The nice thing about Krabi is that most of the highlights sit around Ao Nang, so staying in one place lets you cover nearly everything without switching hotels. This 2-day 1-night plan suits anyone who lands at Krabi Airport late morning on day one and flies home in the evening on day two. If you arrive late at night or leave early, just shift the activities to match.
Before you go
Book the Four Islands tour 1–2 days ahead, especially in high season (Nov–Apr), because morning slots fill up fast. Also check the tide table, because "Talay Waek" — the Separated Sea — only shows its sandbar clearly at low tide. At high tide you'll just see water.
Day 1 — Ao Nang + Railay + Phra Nang Cave
Keep day one easy so you can ease into beach mode. Check in at Ao Nang, stroll along the beach, then take a longtail boat over to Railay in the afternoon. Railay is a headland that roads can't reach — you can only get there by boat — which is exactly why it stays quiet and rugged.
Ao Nang to Railay
What to know about the boats
Ao Nang–Railay longtails don't run on a fixed schedule — they wait until the boat is full before leaving. If your group is small you might wait a while or have to pay extra to charter. When the swell picks up (usually monsoon season, May–Oct) boats may stop running or get hard to board, so check the sea conditions first.
Book the activities in your Krabi trip ahead
Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want — prices and availability are shown live on each site.
Day 2 — Four Islands & Talay Waek
The highlight of this plan is the Four Islands tour, the classic Krabi day trip. You leave Ao Nang in the morning, swim, snorkel over coral, then walk the "Talay Waek" sandbar that links Chicken Island, Koh Mor, and Koh Tup together at low tide. The tour includes lunch and pickup/drop-off at your Ao Nang hotel.
Four Islands tour, then fly home
Rough budget to prepare
- Four Islands join-in tour — about 700–800 THB/person by longtail, 800–1,000 THB/person by speedboat (Thai rate), including lunch and hotel pickup/drop-off
- National park fee — 40 THB for Thais, 400 THB for foreigners (paid on top of the tour price, on site)
- Ao Nang–Railay longtail — about 100 THB one way, 200 THB return
- Airport–Ao Nang transfer — minibus/taxi about 150–300 THB/person
- Meals — made-to-order dishes 80–150 THB each, a big seafood meal shared works out to about 300–500 THB/person
Straight talk
Tours advertised really cheap (say, 550 THB) usually don't include the park fee yet, and some operators cram the boat full. If you want it comfortable, go with one that reviews well and ask how many people per boat before booking. Speedboats are faster but slam over the swell — if you get seasick easily, a longtail rides smoother.
Which area should you stay in
Ao Nang main strip
Close to the beach, restaurants, and the pier — everything's walkable. Ideal for a 2-day 1-night plan where you don't want to waste time getting around.
Noppharat Thara Beach
Just past Ao Nang, quieter and good for anyone who likes calm — but you'll need to take a ride into Ao Nang when you're after food.
Railay
Stay right on Railay if you want to wake up to a quiet beach, but food options are limited and prices run higher. Better for a longer trip than a short plan.
