Phichit isn't a town most people plan a multi-day trip around, but once you're actually here you realize there's more to it than you'd expect. The town has the Krai Thong–Chalawan legend as its signature, old temples along the Nan River that locals hold dear, the GI-certified Tha Khoi pomelo it's known for, and Bueng Si Fai, a large freshwater lake right in the middle of town. Three days and two nights is just enough to take it slow. We've grouped the spots that sit close together into the same day so you're not driving back and forth.
The 3-day, 2-night plan at a glance
- Day 1 — In town: Wat Tha Luang to pay respects to Luang Pho Phet, a walk through the riverside market, and an evening at a cafe and a fish restaurant on the Nan River.
- Day 2 — History and legend: Phichit Old City Park, Wat Mahathat, Chalawan Cave, an afternoon stop at Wat Pho Prathap Chang, and the old Wang Krot market in the evening.
- Day 3 — Pomelo orchards and Bueng Si Fai: taste Tha Khoi pomelo at the orchard, walk or cycle around Bueng Si Fai, and wrap up the trip at a lakeside cafe before heading home.
Getting to Phichit
Phichit is on the northern rail line (Phichit station is right in the town center), and buses from Bangkok take roughly 4–5 hours. But the sights are spread a little outside town, so driving your own car or renting one is the most flexible option. The pomelo orchards and some temples are in different districts from one another.
Book the activities in your Phichit trip ahead
Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want — prices and availability are shown live on each site.
Day 1 — In town, Wat Tha Luang and the Nan riverside
Take the first day easy, no rush. Cover the spots within the town municipality that sit close together — you can walk between several of them. Start at the town's main riverside temple, then work your way toward the market and the riverside in the evening.

About Luang Pho Phet
If you visit Wat Tha Luang, dress modestly and check the opening hours of the Luang Pho Phet shrine first, since it closes for a midday break at certain times. Mornings are quieter, so it's easier to pay your respects then.
Day 2 — Old City Park, the Chalawan legend and Wat Pho Prathap Chang
Day two leans into history and legend. Phichit Old City Park is about 7 kilometers from town, on the site of old Phichit, believed to have been founded in the era of Phraya Kotrabong. Inside you'll find the city pillar shrine, Wat Mahathat, and Chalawan Cave, tied to the literary tale of Krai Thong. In the afternoon, continue to Wat Pho Prathap Chang, an old Ayutthaya-era temple in another district.

Check the market hours first
Old Wang Krot market and many community markets in Phichit are only busy on certain days (usually weekends). If your Day 2 falls on a weekday, check the market's page first, or swap the order of your days to line up with when the market is open.
Day 3 — Tha Khoi pomelo orchards and Bueng Si Fai
On the last day, collect Phichit's two biggest highlights. Tha Khoi pomelo is a heritage variety first grown at Ban Tha Khoi in Mueang Kao subdistrict more than a hundred years ago, now GI-certified, with fine shrimp-like flesh, juicy and sweet-tart. The harvest season runs roughly October to April. Close the trip at Bueng Si Fai, a large freshwater lake in the middle of town where Phichit locals come for an evening stroll.

Pomelo season
Tha Khoi pomelo produces from October to April. If you come off-season, there may not be fresh pomelo to taste at the orchard, but you can still find it at souvenir shops or markets in town. If you want the best fruit straight from the orchard, planning your trip for late in the year through early the next year works best.
Tweak the plan to your style
Only have 2 days
Drop the Pho Prathap Chang / Wang Krot day, fold the pomelo orchards and Bueng Si Fai into Day 1, and keep the Old City and Wat Tha Luang as your core.
Temple-focused
Add Wat Khao Rup Chang on a hill with town views, after Wat Tha Luang and Wat Pho Prathap Chang, to round out the old temples.
Traveling with family
Focus on Bueng Si Fai for cycling and feeding the fish, plus the pomelo orchards where the kids can taste fruit. Ease up on the temples a bit.
Rough budget per person
- 2 nights' lodging — hotels/guesthouses in Phichit town run about ฿500–1,200/night.
- Food — about ฿50–150 per meal at local spots; Nan River fish can run a bit higher if you order several dishes.
- Entry fees — Bueng Si Fai and most temples are free; the Old City Park has no entry fee.
- Pomelo + souvenirs — budget around ฿200–500 for Tha Khoi pomelo and gifts to take home.
- Transport — if you drive yourself, factor in fuel; if you don't have a car, budget for taxis or a rental in town.
