This plan suits couples who want atmosphere more than chaos. We've ordered everything to follow the light of the day: head up high in the late afternoon to catch the breeze, watch the sunset in the early evening, then follow it with a good meal by the sea or up on a rooftop. Most of the spots we picked are over on the Pratumnak and Jomtien side, which is quieter and more private than central Pattaya — a better fit for a couples' trip. And if you do want to swing by Pattaya's nightlife district, we've left some notes on staying sensible at the end of the article.
Why Pattaya works for sunsets and seaside dinners
Because Pattaya Bay stretches out facing west, the sun drops straight into the sea with no land in the way — unlike many beach towns on the Gulf of Thailand where the sun sets behind hills. Khao Phra Tamnak (Pratumnak Hill), the low rise that separates South Pattaya Beach from Jomtien, has become the prime spot for viewpoints, clifftop dinners, and rooftop bars, looking down over the curve of the bay and a wide horizon. The golden hour — roughly 30–60 minutes before the sun sets — is the prettiest window.
Sunset times
In Pattaya the sun sets around 6:00–6:30 PM for most of the year (a touch later from the rainy season through year's end). Plan to reach your viewpoint or your seaside table about 45–60 minutes before that, so you catch both the golden light and the colour-shifting sky after the sun slips below the horizon.
Book the activities in your Pattaya trip ahead
Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want — prices and availability are shown live on each site.
A 2-day, 1-night plan for couples
Check in → Pratumnak sunset → clifftop dinner

Pattaya rooftop bars for couples (sunset views)
Almost all of Pattaya's rooftops sit on top of hotels — the differences come down to height, which way they face for the sunset, and how private they feel. We've picked these for couples' atmosphere and sea views. The one thing worth doing everywhere is to book a table ahead, especially the outer terrace-edge spots on weekends, because good-view seats are limited.
Horizon Rooftop Restaurant & Bar
On the 34th floor of the Hilton Pattaya, the highest in the central Pattaya area, looking straight down over the curve of Pattaya Bay. Dim lighting, a romantic mood, and a Sunset Happy Hour with buy-one-get-one-free roughly 5:00–7:00 PM. Book the outer section ahead.
The Sky 32 (Grand Centre Point)
A 32nd-floor rooftop with 360-degree views over Pattaya Bay — you catch the sunset on the sea side and the city lights on the other. Open both morning and evening, good for a drink in the breeze before nightfall.
The Roof Sky Bar (Siam@Siam Design Hotel)
24th floor with sea views all around and a chic design-hotel feel. Good-quality drinks and food, suited to couples who like a cool mood more than something formal and plush.
I Sea Sky (Veranda Resort Jomtien)
A rooftop on the Jomtien side, floors 4–5, with a panoramic sea view and both indoor and outdoor sections. Serves fusion and seafood, and it's quieter and more private than central Pattaya.
D.I.B Sky Bar (D Varee Jomtien Beach)
A sky bar on the 38th floor above Jomtien Beach with 360-degree sea views, facing the sunset head-on. It's the highest point on the Jomtien side — great for couple photos and a cocktail in the breeze.
Over The Moon Sky Lounge (Ana Anan Resort)
An 8th-floor lounge on the South Pattaya side, quiet and romantic, with Thai and Western food. A good fit for couples who want to sit somewhere calm and unhurried.
Sunset Lounge Rooftop (Baraquda Pattaya)
A 6th-floor rooftop in the middle of Pattaya — compact but with a nice atmosphere, and you can catch the sunset. Easy to reach if you're staying in the central area.
Virgin Rooftop Pattaya (Pattaya Sea View)
A beach-bar-style rooftop on the 9th floor in central Pattaya, with a relaxed feel and a sunset view. The menu leans a bit more premium. Open 4:00 PM–midnight.
An honest note on prices
The prices listed are estimates and shift with the season, long holidays, and each venue's promotions. Rooftops at big-brand hotels run quite a bit pricier than ordinary seaside spots. To keep to a budget, go during Happy Hour, or order just drinks for the sunset and then eat your main meal at a more wallet-friendly beachside place — that works well too.
Seaside and clifftop dinners couples love
The Sky Gallery
A restaurant on a cliff over the sea in front of Cosy Beach, Pratumnak Hill, with a full view of Pattaya Bay. Thai, seafood, and Western dishes, averaging around THB 250–500/person. Book a terrace-edge table in the evening and on weekends.
Rimpa Lapin
A long-running clifftop restaurant on the Jomtien side with a wide sea view, known for its big prawns and seafood. Open from afternoon into the evening and busy around sunset — call to check before you go.
Glass House Boho (Jomtien)
A beach-house-style spot on Jomtien Beach with both an air-conditioned section and one right by the sand. Good for relaxing in the breeze and couple photos in the early evening.
Jomtien beachside seafood
All along Jomtien Beach there are seafood places with tables set on the sand, at friendly prices. Good for an easy meal — pick the ones where the catch is fresh and plenty of locals are sitting.
Doing Pattaya sensibly (especially as a couple)
Pattaya has nightlife districts like Walking Street that are lively and have a charm of their own, but they're areas to explore with care. If you want to swing by and soak up the atmosphere, that's fine — just keep your wits about you when it comes to spending and valuables. Our relaxed couples' plan sticks mainly to the Pratumnak–Jomtien side, which is quieter and safer for walking around at night.
- Keep valuables tucked away — the nightlife districts get crowded, so watch your bag and phone, and don't leave things on the table when you get up.
- Check your bill carefully — some bars in tourist areas have hidden service or drink charges, so ask the price before you order to be sure.
- Check the weather before Koh Larn — on windy days the waves are high, the boat rocks hard, and some sailings are cancelled. Pick a clear day and go on a morning run for a calmer ride.
- Use a ride-hailing app — take a Grab/Bolt, or a songthaew with a price agreed up front, to avoid fares blowing up at night.
- Drink in moderation — especially if you're driving yourself or have rented a motorbike. There are checkpoints here and there, and the beach road gets heavy traffic.
An honest note on seasons and holidays
Room and tour prices in Pattaya climb clearly over long holidays and the high season (Nov–Feb), since people from Bangkok can drive over easily. If you want a sea-view room at a good price, book ahead and avoid public holidays. In the rainy season (May–Oct), rain tends to fall in the afternoon and evening and can hide the sunset on some days, so have a backup plan ready — a rooftop with an indoor section.
