The charm of Pattani's cafés is in the buildings themselves. The old-town area around Anoru, Pattani Phirom and Ramkomut roads is full of Sino-Portuguese shophouses and old Chinese homes that tell the story of a former trading port. Plenty of younger owners have turned these buildings into cafés, keeping the original walls, tiles and old furniture, then adding good coffee and sweets. We start with the cafés in old-town buildings, then move out toward the riverside and the university area.
Read this before you go
Pattani is in Thailand's deep south. The city center and café districts usually feel friendly, but it's worth checking the latest news and safety advisories before every trip. Planning your café crawl for daytime through early evening is more relaxing. Respect the Muslim–Malay culture and dress modestly, especially when walking through the old-town community or near a mosque. Most cafés here are halal or alcohol-free anyway.
The 11 cafés worth stopping for, ranked
Rong Peep
A café inside an old building that used to be Pattani's tin-can factory, keeping all of the original timber frame, old machinery and antique chairs. It has a Chinese-vintage-meets-Thai-Muslim feel you won't find easily elsewhere, with a fusion menu that adapts local dishes into easy-to-eat plates, plus coffee and several desserts. The upper floor has a work-friendly space, and you can photograph it from just about any angle.
Rama Bistro & Cafe
A café in the building of the legendary Rama cinema in central Pattani, renovated into a minimalist–loft bistro café. The two-floor café zone has both coffee and bakery, and the highlight is the 4th-floor rooftop with a city view — a good spot for late morning through afternoon. The old walls and staircase photograph nicely too.
Bester Café & gallery
A newer café in the old-town area decorated in warm green gallery tones — clean-looking, good for chilling and taking photos. There's coffee, toast and cake to choose from, prices start low, and it stays open late, so you can drop in during the day or after you've finished exploring the old town.
Tekkee Coffee
A modern Chinese-style café in green and red tones near the fish-landing pier, close to Chaloem Phrakiat Bridge. The decor mixes vintage touches with several photo corners, serving tea, coffee and bakery. It has a variety of seating zones and makes a good stop while you're out watching riverside fishing life.
Gal Krang Nueang
A minimalist café in the city center in the Anoru area, with clean, simple tones and a focus on coffee and freshly made bakery. It's comfortable and good for people who like a quiet, uncrowded spot — a nice place to rest while you're out exploring the old buildings.
DEEP Cafe & Story
A modern-style café in the Jabang Tikor area, decorated with greenery and plenty of space, with several lounge zones both inside and out. The relaxed atmosphere makes it good for sitting a long time with friends or working, and there's a wide range of drinks and sweets to choose from.
Sa-Mi-Lae Cafe & Relax Space
A loft-style café that has it all — one-plate meals, drinks and desserts made fresh every day. It's ideal for anyone who wants lunch and then coffee in the same place. The atmosphere is as relaxed as the name suggests, and you can settle in for a while.
Follow Me Cafe
A simple loft café with an arty touch, with both indoor and outdoor zones. There's a good variety of drinks and cute-looking sweets, making it a fit for people who like a few nice photo corners without it being over the top. Easy to chill with friends.
Black Blood Roastery
A newly opened café–roastery with plenty of space and a cool black-toned design, made for coffee lovers who want to try the shop's own roasted beans seriously. The atmosphere is different from the old-building cafés — another style to choose from in the city, with lots of seating.
Rama’ Cafe Sai Mor (around PSU Pattani)
Around Prince of Songkla University, Pattani campus (the "Sai Mor" area), there are student cafés scattered across several shops — cheap, open long hours, good for breakfast or working. The vibe is the easy-going one of a university town, and it's a zone where you can try several shops in a single day.
Pattani Riverside Cafés
Lately several cafés and chill-out spots have opened along the Pattani River, coming with water views and a cool evening breeze — good for watching the sunset after you've finished exploring the old town. Places along here change often, so it's worth checking the latest shop pages before you go.

Why Pattani's old-town cafés are special
The Anoru area is the heart of Pattani's old town. It was once a trading port where Chinese, Malay and Thai communities lived side by side, leaving behind Sino-Portuguese shophouses, old Chinese wooden homes and shrines you can wander past all over the district. Many cafés chose these buildings because they wanted to keep the original stories. Step inside and you'll see bare plaster walls, old patterned tiles, wooden doors and pre-war collectibles. Some shops even share the building's history with you. Having a coffee here is a bit like touring a museum at the same time.
- Walk it as a route — Rong Peep, Rama Bistro and Bester are all close together in the old-town area, walkable in half a day, with shophouses to photograph along the way.
- Local sweets with your coffee — many shops have crispy roti, Malay-style khanom jeen, or local desserts. Order them with a black coffee or cha chak to taste the city more clearly.
- Photo corners — old plaster walls, wooden doors, the antique machinery at Rong Peep and the Rama rooftop are popular spots. Earth or vintage tones suit the shops.
- Best timing — late morning to afternoon has nice light and the shops aren't packed yet. Many old-town cafés close early (around 5–6 pm), so plan with extra time.
Café-hopping tips
Some small cafés in old buildings have limited seating and make things fresh, so certain desserts or bakery items sell out fast. If you have your heart set on a particular shop, check its page or call to confirm the latest hours first, since small shops may change their closing days on their own. Carry some cash too, as a few shops still don't take bank transfer or card.
