Mookata has been Lampang's go-to dinner for a long time. Most places are a single-price, all-you-can-eat buffet with pork, beef, seafood, meatballs, vegetables and snacks you grab yourself. Some have no time limit, so you can sit as long as you like. If you're a serious beef person, there are also Korean-style grills and à la carte beef spots to choose from. Below we've ordered things by value and how well each suits a particular group — not a fixed ranking of which tastes best, since everyone's palate is different.
Read before you go
The prices we list are rough figures from recent reviews. Buffet spots change prices and promotions often, so check the restaurant's page again before heading out. Many of these open only from evening to late, not during the day.
Lampang mookata & grill-buffet spots locals actually go to
Fah Sai Mookata Lampang
One of the first names Lampang locals think of for mookata. All-you-can-eat with no time limit, loads of options and a punchy dipping sauce. It's packed almost every evening. This is the spot if you just want to eat well and not overthink it.
U Mookata Lampang (behind Central)
An air-conditioned spot behind Central Lampang. All-you-can-eat with no time limit, with beef, pork and seafood all in for one price. No surcharge if you come solo. Good if you want a cool room near the mall.
Yang Fai Buffet Shabu & Hot Pan
You get both shabu and a hot grill pan in one place, so you can grill or simmer however you like. Big menu, prices from around 229 THB. Good for a group that has both grillers and soup people.
Heng Heng Mookata (Ban Fon junction)
Mookata buffet with grilled seafood on the side at an easy price, plus a wide range of snacks. The draw is the group deal — pay for 5 when 6 come — so it's great for a crew. It's near the Ban Fon traffic-light junction on the way into town.
Chaloem Neua Kratha (yes, there's pork too)
For real beef lovers, this is the one. À la carte grilled beef, with marbled marinated cuts, sous-vide beef tongue, rib cap and sesame-oil-marinated pork belly. The marinades are done well and full of flavour. It's at the entrance to Asia Hotel on Boonwat Road, with free parking inside the hotel.
Mookata Na Baan
A homey, laid-back spot. It's old-school charcoal-stove mookata, which a lot of people prefer for the smoky aroma off the coals. Easy on the wallet, and perfect for a chilled night when you don't want to dress up.
PP Moo Joom & Mookata
You get both moo joom (Isan-style hot pot) and mookata in one place, which suits a group where some prefer grilling and some prefer simmering. Broad menu, friendly prices. It's another spot that TAT Lampang has recommended.
Heal Jai Hot Pot & Mookata (riverside)
The selling point is sitting right by the river. All-you-can-eat with no time limit, and prices start really low. Good for a night when you're after a cool breeze and atmosphere more than premium beef.
Hwawon Korean BBQ Buffet
There's a Korean option too. A newly opened Korean-style grill buffet in Lampang town, with Korean-sauce-marinated meats eaten alongside kimchi and side dishes. Good for a younger crowd wanting something different from mookata.
Kaze Yakiniku Lampang
A Japanese-style yakiniku spot in Lampang town, focused on grilling beef plate by plate. Tidier and calmer than your average mookata, so it suits a special meal or a night you want serious beef in a cool room.

How to pick the right spot for the night
- Want to eat your fill, no fuss — Fah Sai Mookata or Heng Heng, all-you-can-eat for just over 100 THB with plenty to graze on all night.
- Coming as a big crew — Heng Heng (come 6, pay 5) or PP Moo Joom, which has both grilling and simmering so everyone gets a say.
- Want a cool room near the mall — U Mookata behind Central, easy parking and you can carry on shopping after.
- Serious about beef — Chaloem Neua Kratha or Kaze Yakiniku, where it's about beef quality over quantity.
- Want the atmosphere — Heal Jai by the river for a cool breeze, or Mookata Na Baan for that charcoal aroma.
How Lampang mookata differs from elsewhere
Most Lampang mookata still keeps the traditional centre-of-table dome — you grill in the middle while broth simmers vegetables and meatballs around the rim. What people mention most often is the punchy jaew dipping sauce and the suki sauce each place makes itself. Some still serve fried snacks and desserts to grab without limit, so a mookata meal here covers savoury and sweet all for one price.
Eat well and eat smart
Start by grilling thin pork first so the fat coats the dome and the meat won't stick, then move on to seafood and thicker cuts. Don't add too much salty stuff to the broth around the rim early on — the longer it simmers, the more it reduces and the saltier it gets.
