Pathum Thani is less than an hour's drive from Bangkok, yet it hides several national-level museums that most people overlook. The big draw is how family-friendly it is: kids get to run around, experiment and learn almost without realising it, while adults get a break from the chaos of the city. We've split this plan into 2 days because each place is large with plenty to see — cramming it all into one day leaves you tired and rushing past things. But if you only have a single day, we've got a way to trim it down at the end.
A few things to know before you go
- Museum closing days — both the NSM and the Agriculture Museum are closed on Mondays. Whatever you do, don't plan to go on a Monday.
- Getting around — driving yourself is by far the easiest here, since the three spots are in different districts (Khlong Luang and Lat Lum Kaeo) and public transport means several transfers.
- What to wear — Wat Chedi Hoi is a temple, so dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered. For the museums, wear something comfortable with good walking shoes, because you'll be on your feet a lot.
- Budget — total entry fees for the whole trip come to roughly 350–400 THB per adult (children, students and seniors get in free or at a discount at several of these spots).
Book the activities in your Pathum Thani trip ahead
Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want — prices and availability are shown live on each site.
Day 1 — Science at the National Science Museum
Give the whole first day to the National Science Museum (NSM) at Technopolis, Khlong 5, in Khlong Luang district. This isn't just one building — it's a group of several buildings on one site: the Science Museum (the tilted cube tower that's the landmark), the Natural History Museum, the Information Technology Museum, and the Rama IX Museum. There's enough to keep you walking and looking all day.

About admission tickets
NSM sells a combined ticket that gets you into every building, around 300 THB for adults. Students, undergraduates and seniors aged 60+ get in free during many periods. Check nsm.or.th again before you go, since promotions and event schedules change with the season.
Day 2 — The King's farming and the seashell temple
The second day is more about soaking things in and is quieter. In the morning, head to the Royal Agriculture Museum (the museum honouring His Majesty the King) on Phahonyothin Road near Nava Nakorn, Khlong Luang. It tells the story of Thai farming life and King Rama IX's Sufficiency Economy philosophy through indoor exhibits and real outdoor crop plots. In the afternoon, close out the trip at Wat Chedi Hoi.
Agriculture Museum → Wat Chedi Hoi
What there is to see at Wat Chedi Hoi
This temple began when a well was dug around 1980 and an enormous amount of ancient oyster shells turned up underground. The abbot then used the shells to build a pagoda, which is what gave the temple its name. Today, besides the seashell pagoda itself, the temple also has a building displaying shell fossils and old artefacts, showing that this area was once under the sea.
- The seashell pagoda — built from real oyster shells, with the layers of shell clearly visible; very photogenic
- Fossil museum — displays of shell remains and the temple's collection
- Fish-feeding spot — by the water inside the temple, great for bringing kids
- Merit-making area — releasing fish, offering alms, a calm atmosphere
If you only have one day
If you can only swing a single day, pick one big museum plus Wat Chedi Hoi, because trying to fit all three means you won't make it round and it gets too tiring. With young kids, do NSM for the morning half then continue to Wat Chedi Hoi in the afternoon. If you're after something calmer with good photos, do the Agriculture Museum in the morning and finish at Wat Chedi Hoi.
The family version
NSM in the morning (touch and experiment) + Wat Chedi Hoi in the afternoon (feed the fish) — kids have fun all day
The quiet version
Agriculture Museum in the morning (walk the rice plots) + Wat Chedi Hoi in the afternoon — nice photos and a little merit-making
Where to stay
If you want to spread it comfortably over 2 days, staying around Rangsit or Khlong Luang is the most convenient, since it sits in the middle of all the spots and has hotels at a range of price points. You can set off early and reach the museums in good time.
