May to October is the rainy season with rougher swell, and longtails may not run on some days. If you come this time, keep a backup plan and check the sea conditions each day.
