This plan suits anyone staying in Phang Nga town, or coming over from Phuket or Krabi for a day trip to the bay. Most trips start at Surakul Pier (Ban Krasom Pier), about 8–10 km from Phang Nga town. Turn onto Highway 4144 toward Ao Phang Nga National Park — it's roughly a 20-minute drive from town.
You have two options. Charter your own longtail boat at the pier (boats for 2–6 people start around 1,000 THB; 7–12 people around 1,500 THB) if you'd rather set your own pace. Or book a join-in tour with a guide, lunch, and canoe gear included (from around 1,200–1,500 THB per person), which works better for solo travelers or couples who don't want to charter a whole boat. All prices are rough estimates — double-check with the pier or operator before you go.
Set off and board the boat
Tham Lot, Khao Phing Kan & Khao Tapu
About the tides
Tham Lot and a few other spots are only accessible at low tide. Ask the pier when the tide rises and falls on your day, then order your stops around it so you don't miss the cave.
Canoeing & Koh Panyee
Cruise back & a viewpoint stop
What to pack
- Clothing — comfortable, quick-drying gear; bring a windbreaker or towel in case you get wet canoeing
- Footwear — heel-strap sandals or rubber shoes that can get wet make getting on and off the boat and walking around Koh Panyee easier
- Sun protection — hat, sunglasses, sunscreen; out in the bay the sun is strong and there's no shade
- Cash — the park fee, the viewpoint truck fare, and many shops on Koh Panyee take cash only
- Waterproofing — a waterproof phone pouch or dry bag, in case of spray and while canoeing
Book the activities in your Phang Nga trip ahead
Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want — prices and availability are shown live on each site.
Tweak the plan to your style
With kids or older travelers
Pick a larger boat or ferry instead of a speedboat — steadier and easier to get on and off. Drop the canoeing leg if it's not convenient.
For photographers
Set off as early as possible to catch soft light and beat the crowds, then finish at Samet Nangshe in the evening for golden hour.
Coming from Phuket or Krabi
Tours offer hotel pickup and drop-off from Phuket and Krabi — add about 1 to 1.5 hours of driving each way. Leave early to make the boat departure.
Book ahead
In high season (Nov–Apr), boats and tours fill up fast, especially on long weekends. Booking or calling ahead at least a day in advance is safer than chancing it at the pier.
