Phichit Cafe-Hopping
+ Nan Riverside Walks: 2 Days, 1 Night

Phichit is a small town built for slowing down. The Nan River runs right through the middle, Bueng Si Fai lake gives you somewhere to catch the evening breeze, and a wave of new-generation cafes has opened here over the past few years. This plan is made for coffee people and slow walkers in particular: 2 days and 1 night, no rush, hitting cafes that are actually open right now and pairing them with riverside time when the light is at its best.

Phichit Cafe-Hopping + Nan Riverside Walks: 2 Days, 1 Night

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

Phichit isn't a place where you race to tick off every sight. What it does well is slow and quiet. The town is small enough that driving from one corner to another takes only a few minutes, which makes it ideal for a plan built around lingering in cafes and then heading out for the evening breeze along the Nan River. We set the route to follow the light: cafes in the late morning, riverside from late afternoon into sunset.

This plan assumes you have your own car or a rented motorbike, since a couple of the cafes sit just outside the town center. But the main walking spots — Bueng Si Fai and Wat Tha Luang — are close together, so you can loop around them easily.

Day 1 — In-town cafes + evening at Bueng Si Fai

Day 1

Wake up easy, sip some coffee, then catch the sunset at Bueng Si Fai

09:30
Start the morning at a.dept coffee RoasterA coffee shop across from Phichit Hospital that roasts its own beans, with both an espresso bar and a slow bar. The air-con is cold and you can sit for a long while. Open 07:30–16:30, drinks from around 55 THB. The orders people go for most are the Dirty and the latte; for sweets there's banoffee and cheesecake.
11:00
Move on to the minimal-style So Good CafeA white, minimal cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating, and a warm feel. Good for photos and for carrying on with some work. If you'd rather sit surrounded by greenery, try Makesense instead — loft-style decor with both indoor and outdoor corners.
12:30
Lunch in townPhichit is known for old-school noodle shops and made-to-order food by the river. Pick somewhere in the town center that's open at midday and keep it on the lighter side, since there are still cafes and desserts waiting in the afternoon.
14:00
Cool off at Black Ground Cafe & DiningA cafe with handsome design inside and out, serving drinks, sweets, and mains. The afternoon sun is strong, so ducking in here for a while is just right.
16:30
Walk around Bueng Si Fai + Somdet Phra Sri Nakharin ParkA large freshwater lake in the middle of the province, about 1 km from the provincial hall. A boardwalk reaches out over the water for close-up views, and there's the Saranjit cycling path of more than 10 km — walk or ride it to catch the cool breeze.
18:00
Watch the sunset over the lakeThe prettiest light is in the late evening near dusk, when it lays gold across the water's surface. There are photo spots around the lake and a statue of Phaya Chalawan to swing by.
19:00
Dinner in townHead back into town for dinner. Phichit has both mookata (Thai BBQ) and riverside restaurants to choose from. An easy way to close out the day.

Tip

Many cafes in Phichit close from late afternoon into the early evening. If you want to hit several in one day, start before 10am and work through them one by one. Don't save them all for the evening, or you may find them already shut.

🎟️

Book the activities in your Phichit trip ahead

Booking online ahead on Klook or GetYourGuide is usually cheaper than the gate and skips the queue. Pick only the experiences you actually want — prices and availability are shown live on each site.

Day 2 — Along the Nan River + one last cafe

Day 2

Pay respects by the river, walk slowly, then grab a cafe before heading home

08:30
Morning cup at Chamcha CafeA buzzy newcomer, shaded by trees, with a little waterfall corner and a bridge spot for photos. Sit with your coffee for a while and ease into the morning before it gets hot.
10:00
Pay respects to Luang Pho Phet at Wat Tha LuangA royal temple on the Nan River, on Butsaba Road in town, built in 1845. It enshrines Luang Pho Phet, a Chiang Saen–style Buddha image that is Phichit's guardian image. The front of the temple sits right on the Nan River.
11:00
Stroll along the Nan River in front of the templeThe riverside stretch in front of Wat Tha Luang is where the traditional long-boat races are held in early September each year. Come during that time and it's especially lively; on an ordinary day you can walk quietly and enjoy the breeze.
12:30
Riverside lunchFind a restaurant along the Nan River in town, order river fish or made-to-order dishes, and watch the water flow by before you set off in the afternoon.
14:00
A final cafe before heading homeIf your route home passes through Bang Mun Nak, stop at Lemonarch Cafe — a wooden house surrounded by trees serving coffee, pasta, and pizza, open 07:15–19:00 daily. Or, if you want to try a newly opened cafe in town, give KANVELA a go for its rustic atmosphere.

Straight talk

Small-town cafes change fast. Some may shift their opening hours or close on weekdays. Before you set off, check the shop's page again — especially for the ones outside town — so you don't make the trip for nothing.

When the riverside looks best

  • Late evening near dusk (16:30–18:30) — soft light and a cool breeze; this is when Bueng Si Fai and the Nan River look their best, great for walking and photos.
  • Early morning (07:00–09:00) — not yet hot, few people around; good for cycling around the lake or quietly paying respects at the temple.
  • Avoid midday to early afternoon — strong sun and heat. This is the time to move into a cafe and get out of the sun.
  • Early September — the traditional long-boat races on the Nan River in front of Wat Tha Luang. Especially lively, but crowded, with tight parking.

Where to stay and getting around

Phichit is a small town and easy to get around in, but public transport within the province is limited. We'd suggest having your own car or renting a motorbike, since some cafes sit outside the town center. The main walking spots — Bueng Si Fai and Wat Tha Luang — are close to the center, within a 5–10 minute loop of each other.

Most convenient

Stay in Phichit town

Pick a place near Bueng Si Fai or close to the in-town market, so you can wake up and walk the riverside or find a cafe without a long drive.

Getting there

Getting to Phichit

The northern railway line passes through Phichit station, and there are coaches from Bangkok. If you drive yourself, parking is easy — well suited to a cafe-hopping plan that means moving between several spots.

FAQ

Which Phichit cafe has the best coffee?

If coffee is your main concern, a.dept coffee Roaster is the one Phichit locals bring up most, because it roasts its own beans and has both an espresso and a slow bar. Open 07:30–16:30, drinks from around 55 THB, across from Phichit Hospital.

Where can you walk along the Nan River in Phichit?

The main walking spots are the Nan riverside in front of Wat Tha Luang in town, and Somdet Phra Sri Nakharin Park at Bueng Si Fai, which has a boardwalk over the lake and a cycling path of more than 10 km. The view is best in the late evening near dusk.

How many days do you need for a cafe trip to Phichit?

2 days and 1 night is just right, since the town is small. You can sit in several cafes without rushing and pair it with riverside walks in the evening. With only a single day, you can still hit 2–3 in-town cafes plus Bueng Si Fai in the evening.

Do you need your own car for a cafe trip to Phichit?

We'd recommend it, because public transport within the province is limited and some cafes sit outside the town center. If you don't have a car, you can rent a motorbike in town — that's more nimble than relying on public transport.

What time of year is best for the Phichit riverside?

Late rainy season into early cool season has comfortable weather, and walking the riverside is a pleasure. If you want a lively atmosphere, come in early September for the traditional long-boat races on the Nan River in front of Wat Tha Luang — but it's crowded then, with tight parking.
