Phichit to Kamphaeng Phet, 2 Days 1 Night
From the Crocodile City to a World Heritage Site

Phichit and Kamphaeng Phet sit closer together than most people realize. Drive about 90–100 km along Highway 115 and you're there, which makes it easy to link the two into a short trip. Day one stays in Phichit to pay respects to Luang Pho Phet and stroll around Bueng Si Fai. Day two crosses over to the old town of Kamphaeng Phet, which UNESCO has listed as a World Heritage Site. This is a plan you can actually follow on the ground without wearing yourself out.

Phichit to Kamphaeng Phet, 2 Days 1 Night From the Crocodile City to a World Heritage Site

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

If you're in the upper central plains and want a trip that's close, cheap, and still gives you temples, nature, and World Heritage ruins all at once, the Phichit–Kamphaeng Phet route covers it in two days. The two cities are linked by Highway 115, which the Department of Highways has already widened into a proper main road — an easy drive of about an hour and a half to two hours. We've built the plan around one overnight stay; you can sleep on the Phichit side or cross over to Kamphaeng Phet, whichever suits you.

The 2-Day Route at a Glance

The idea is to spend day one covering the in-town spots in Phichit, then shift over to Kamphaeng Phet on day two so you have plenty of time to walk the historical park. The ruins there are spread out over a wide area with lots of shade, so set aside at least half a day for walking.

  • Day 1 — Phichit Wat Tha Luang (Luang Pho Phet) → Bueng Si Fai → eats around town, then check in
  • Night 1 Stay in Phichit, or drive over and sleep in Kamphaeng Phet if you want an early start on day two
  • Day 2 — Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park (Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Chang Rop) → egg banana treats → Mo Kluai Khai market for souvenirs before heading home

Where to Base Yourself

If you're taking it easy, stay in Phichit the first night and drive over early the next morning — the air is still cool and walking the park is far more comfortable. But if you want to spend the whole morning and afternoon at the park, move over to Kamphaeng Phet from the first night so you cut out the morning drive entirely.

The Connector — Driving Highway 115 from Phichit to Kamphaeng Phet

Should I sleep on the Phichit side or in Kamphaeng Phet?

You can stay on either side. If you want an early start on day two and a long walk through the park, move over to Kamphaeng Phet from the first night to cut out the morning drive. But if you'd rather finish Phichit first, stay there the first night and drive over early — that works just as well.

Why is Kamphaeng Phet a World Heritage city?

UNESCO listed the historic town of Sukhothai and its associated towns, including Kamphaeng Phet, as a World Heritage Site. It's a group of old Sukhothai-era cities where you can still see the city layout, laterite walls, and major ruins like Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Chang Rop intact.

What's the best season to visit these two cities?

Late rainy season into the cool season (October–February) has the nicest weather for walking the park. If you want to see the Khlong Lan waterfalls at full flow, aim for late in the rainy season. September is also when Kamphaeng Phet holds its egg banana festival, worth working into the trip.
