Phang Nga & Phuket
3-Day Bay Cruise & Island Hop

Phang Nga and Phuket share a border you can cross in under an hour by car, so combining both provinces in one trip is completely doable. This plan has you fly into Phuket Airport, use Phuket as a base to cruise Phang Nga Bay, see Ko Tapu (James Bond Island), catch the sunrise at Samet Nangshe, then ferry over to Koh Yao Noi for a quieter taste of the Andaman. Everything here — piers, ferry schedules, prices — was verified before we wrote it.

Phang Nga & Phuket 3-Day Bay Cruise & Island Hop

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

The appeal of pairing Phang Nga with Phuket is that you get two completely different moods in one trip. Phuket has the international airport, hotels at every price point, and restaurants open late. Phang Nga delivers limestone karsts rising from the sea, cave kayaking, and islands that still feel relatively uncrowded. This 3-day, 2-night plan is routed so the journey flows forward — no backtracking. If you only have 2 days, simply drop the Koh Yao Noi leg.

Route Overview & Getting Around

Phuket Airport sits at the northern end of the island, just a short drive from Sarasin Bridge, which connects Phuket to Phang Nga province. Basing yourself in northern Phuket (Thalang or near the airport) makes the next morning departure to Phang Nga Bay straightforward. Most bay cruises depart from Ao Po Pier on Phuket's northeast coast, while ferries to Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai leave from Bang Rong Pier nearby.

  • Airport → northern Phuket accommodation — taxi or hotel transfer, roughly 20–40 min
  • Phang Nga Bay cruise — tour pickup at your hotel; board at Ao Po Pier around 09:00
  • Samet Nangshe — on the Phang Nga side (Takua Thung district); drive across Sarasin Bridge from north Phuket, about 45–60 min
  • Koh Yao Noi — speedboat from Bang Rong Pier, 30–40 min; local ferry is a little slower

Where to base yourself

If you'd rather not change hotels often, stay in northern Phuket for 2 nights and do both Samet Nangshe and the bay cruise as day trips. But if you want the real island-quiet experience, it's worth packing your bag one more time and spending the last night on Koh Yao Noi — the ferry crossing alone is worth it.

Evening
Stroll Nai Yang or Bang Tao Beach, catch the sunsetNai Yang sits right at the airport threshold — you can watch planes glide in overhead, which a surprising number of people find genuinely satisfying
Night
Seafood dinner around Bang Tao or CherngtalayBeachside seafood spots here stay open late and are easier on the wallet than Patong

Keep Day 1 easy — you'll be up early tomorrow for the boat. Use the evening to pack your dry bag: swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, and water shoes you don't mind getting soaked. Day 2 means sea kayaking into caves.

Day 2 — Full-Day Phang Nga Bay Cruise & Cave Kayaking

Prices & park fees

Phang Nga Bay tours from Phuket in 2026 start at roughly THB 1,400–1,500 per person (longtail, large boat, or speedboat), typically including hotel pickup, lunch, and equipment. Some operators do not include the Ao Phang Nga National Park entrance fee — that gets paid in cash on the day. Check before you book.

Day 3 — Samet Nangshe Sunrise, Then Koh Yao Noi

The last day starts well before sunrise. The Samet Nangshe viewpoint delivers one of the most photographed morning scenes in southern Thailand — limestone peaks poking through a sea of mist above Phang Nga Bay. Locals are genuinely proud of it. After that, you swing back to catch a ferry to Koh Yao Noi for a slow, quiet finish to the trip.

Day 3

Sunrise viewpoint + island crossing

04:30–05:00
Leave your hotel for Samet Nangshe (Takua Thung district, Phang Nga)You need to leave this early to catch the light. Check out and bring your luggage — you won't be returning to this hotel
05:30–06:00
Arrive at the base, take the local shuttle up to the viewpointYou cannot drive to the top yourself — a local vehicle runs up and down, around THB 90 per person. The road is steep and narrow
06:00–08:00
Watch the sunrise, mist, and panoramic karst viewsMultiple platforms and packages available; some include coffee and breakfast for around THB 500. Clearest skies — and best mist — are dry season (Nov–Apr)
Mid-morning
Descend and drive back to Bang Rong Pier, PhuketReturn your rental car at the pier or use the pier parking lot, then board the ferry
Noon–Afternoon
Ferry from Bang Rong Pier to Koh Yao NoiSpeedboat takes 30–40 min, starting around THB 400 per way. Several departures mid-morning through afternoon
Afternoon–Evening
Check in, rent a bicycle, ride past rice fields and the waterfrontKoh Yao Noi is genuinely quiet — no clubs, no bar strip. The appeal is the fishing-village pace, easy beaches, and the view back toward Phang Nga Bay

Only have 2 days?

Drop the Koh Yao Noi overnight. On Day 3, do the Samet Nangshe sunrise then head straight to Phuket Airport — it's about an hour, which works for an afternoon or evening flight. If you have 4 days, add snorkelling around Koh Yao Noi or a longtail day trip to Hong Island.

Trip Variations by Travel Style

Photographers

Photography-focused

Dedicate the full morning to Samet Nangshe and choose a longtail boat for the bay cruise — you get closer to the caves and the limestone reflections on the water are better without a speedboat's wake.

Relaxed pace

Slow travel

Cut the full-day tour to a half-day 'Lazy James Bond' option, then add a second night on Koh Yao Noi. Cycle, get a massage, eat seafood quietly — that's the whole agenda.

Families

Families with kids

Book a large boat with onboard toilets. Kids can kayak with a guide doing the paddling. For the island stay, Koh Yao Yai has wider, shallower beaches that are easier for young children to swim.

Best Time to Go & Things to Know Before You Leave

  • Best season — Nov–Apr: calm seas, clear skies, and the best chance of morning mist at Samet Nangshe. May–Oct is monsoon season — strong swells and some days when boats simply don't run.
  • Book ahead — Bay tours and Koh Yao accommodation fill up fast in high season. Book 1–2 weeks out.
  • Carry cash — The Ao Phang Nga National Park entrance fee and the Samet Nangshe shuttle are cash-only. Bring small bills.
  • Sun & slip protection — The sea sun is strong. Hat, sunglasses, reef-safe SPF, and water shoes for boarding and kayaking are practical necessities, not optional extras.

FAQ

Can you visit both Phang Nga and Phuket in one trip?

Easily. The two provinces share a border connected by Sarasin Bridge — roughly an hour's drive. The standard approach is to fly into Phuket and use it as a base for Phang Nga Bay day trips, the Samet Nangshe sunrise, and the Koh Yao Noi ferry crossing.

Which pier do you use for a Phang Nga Bay tour from Phuket?

Most tours from Phuket depart from Ao Po Pier on the island's northeast coast, leaving around 09:00 after hotel pickups between 07:00 and 07:30. Ferries to Koh Yao Noi leave from Bang Rong Pier nearby.

How much does a Phang Nga Bay tour cost in 2026?

Prices start around THB 1,400–1,500 per person for longtail, large boat, or speedboat options. That usually covers hotel pickup, lunch, and equipment. Some operators charge the Ao Phang Nga National Park entrance fee separately — paid in cash on arrival. Always check what's included before booking.

What do I need to prepare for the Samet Nangshe sunrise?

Leave your hotel around 04:30–05:00 to arrive in time for the light. At the base, a local shuttle takes you to the top — around THB 90 per person; the road is too steep and narrow for private cars. Some packages include coffee and breakfast for around THB 500. Best conditions — clearest skies and best mist — are dry season, Nov–Apr.

How long does it take to get from Phuket to Koh Yao Noi?

About 30–40 minutes by speedboat from Bang Rong Pier, starting at roughly THB 400 per way. There are several departures mid-morning through afternoon. Koh Yao Noi is a quiet island — fishing-village atmosphere, low-key beaches, no nightlife. A good place to wind the trip down.
