Hua Hin in One Day
Beach – Khao Takiab – Night Market

Hua Hin sits only about 3 hours from Bangkok, which makes it a genuine day trip you don't have to rush. This plan keeps things relaxed: walk Hua Hin Beach in the morning, climb Khao Takiab temple late morning for the sea view, swing by Cicada Market in the evening, then finish at the Hua Hin night market. Everything lines up along the same route, so there's no doubling back. If you have your own car or rent a motorbike, you'll move around easiest.

Hua Hin in One Day Beach – Khao Takiab – Night Market

🔄 Updated 21 Jun 2026

Is one day in Hua Hin enough? It is, as long as you order the route by direction, because Hua Hin Beach, Khao Takiab and the night market each suit a different part of the day. Mornings are best for walking by the sea while the sun is still gentle, late morning is for climbing the hill and paying respects, the afternoon is for a café break, and the markets run from early evening into the night. The plan below assumes you leave Bangkok in the morning, but it works just as well if you're staying overnight in Hua Hin.

Hour-by-hour plan

Day 1

Morning–late morning: Hua Hin Beach + Khao Takiab

08:30
Arrive in Hua Hin and stroll Hua Hin BeachHua Hin Beach runs about 4 km from the town centre toward Khao Takiab. The morning sun is still soft, so it's an easy barefoot walk along the water. If you fancy a beach horse ride, they operate near the beachfront for around 300 THB / 20 min or 400 THB / 30 min (agree on the price before you get on).
09:30
Stop at Hua Hin Railway Station for photos of the Royal Waiting RoomThe old red-and-cream wooden station is the town's classic photo landmark, in the centre just a few minutes from the beach. A quick stop before heading on to Khao Takiab.
10:30
Climb Khao Takiab temple, pay respects and take in the sea viewAt the top stands a large standing Buddha in the 'calming the ocean' pose facing the sea, roughly 16 metres tall, with a wide view over Hua Hin Bay. Watch out for the monkeys — there are a lot of them, so keep bags, food, glasses and snacks well out of sight. No car? A green songthaew can take you up.
12:00
Walk Khao Takiab Beach and find a beachfront seafood spot for lunchKhao Takiab Beach runs about 1.5 km, with whiter sand and clearer water than the town beach. Several beachfront seafood places line it — order prawns, fish and shellfish at market rates, and check the price per kilo before you order so there are no surprises.
Day 1 (continued)

Afternoon–evening: café + Cicada Market + night market

13:30
Escape the heat at a café around Khao Takiab–Hua HinThe afternoon sun is strong, so it's a good time to duck into a café. Hua Hin has plenty of sea-view and garden cafés — rest your legs for an hour or two before the market rounds begin.
16:00
Browse Cicada MarketLocated at Suan Sri, Khao Takiab, it opens only Friday–Saturday–Sunday, roughly 16:00–23:00. The focus is handmade goods, art, clothing and home décor, with a food zone and live music. If you come on a weekday this market is closed, so skip ahead to the night market in town instead.
18:30
Have dinner at the Hua Hin night marketThe night market in the town centre, around Soi Hua Hin 72 / Dechanuchit Road, gets busy in the early evening and runs late. Expect grilled seafood, street food and Thai sweets — the standout is the train-shaped khanom krok with a generous filling, from around 40 THB. Graze your way along and end the day full.
20:30
Walk it off, then head back to your stay / catch a ride to BangkokIf you're doing this as a one-day trip, aim to leave Hua Hin by 21:00 so you reach Bangkok at a reasonable hour. If you're staying over, keep wandering the market at your leisure.

Pacing tip

If you come on a weekday, Cicada Market is closed (open Fri–Sun only). Swap it for an evening at Chatchai Market or a walking street in town instead, and keep the night market for dinner as planned.

Getting there and getting around Hua Hin

  • From Bangkok — minivans/coaches from the Southern Bus Terminal take about 3 hours, or drive yourself via the motorway–Phetkasem highway. Having a car in Hua Hin is handier than relying on public transport around town.
  • Around town — most stops in this plan hug the beach–Khao Takiab line, so renting a motorbike or having your own car is easiest. It's about 5–7 km from the town centre to Khao Takiab.
  • Up to Khao Takiab — green songthaews run up to the temple, handy if you'd rather not walk the steep stretch or don't have a vehicle.
  • Market parking — Cicada Market and the night market both have parking, but it fills fast on Saturdays and Sundays, so leave extra time to find a spot.

Where to stay if you go overnight

If one day doesn't feel like enough, staying overnight in Hua Hin is more fun — you get to wander the evening markets without rushing back, and wake up for another beach walk. The most popular areas are the beachfront in the town centre (walkable to the night market) and the Khao Takiab area (quieter, near Cicada).

In town

Town-centre beachfront

Walkable to the night market and the railway station — good if you don't have a car and want to explore at night.

Southern beachfront

Khao Takiab area

Quiet and calm, near Khao Takiab Beach and Cicada Market — good for a proper rest.
