Pattaya for Photographers
2 Days, Every Angle Covered

Pattaya isn't just beaches and nightlife. If you're into photography, this city has a fully wood-carved temple at the Sanctuary of Truth, the sweeping curve of Pattaya Bay seen from Pratamnak Hill, the 3D illusion museum Art in Paradise, and a giant Buddha image carved into a cliff at Khao Chi Chan. We've laid this out as a 2-day plan built around the actual light and opening hours, so you get the good shots without doubling back across town.

The whole point of a photo trip comes down to light and opening hours. Outdoor spots like the Sanctuary of Truth and Khao Chi Chan shoot best in the morning or late afternoon, while the Pratamnak viewpoint is at its best around sunset when the city lights come on. Art in Paradise is indoors and works any time of day, so it's the one to save for harsh midday sun or a rainy spell. This plan lines each spot up with its best light.

You'll really want a car for this one, because the main photo spots are spread out in different directions — from the Sanctuary of Truth up north, down through the city center, all the way to Khao Chi Chan in the south, about 25–30 km out. If you're not driving yourself, hiring a car with a driver for the day or chartering a songthaew works out better than flagging a taxi for each stop.

Day 1 — From the Sanctuary of Truth to the Pratamnak viewpoint at sunset

Start the first day with the trip's biggest highlight in the morning, then work your way down into the city, finishing with the Pattaya Bay view in the best evening light.

Day 1

Wood carving + Pattaya Bay views

08:30
The Sanctuary of TruthAn entirely wood-carved temple on the waterfront at Laem Ratchawet. Go early for soft light and thin crowds. Adult tickets are around 450 THB, children 250 THB, with guided tours running on a schedule. Open 08:00–18:00 daily — leave at least 1.5–2 hours to walk around and shoot.
11:00
Lunch in the Naklua areaBefore heading back into town, stop for seafood or a made-to-order restaurant around Naklua, which is close to the Sanctuary. Prices are friendlier here than along the central beach zone.
13:30
Pattaya Floating Market (Four Regions)A large old-wood floating market with bridges, traditional houses and shop corners for that vintage Thai look. The afternoon sun is strong, but there's shade inside the market to walk and shoot. There's an entry fee for the market zone — double-check it on the day, as it changes from time to time.
16:30
Pratamnak Hill viewpoint + Pattaya City signThe best spot in town to shoot the sweeping curve of Pattaya Bay, just a few minutes' drive up the hill. Weekdays it's open 09:00–17:00; on weekends and public holidays it stays open longer, 06:00–22:00. Come before sunset to catch both the golden light and the city lights coming on.
18:30
Dinner + a stroll along the beachCome down off the hill for dinner around South Pattaya or along the beachfront road, and close out the day shooting the city lights reflecting on the water.

What to wear at the Sanctuary of Truth

It's a semi-religious site, so dress modestly — skip spaghetti straps or very short shorts. There are usually cover-up wraps to borrow at the entrance. It's also a seaside wood structure under ongoing restoration, so some angles may have scaffolding — just pick your shots to work around it.

Day 2 — Art in Paradise and the carved Buddha at Khao Chi Chan

Day two switches up the rhythm: start indoors with the 3D art in the morning while the sun is still mild, then head south in the afternoon to shoot the cliff-carved Buddha when the light comes in at a nice angle.

Day 2

3D art + cliff-face landmark

09:30
Art in Paradise Pattaya (3D illusion museum)On Pattaya 2nd Road, with over 150 3D paintings to pose with. Open daily 09:00–21:00. Ticket prices differ for Thai/foreign visitors and are scaled by height; kids under 100 cm usually get in free. Booking online ahead is cheaper than buying at the door. Allow about 1.5–2 hours to play around and shoot.
12:00
Lunch + a break through the midday heatUse the hottest part of the day to rest in an air-conditioned spot before heading south to Khao Chi Chan.
14:30
Khao Chi Chan (cliff-carved Buddha)Out in Sattahip district, about 25–30 km from Pattaya city. It's a giant Buddha image inlaid with gold line-work on a huge rock cliff. Free to enter, open roughly 06:00–18:00. The wide plaza is great for shooting up at the cliff, and in the late afternoon the light hits the face at just the right angle.
16:00
Nong Nooch Garden (optional, if you've still got the energy)It's on the same route as Khao Chi Chan, with symmetrical landscaped gardens, a dinosaur zone and plenty of photo corners. There's an entry fee — a good add-on if you've got time left in the evening.
18:00
Back into town for the last set of shotsOn the way back, swing by the Pattaya City sign at Bali Hai Pier again to catch the boats and the elevated view near dusk — handy if you didn't get the angle you wanted the day before.

The best light at each spot

  • Sanctuary of Truth — morning 08:30–10:30 for soft light, thin crowds and warm-toned wood; or late afternoon to dodge the midday sun.
  • Pratamnak Hill viewpoint — from just before sunset to about 30 minutes after, for both golden light and city lights (note: it closes at 17:00 on weekdays, so go on a weekend if you want to stay into the evening).
  • Art in Paradise — indoor, so any time of day; best value when you go during harsh sun or rain.
  • Khao Chi Chan — late afternoon 15:00–17:00, when the light hits the cliff at an angle; avoid midday when you're shooting into the light.
  • Pattaya City sign at Bali Hai — morning or near dusk; avoid midday, when the sun flattens the shot.

What to prep and pack

Health

Sun and heat

Several spots are outdoors — bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and water. The midday sun in Pattaya is genuinely strong and hot.

Gear

Lenses and gear

A wide-angle lens helps you fit in the whole temple and the bay view. Bring a lens cloth, since the sea breeze deposits salt spray easily. If you're shooting city lights at night, a small tripod helps a lot.

Save

Book tickets ahead

For the Sanctuary of Truth, Art in Paradise and Nong Nooch, booking online through Klook or a tour platform is often cheaper than buying at the door — and you skip the ticket line.

Enjoy the nightlife with your wits about you

Pattaya has a lively nightlife district. If you head out to shoot the city lights or wander in the evening, keep a close eye on your valuables and camera, don't set your bag down out of reach, avoid quiet alleys alone late at night, and agree on prices for any service clearly before you use it.

Want to extend the trip to Koh Larn?

If you have a third day and want clear turquoise water in your shots, Koh Larn is just a 40–45 minute boat ride from Bali Hai Pier. But always check the weather first — when the wind and swell pick up or during the monsoon, boats may stop running or be a rough, rocky ride that's hard to shoot from. Check the forecast and ask at the pier on the day before you commit.

FAQ

Do I need a car for this Pattaya photo itinerary?

You'll want one. The Sanctuary of Truth is up north, while Khao Chi Chan and Nong Nooch are 25–30 km south. If you're not driving yourself, hiring a car with a driver for the day or chartering a songthaew is more economical and convenient than flagging a taxi for each stop.

How much is a ticket to the Sanctuary of Truth, and what are the hours?

Standard daytime tickets are around 450 THB for adults and 250 THB for children, open 08:00–18:00 daily with scheduled guided tours. There's a pricier evening session too. We'd suggest the morning for the best light and thinner crowds. Prices can change, so double-check on site or on a booking platform.

When's the best time to visit the Pratamnak Hill viewpoint?

It's best from just before sunset to about half an hour after, when you get both the golden light and the city lights. But it closes at 17:00 on weekdays, so if you want to stay into the evening, go on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, when it's open until 22:00.

Is Art in Paradise Pattaya good for a rainy day?

Very much so — it's an indoor 3D illusion museum, so you can shoot all day without worrying about sun or rain. Open 09:00–21:00 daily on Pattaya 2nd Road. Booking tickets online ahead is cheaper than buying at the door.

Is there an entry fee for Khao Chi Chan?

No, it's free to enter, open roughly 06:00–18:00. It's in Sattahip district, about 25–30 km from Pattaya city — a Buddha image carved in line-work on a huge rock cliff. It shoots well from below in the late afternoon, when the light comes in at an angle across the cliff.
