An old resort town in the north of the province, with Hua Hin Beach, Khao Takiab, the historic Hua Hin railway station, a night market, and beachfront cafes and restaurants to eat and wander all day.
Prachuap town sits on a coastline flanked by three hills that split it into three bays in a row. The hills standing straight up against the sea are the image people picture when they think of Prachuap.
Limestone hills by the sea and the Sam Roi Yot wetlands for birdwatching. There's Phraya Nakhon Cave with an old royal pavilion inside it, and the Khao Daeng viewpoint looking down over the water.
Small hills at the end of Hua Hin Beach with Wat Khao Takiab, plenty of monkeys, and a viewpoint looking back toward the beach. It's the go-to photo spot on the Hua Hin side.
A low hill in the middle of Prachuap town with a stairway up to a chedi at the top. You'll meet monkeys the whole way, and from the top you get a full view of the three bays.
The southernmost district of the province, still quiet, with Ban Krut Beach, Mae Ramphueng Beach, and Koh Talu for diving. It's the stretch of coast that hasn't gotten crowded yet.

Prachuap Khiri Khan's signature food — real local spots, rounded up and ranked
The whole province faces the Gulf. Prachuap mackerel, squid, prawns, shellfish, and fresh blue crab are well known here. Beachfront places in both Hua Hin and Prachuap town cook it every way you can think of.
These waters are mackerel country. Eat it fried, steamed, or in tom yum. The fresh markets have fresh mackerel and salted, sun-dried mackerel to take home.
The night market in the heart of Hua Hin sells grilled seafood, pad thai, fried snacks, and desserts. You can graze stall to stall all night.
Prachuap is one of Thailand's big pineapple-growing areas. The fruit is sweet and juicy, sold fresh, as juice, or simmered down into pineapple jam for gifts.
The northern end, next to Phetchaburi, has palm groves and palm-sugar sweets, including mor kaeng custard, thong yot, and fresh toddy palm fruit in season.
Hua Hin has loads of beachfront and garden cafes, many with beach or hill views. Sit and sip coffee over the sea, easy in the daytime or the evening.
Along Hua Hin and Cha-am beaches there are roti carts, boiled corn, and grilled seafood sold right on the sand, a snack while you stroll the shore.
Besides pineapple jam, there's dried squid, shrimp paste, fish sauce, and other processed seafood from around the town and Bang Saphan to bring home.
