Prachinburi With Kids
2 Days, 1 Night

Prachinburi is one of the easiest places to take kids in Thailand. It's only a bit over an hour from Bangkok, the sights are clustered close together, and there's a mix of shallow waterfalls kids can splash in, a relaxed herb garden to stroll through, and a dinosaur park they'll love. We've laid out a 2-day, 1-night plan that isn't packed too tight, with time built in for kids to rest and take an afternoon nap.

If you want to get the kids out for some fresh air without a long drive, Prachinburi hits the sweet spot. For families, the standout is Khao Ito waterfall, where the water is shallow and gentle enough for kids to play in, and the nature spots and learning-focused sights all sit within a few kilometers of each other. This plan starts the morning at an easy pace, leaves time to rest in the afternoon, and avoids long walks for families with little ones.

Before You Go — When to Visit and How to Get There

The best time to bring kids for the waterfall is late rainy season into early cool season (September–December), when there's plenty of water but it isn't rushing. In the hot season the flow drops and some spots are left with just shallow pools. If you go during heavy rains, check the waterfall conditions first, since flash floods can come on fast.

  • From Bangkok — about 1.5–2 hours via the motorway / Route 304. The main sights are on the Khao Ito side of Mueang district.
  • Pack for the kids — a change of clothes, towels, grippy water shoes for walking on the slippery waterfall rocks, hats and insect repellent.
  • A private car is easiest — the sights are spread out beyond the town center and public transport barely reaches them, so driving yourself is the way to go with kids.

Tip for Little Kids

Start at the waterfall mid-morning before the sun gets harsh, then save the indoor stops, like the herb garden or a museum, for the afternoon when the kids start to flag. It helps keep the meltdowns away mid-trip.

Day one focuses on outdoor activities while the kids still have energy. Khao Ito waterfall is where local families come to splash around on weekends because the water is shallow and it's close to the parking area. The dinosaur park is a bonus that nearly every kid enjoys, and it's free to enter.

About the Waterfall

In the dry season Khao Ito waterfall shrinks a lot, leaving just small pools. If you're set on plenty of water play, late rainy season into early cool season is the better bet. Keep an eye on the kids up close, since the waterfall rocks are slippery.

Day two is designed to be lighter than the first, since kids are usually tired from the water play the day before. The activities are about strolling in the shade and indoors, with no long walks or sun. The herb garden and the Abhaibhubejhr building are in the same area, just a few minutes' drive apart, so you don't lose time getting between them.

Backup Spots If You Have Extra Time

Night water play

Than Thip Waterfall, Bridge 2

In Prachantakham district, the draw here is that it's lit up at night so you can play in the water after dark, an unusual atmosphere. On weekends it stays open late, great if your family wants to try something different.

Quiet

Takhro Waterfall

In Bu Fai subdistrict, Prachantakham. Genuinely natural, few people and very quiet, with no restaurants nearby. Good for families wanting to escape the crowds, but bring your own food and water.

Camping

Khao Ito Viewpoint & Campground

If your family likes camping, the Khao Ito area has a campground by the reservoir, with mountain views and cool, pleasant air in the morning.

Rough Budget Per Family

  • Entry fees — Khao Ito waterfall, the dinosaur park and the Abhaibhubejhr building are all free. Your main costs are parking and food.
  • National Museum — 30 THB per Thai adult; students in uniform enter free.
  • Accommodation — resorts and hotels in town start from the high hundreds to low thousands of THB per night, depending on the season and room type.
  • Food for 2 days — eating at local spots runs roughly 600–1,000 THB per meal for a family of four.

Saving as a Family

Because many of the main sights are free, Prachinburi can be done on a modest budget. Go on a weekday and accommodation is usually cheaper and the sights less crowded, making it easier to walk around with kids than on a weekend.
